Apple’s price is official, while Samsung’s figure comes from launch coverage rather than its announcement. The available specifications show different strengths, but they do not establish an overall winner: the display measurements describe different screens, and camera and battery figures are not head-to-head tests.
Price difference: Samsung was reported $100 higher
Apple lists the iPhone Duo at a U.S. starting price of $1,999. Tom’s Guide reported a U.S. launch price of $2,099 for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, making Samsung’s reported starting price $100 higher. Samsung’s launch announcement did not state a U.S. price, so treat that number as secondary reporting, not an official price quote. Neither figure is a live offer; configuration, retailer, and current availability can affect what buyers pay.

How the displays compare
Apple specifies two iPhone Duo screens: a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. Samsung gives an 8-inch measurement for the Fold8 Ultra’s main display. The 8-inch figure is only 0.4 inch larger than Apple’s inner-display diagonal, but diagonal measurements alone do not establish usable area, aspect ratio, brightness, resolution, or viewing quality. The cited Samsung announcement does not give the cover-display size, so a full outer-screen comparison cannot be made from these specifications.
Camera numbers do not identify a photo winner
The iPhone Duo has 48MP Fusion main and ultrawide cameras, and Apple says its camera offers up to 2x optical-quality zoom. Samsung lists a 200MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide. These megapixel figures describe sensor resolution, not the complete imaging result. Without a directly comparable photo test, they do not show which phone produces better images, handles low light better, or delivers better zoom across shooting conditions.

Battery capacity and playback time measure different things
Apple describes a dual-battery architecture and rates the iPhone Duo for up to 31 hours of video playback. Samsung lists a 5,000mAh battery and 45W fast charging for the Fold8 Ultra. Playback time is a manufacturer-rated use estimate; milliamp-hours measure battery capacity. They are not interchangeable figures, and they do not establish comparative real-world battery life. The cited information does not provide a shared battery test under matching settings.

Apple specifies a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover and IP68 water and dust resistance. Samsung reports that the Fold8 Ultra weighs 215g and measures 4.1mm thick when unfolded. These are different categories of specification: the Samsung dimensions describe the open phone, and the Apple figures describe materials and a resistance rating. They are not enough to conclude which model is more durable or easier to carry.
Availability and what the launch figures mean
Apple says iPhone Duo availability begins October 23, 2026. Samsung says sales of its new foldable lineup began August 7, 2026, in select markets and would expand globally. Those statements do not guarantee stock in every country or at every retailer. Check local availability, exact model and storage configuration, and the current price before buying; the U.S. launch figures above are not current store quotes.
Samsung also reported that preorders for its new Galaxy Z lineup increased by more than 30% versus the prior generation. That figure applies to the lineup overall, not specifically to the Fold8 Ultra. Apple says iPhone Duo contains 35% recycled content overall and that 60% renewable energy is used across its supply chain for manufacturing. These are manufacturer-reported figures, not independent measurements.
Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Consider the iPhone Duo if Apple’s two stated display sizes, its camera configuration and zoom claim, or its published playback rating fit your priorities—and its $1,999 U.S. starting price matches your budget.
- Consider the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if its stated 8-inch main display, 200MP main camera, 5,000mAh battery, or unfolded size and weight are the specifications you value. Its $2,099 U.S. launch price is reported by Tom’s Guide, not stated in Samsung’s cited announcement.
- Compare the exact offers before deciding: regional stock, storage configuration, and current retailer pricing may differ from launch information. The available sources do not provide an independently tested overall winner or a matched camera or battery comparison.
