The Galaxy Z Fold7 proved tougher than its thin profile suggests in Zack Nelson’s JerryRigEverything durability video: the phone remained operational after aggressive bending, while the inner foldable display scratched easily and suffered permanent heat damage. A later teardown, published separately, shows how Samsung fits a hinge, divided batteries and a reported titanium display-support structure into the slim chassis. The result is a structurally resilient foldable, not an indestructible one.
One headline covers separate pieces of coverage
The July 2025 JerryRigEverything upload was a destructive durability test. Reports from Android Authority and Notebookcheck describe its scratch, heat and bend sequences. Gizmochina’s detailed teardown appeared later, on September 4, 2025, and should not be presented as one uninterrupted video event. The test is an entertainer’s abuse demonstration, not a standardized certification or a prediction of failure rates.
Samsung lists the U.S. Galaxy Z Fold7 from $1,999.99 before trade-in, with an Armor Aluminum frame, Armor FlexHinge, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the cover display, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear and an IP48 rating. Those are product specifications, whereas the creator’s footage represents one handset under deliberately extreme treatment.
Scratch results: the two screens do not behave alike
Cover display
The 6.5-inch outer screen uses a glass cover and is intended to behave more like a conventional premium smartphone display. That does not make it immune to scratches, but its surface is substantially harder than the exposed protective layers used over the folding panel.

Inner display
The 8-inch-class inner OLED scratched at the very low level associated with soft foldable-screen surfaces in the reported test. Its layered construction needs flexibility, so it should not be treated as equivalent to the glass on a slab phone. A fingernail, grit caught between the halves or a sharp object can leave damage even when the cover screen remains clean.
Frame and rear panel
Marks on the Armor Aluminum frame or rear glass are cosmetic findings, not evidence that the phone stopped working. A scratch test also cannot establish how the chassis will perform after hundreds of folds, drops or exposure to pocket debris.

What the burn test actually shows
Nelson applied a torch to the display area. The inner OLED developed visible, permanent heat damage, commonly described in coverage as burn-in or dead-pixel damage. The phone therefore did not “pass” the burn test in the sense of escaping harm: the concentrated heat damaged the panel.
Gizmochina’s teardown report describes the torch as approximately 1,800°C. That figure is a description of the destructive setup, not an independently verified operating limit or a standardized laboratory measurement. The demonstration says that flame or extreme localized heat can destroy the display; it says nothing about a normal-use temperature ceiling, a fire rating or battery thermal-runaway behavior. Display damage must not be confused with a battery-fire test.

The bend test was the strongest result
Coverage of the JerryRigEverything video says repeated attempts to bend the Fold7 backward did not produce catastrophic separation, and the tested unit remained functional at the end of the recorded sequence. For a very thin foldable, that is a strong structural showing.
“Survived” has a narrow meaning here: this sample still operated after this filmed abuse. It does not guarantee survival after a fall, torsion in a pocket, a hinge blocked by grit or hidden damage that appears later. Nor does it replace Samsung’s own reliability testing or establish a population-wide failure rate.

What the teardown reveals inside
The later teardown shows how little spare space exists inside the Fold7. The hinge occupies the central junction, while the battery is divided between the two halves rather than placed in one large slab. The display support beneath the folding panel is reported to include a titanium structure. That material identification comes from Gizmochina’s teardown coverage and should be read as a reported component description, not as a quantified claim about strength.
This packaging helps explain how Samsung reduced thickness and weight without making the body fail immediately when bent. It also explains why damage can be costly: the inner display, support layers, hinge and adhesive-backed assemblies are specialized parts, not simple replacements for a conventional phone screen.

Samsung’s specifications versus what the abuse test proves
| Samsung-stated feature | What the recorded test demonstrates |
|---|---|
| Armor Aluminum frame | The frame endured the filmed abuse, but the video is not a materials certification. |
| Armor FlexHinge | The hinge and body showed strong resistance during the backward-bending sequence. |
| Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 cover display | The cover has upgraded glass protection; one sample still cannot establish universal scratch or drop performance. |
| Gorilla Glass Victus 2 rear glass | The rear panel’s material is specified by Samsung; the destructive test does not quantify its long-term breakage rate. |
| IP48 ingress rating | IP48 is limited protection, not a promise that sand, hinge debris or every liquid exposure is harmless. |
| Thinner, lighter construction | Thinness did not cause immediate bend-test failure, but less physical room can mean less margin for misuse and repair. |
What owners should do differently
- Keep keys, coins, grit and sharp objects away from the inner panel.
- Do not press hard on the folding display with a fingernail or an incompatible stylus.
- Check both halves for debris before closing the phone; trapped particles can concentrate pressure on the OLED.
- Do not casually remove or replace the factory inner-screen protector.
- Use a Fold7-specific case that protects corners and, where possible, the hinge without obstructing its movement.
- Keep the phone away from open flame, heating elements and prolonged direct sunlight.
- Treat IP48 as limited ingress protection rather than permission to use the phone in sand, dust or liquid.
- If a line, black spot, bubbling or touch failure appears, stop pressing the panel and arrange authorized service.
Is a case or Samsung Care+ worthwhile?
A case can reduce frame, corner and hinge impact damage, but it cannot make the inner display scratch-proof. Poorly fitted cases can trap debris or interfere with folding, so choose one confirmed for the Fold7 rather than assuming a Fold6 accessory fits.
Samsung promotes Care+ for accidental damage and mechanical breakdown. Coverage, enrollment windows and exclusions vary by country and purchase channel; check the current terms at Samsung Care+. For repair options, use Samsung’s service route and consult iFixit’s Fold7 repair reference. A teardown guide does not mean a consumer can safely or economically replace a foldable panel at home.
That protection question matters because Samsung’s U.S. list price is $1,999.99 before trade-in, and the inner display and hinge are specialized assemblies. Buyers who prioritize the lowest repair risk, broadest dust protection or conventional glass durability may be better served by a premium slab phone. Buyers who want the Fold7’s large folding screen should treat a case and eligible protection plan as risk management, not as permission to ignore the inner panel.
The practical verdict
The Fold7 is durable for a foldable in the specific sense shown by the video: its thin frame and hinge resisted severe bending. Its important weakness remains the inner display, which scratches far more readily than the cover screen and can be permanently damaged by concentrated heat. The teardown makes the engineering achievement clearer, but neither the teardown nor one destructive test proves long-term hinge life, drop resistance, dust immunity, repair cost or reliability for every unit.
