Gallagher Bassett has appointed Frank Caruana vice president of AI Solutions, a newly formed organization within Gallagher Bassett Digital. The unit is intended to apply AI across the company’s business lines, improve client experience and support growth; the announcement describes its aims, not completed results.
What Gallagher Bassett says the new AI Solutions unit will do
Claims Journal’s September 30, 2026 report and Risk & Insurance’s October 1 report describe AI Solutions as a new organization within Gallagher Bassett Digital. The stated remit is to translate AI capabilities into changes to client experience and the company’s business lines, scale proven initiatives and create growth opportunities. Claims Journal also described the unit as a way to support a faster pace of innovation, clearer accountability and a stronger platform for client experience. These are objectives, not evidence that specific changes or business outcomes have already been delivered.
The appointment reports do not identify a technology platform or vendor, explain whether the team will build, buy or integrate tools, or disclose its budget, staffing, deployment schedule or performance measures. They also do not specify which existing AI initiatives the organization will oversee.
What experience Frank Caruana brings
According to the two trade publications, Caruana most recently led claims automation, fraud and transformation work at Allianz Partners. Risk & Insurance characterizes that work as global in scope. Before that, he spent several years at GEICO leading claims technology transformation; Risk & Insurance also describes a significant expansion of digital customer engagement during his tenure. These career details are reported by the trade publications; their appointment coverage does not include a direct biography or a named executive’s verbatim statement about the appointment.

How the appointment fits Gallagher Bassett’s earlier AI comments
Gallagher Bassett had previously described generative AI applications for claims work. In a company article, Chief Digital Officer Joe Powell cited tools that could summarize claims and documents and answer questions for claims professionals, and discussed the potential for AI agents to work together. That provides background on the company’s stated direction, but the appointment reports do not establish that Caruana’s unit owns those tools or will expand them.
In a separate article published March 11, 2025, Gallagher Bassett’s CEO for EMEA & Asia, Manan Sagar, discussed increased investment in AI and data analytics in that region and emphasized the continuing role of human expertise. That was regional commentary from 2025, not a statement about Caruana’s new role.

What is still unknown
- Which AI tools, platforms or external technology partners the unit will use.
- Whether the team will develop technology, purchase it or integrate existing systems.
- How large the team or investment will be, and when staff or clients might see changes.
- Which claims use cases the unit will prioritize and how human review will work.
- What targets Gallagher Bassett will use to assess adoption, accuracy, speed, savings or client outcomes.
Until the company discloses those details, the appointment is best understood as an organizational move and stated mandate, rather than the launch of a named product or a measurable AI deployment.
