The Galaxy Z Fold7 and iPhone 17 Pro are built for different priorities: Samsung’s foldable opens into an 8-inch screen, while Apple’s is a conventional 6.3-inch phone. At their U.S. launch prices, the Fold7 started $900 higher. That premium buys a larger screen and foldable design—not a proven overall performance or camera advantage.
How much more did the Galaxy Z Fold7 cost at launch?
In the United States, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold7 at a starting price of $1,999.99 on July 9, 2025, with general availability beginning July 25. Apple announced the iPhone 17 Pro on September 9, 2025, at a starting price of $1,099; availability began September 19. The difference between those base launch prices is $900.

What do you get for the Fold7’s larger-screen design?
The Fold7 is a book-style foldable: Samsung specifies an 8-inch main display when open and a 6.5-inch cover display when closed. The iPhone 17 Pro has a conventional 6.3-inch OLED display. The Fold7’s key practical distinction is the extra screen area available when unfolded, which can suit reading, multitasking and placing apps side by side. The iPhone keeps the familiar single-screen phone shape.
#1 Best Overall
- BIGGER, YET SLIMMER THAN EVER: Who would’ve guessed that wider could also be lighter? The design of Galaxy Z Fold7 is refined to feel like a traditional smartphone with its expanded cover display.
- BEST CAMERA ON A FOLD YET: You asked for more – now you can have the most. Galaxy Z Fold7 now boasts an ultra-premium 200MP camera with Pro-Visual Engine so you can effortlessly take incredibly detailed pics.
- SCREENSHARE FOR STREAMLINED ASSISTANCE: Intrigued by something you see? Go Live with Google Gemini, then screenshare or point your camera at it for additional info or assistance on the fly.¹
- DO AND VIEW MORE, ALL AT ONCE: With an 8” screen that allows you to view up to three windows at once, Galaxy Z Fold7 is the ultimate device for seeing and doing more.²
- ALL THE POWER AND SPEED YOU NEED Smoothly run your day with the power and speed of Galaxy Z Fold7. With its customized Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for Galaxy, you can stream your favorite shows, edit photos, scroll social feeds and more with ease.³
That is a choice of form factor, not a like-for-like screen-size contest. If you expect to use a phone mostly closed, consider whether the Fold7’s cover display and folding design fit your routine; if you want a traditional handset, the iPhone is the more direct fit.
How do their cameras compare?
Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera and 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom for the Fold7. Apple describes three 48MP Fusion rear cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro. These specifications describe different camera systems; megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos.

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
For a camera decision, compare sample images in the settings you care about—such as low light, moving subjects, portraits or zoom—and check which focal lengths you use. The cited specifications do not establish a controlled head-to-head camera winner.
What do the specs say about battery, durability and stylus support?
Battery
Samsung specifies a 4,400mAh battery for the Fold7. Capacity is not a battery-life result, and the cited evidence does not provide directly comparable battery tests for both phones. It is not enough to declare a battery-life winner.

Water and dust resistance
Samsung rates the Fold7 IP48. Apple rates the iPhone 17 Pro IP68 and says it can withstand a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529. These ratings use different digit combinations; neither means a phone is damage-proof. Do not treat a resistance rating as a guarantee against liquid or dust damage.
S Pen
Samsung says the Fold7 does not support S Pen. Do not choose it on the assumption that it works with Samsung’s stylus.

Which phone and software ecosystem suit you?
The Fold7 uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite customized for Galaxy and runs One UI 8, with Galaxy AI features described by Samsung. The iPhone 17 Pro uses Apple’s A19 Pro and lists Apple Intelligence. These platform names do not establish a real-world speed comparison. Your existing devices, preferred apps and the specific software features you use are more useful decision points than chip labels alone. Features can vary by market and software version.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
- Consider the Galaxy Z Fold7 if you specifically want a large screen that unfolds for reading or side-by-side apps, and are comfortable with a foldable design and its higher U.S. launch starting price.
- Consider the iPhone 17 Pro if you want a conventional smartphone, prefer Apple’s ecosystem or place greater weight on the lower announced U.S. base launch price.
What should you check before buying?
- Choose the form factor first: a foldable with a large unfolded display or a conventional single-screen phone.
- Compare the same storage tier and the same purchase type, such as unlocked or carrier-linked, using current prices in your region.
- Review local trade-in terms and confirm that the features you want are available in your market and software version.
- If cameras or battery life are decisive, seek comparable tests or sample results for your own use cases; the specifications above do not settle those questions.
