Both pair dungeon combat with gathering and food, but they use that food differently: Dungeon Munchies turns chosen meals into a character build, while Cuisineer sends ingredients from roguelite dungeon runs into cooking and restaurant management. That makes Cuisineer the strongest fit if you want food-themed action and a substantial cooking loop—not a direct replacement for Dungeon Munchies’ meal-based ability system.
What makes a game like Dungeon Munchies?
Its appeal is more specific than simply having food or crafting. You hunt creatures, cook what you find, and choose dishes that affect your abilities and overall play style. Nintendo describes a limit of seven dishes, so deciding what to eat is also a build decision. Parts you do not eat can be crafted into weapons, linking gathered materials to equipment.

PlayStation’s official description characterizes the game as a side-scrolling action RPG focused on hunting creatures, cooking them, and eating dishes to gain abilities. Nintendo’s UK listing describes the seven-dish choice and weapon crafting from animal and plant parts. Those are the useful comparison points: action exploration, food gathered from the world, and a meaningful use for what you collect.

The closest match: Cuisineer
Cuisineer combines food-focused action with roguelite dungeon expeditions. You play Pom, fight monsters, gather ingredients, and return to cook and serve food in a restaurant. Marvelous says the game includes over 100 recipes, procedurally generated biomes, elemental combat effects, and distinct cooking utensils and gourmet gear.
#1 Best Overall
- Hours of anime-inspired action adventure set over 9 fantastical worlds.
- Hundreds of ingredients, items, recipes, weapons and combinations to build your own custom skillset.
- 3 difficulty levels - Apprentice to Executive Chef – to make the game accessible to everyone.
- Deep story full of strange characters, dark humor, and plot twists! Over 40 original tracks, composed by rAYE.
- Languages - English, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese in-game text.
It is a close match in theme and loop, but not in the exact role cooking plays. In Dungeon Munchies, selected dishes shape the protagonist’s abilities and play style. In Cuisineer, the dungeon supplies ingredients for restaurant cooking and management; food-themed effects also feature in combat. The return to the restaurant is the major difference: customers, dishes, kitchen setup, and dining-room needs give the game a business-management layer that Dungeon Munchies does not center.
Marvelous lists Cuisineer for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its publisher pages give 9 November 2023 as the PC release date and 28 January 2025 as the console release date. These are publisher-listed platforms and dates; check your regional storefront for current availability.

- Big Menu for a Big Stomach - With a stomach that can only take seven dishes, you must put together a meal that maximises your abilities. Guava juice, grilled shrimp, or crab stirfry may mean the difference between health recovery, damage output or a watery shield!
- Tools of the Trade - Craft all kinds of deadly weapons out of the animal and plant parts you can’t eat. Pair them with your favorite dishes to create the most overpowered combat combo!
- Farm-fresh & Locally-sourced - In this day and age, ingredients are hard to come by. Be prepared to face off electriacl snails, razor-sharp shrimp claws, and laser wasps to get the delicious parts you need!
- Something Doesn’t Feel Right… - From the self-professed-AAA-license-holding necro-chef, to the diabolical voodoo “Lord of the Forest”, to the radical revolutionaries of the fruit revolution, everyone wants you to do their thing, but no one’s really right in the head. What’s really happening down in this dungeon?
