For private listening, Bluetooth earbuds are usually the better choice. They keep sound to yourself and can deliver more convincing bass or fine detail when the earbuds fit well and are well tuned. The Galaxy Z Fold7’s stereo speakers are the more convenient option for a video, podcast, notification, or sharing audio with another person. A TechRadar review describes them as loud and clear, but says not to expect booming bass.

There is no published, controlled test that establishes one universal winner against a defined Bluetooth-earbud model. Your result depends on the earbuds, their fit, the track, listening level, software settings and surroundings. The fairest conclusion is practical: use the Fold7 speakers for immediate, shared sound; use earbuds when privacy, bass, detail or noisy surroundings matter more.

Quick decision: which should you use?

Listening situation Better default Reason
Watching a short video alone in a quiet room Galaxy Z Fold7 speakers No pairing or charging step; the speakers are described as loud and clear.
Watching or listening where other people should not hear Bluetooth earbuds Sound stays personal and can be enjoyed at a lower room impact.
Travel, commuting or a noisy location Bluetooth earbuds The earbud fit gives you a direct, personal presentation instead of relying on sound spreading through the room.
Playing music for several people Galaxy Z Fold7 speakers Speakers are designed to be heard without asking everyone to pair a device.
Bass-heavy music Usually Bluetooth earbuds The Fold7 review notes limited bass; earbud performance varies by model and seal.
Most convincing result from your own equipment Whichever wins your matched test There is no controlled Fold7-versus-Bluetooth-earbud measurement in the available evidence.

What the Galaxy Z Fold7 speakers are good at

The Fold7 has stereo speakers, so opening the phone does not require an accessory for ordinary listening. Samsung’s specifications page identifies the Galaxy Z Fold7, while the independent TechRadar review characterizes its speakers as loud and clear. That is a reviewer’s listening impression, not a laboratory maximum-volume or frequency-response guarantee.

That combination makes the speakers useful for spoken-word content, short clips, navigation prompts and casual video. Voices can remain intelligible without putting anything in your ears, and you can start playback immediately. They are also the natural choice when another person needs to hear the same program.

  • Water and dust resistant: From the beach to the bike trail, the IP54-certified earbuds and IPX2 charging case are water and dust resistant for all-day experiences

The limitation is low-end weight. TechRadar specifically cautions against expecting booming bass. A small phone enclosure cannot create the same physical sensation as a well-sealed earbud, and the Fold7 speaker description should not be read as a promise that every track will sound full. Music with deep kick drums, sub-bass or dense electronic layers is where an earbud may make the larger subjective impression.

What “loud and clear” does—and does not—mean

“Loud and clear” describes the reviewer’s overall impression at the time of testing. It does not establish that every listener will prefer the speakers, that they outperform every earbud, or that they reproduce bass at a particular level. Room acoustics, the phone’s position and your listening volume all change the result.

Why earbuds can sound more satisfying

Earbuds put the transducers close to your ears and, when their tips fit correctly, create a more direct listening path. That can make bass and low-level details easier to notice than sound coming from a phone across a room. The improvement is not automatic: an inexpensive or poorly fitting pair can sound thinner than the Fold7, while a well-fitting pair can sound substantially richer.

Earbuds also solve the privacy problem. You can listen on a train, in a shared office or beside someone who is sleeping without broadcasting the track. They are therefore the better default whenever “good sound” includes not disturbing anyone else.

Fit is part of the sound system

Try the supplied ear-tip sizes and check that both earbuds seal consistently. A loose fit commonly reduces perceived bass and makes outside sound more prominent; an uneven fit can make one side seem louder. Re-seat the earbuds before deciding that the Fold7 speakers sound better. Comfort matters too: a technically better-sounding pair is not useful if you remove it after a few minutes.

What the available headphone evidence actually says

A What Hi-Fi? review discusses headphone listening through a USB adapter, describing a warm balance and less separation on complex music. That is useful context about one wired-headphone setup, but it is not a direct test of the Fold7 speakers against a named Bluetooth-earbud model. Bluetooth earbuds can use different drivers, tuning, fit and signal processing, so the wired observation cannot be generalized to all wireless pairs.

Do not turn either review into a universal score. The published material here contains qualitative listening comments, not a controlled frequency sweep, distortion result, loudness measurement or owner survey comparing the two outputs.

Dolby Atmos and 360 Audio: settings to test, not proof of a winner

Samsung documents Dolby Atmos support for speaker, earphone and Bluetooth output in its support troubleshooting article and its audio-features guide. Samsung says the feature is intended to enhance the audio experience, but enabling it does not guarantee that every recording or listener will prefer the result.

For Galaxy Buds2 and newer paired with a Galaxy device, Samsung says a 360 Audio setting uses Dolby Atmos. When compatible Buds are connected, the relevant menu appears in place of the ordinary Dolby Atmos option, according to Samsung’s support documentation. The exact controls can vary with device software, Buds model and market.

In its Fold7 review, What Hi-Fi? reported that Atmos opened up its listening impression while also adding a synthetic edge. That is a useful warning: spatial processing can make a presentation feel wider, but it can also change timbre in a way you dislike. Compare the same passage with the effect on and off rather than assuming “more processing” means “better.”

UHQ audio compatibility

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds4 product page lists the Z Fold7 among devices supporting UHQ audio up to 24-bit/96 kHz with One UI 6.1.1 or later. This is a compatibility claim. It does not prove that you will hear an improvement, and it does not make every Bluetooth earbud a high-resolution device. Your earbuds, software version and content must all support the relevant path.

Fold7 speakers versus Bluetooth earbuds by listening criterion

Criterion Fold7 stereo speakers Bluetooth earbuds How to interpret it
Privacy Audio is audible in the room. Designed for personal listening. Choose earbuds when other people should not hear the program.
Sharing Everyone nearby can listen. Each listener generally needs a compatible pair. Speakers are simpler for spontaneous group listening.
Bass TechRadar reports limited bass and says not to expect booming low end. Depends on model, seal and tuning; a good fit can provide a more satisfying low end. Use your own earbuds for the decision rather than assuming all pairs perform alike.
Detail and separation Reviewer evidence calls the sound clear but does not provide measurements. Can sound more detailed or personal, but quality varies by pair and fit. No universal ranking is established.
Convenience Ready to play with no accessory. Requires pairing, charge and a secure fit. Speakers win for a quick clip; earbuds win when their privacy benefits matter.
Spatial processing Dolby Atmos is supported. Dolby Atmos is supported; compatible Galaxy Buds2 and newer can expose 360 Audio. Effects are options to audition, not guarantees of superior sound.

How to run a fair comparison at home

Your own earbuds are more relevant than a generic internet verdict. Use one familiar track that contains vocals, bass and a busy section, then compare at a similar perceived loudness. A louder source often seems more impressive even when it is not more accurate.

  1. Choose the same source. Play the same recording from the same Fold7 app and account. Avoid switching to a different master or a video with different loudness.
  2. Prepare the speakers. Open the Fold7 in the orientation you normally use and place it where you would watch. Keep the phone at a fixed distance for each repetition.
  3. Fit the earbuds. Try the tip size that seals both ears, start playback and check that the balance is centered. Re-seat either side if bass changes when you move.
  4. Match loudness by ear. Reduce the louder option until vocals seem similarly prominent. Do not treat the phone’s volume percentage as a measurement shared with the earbuds.
  5. Listen to short, repeatable sections. Use the vocal entry, bass passage and dense chorus separately. Note bass weight, vocal clarity, treble sharpness and whether instruments remain distinct.
  6. Repeat with processing unchanged. First compare both outputs with your normal settings. Then audition Dolby Atmos off and on; if compatible Galaxy Buds are connected, compare the available 360 Audio mode as well.
  7. Make a use-case decision. If the earbuds win only when you sit still and focus, speakers may remain preferable for casual video. If privacy or commuting is the goal, those practical advantages can outweigh a small tonal difference.

Choosing by scenario

For podcasts, calls and spoken video

Start with the Fold7 speakers when you are alone or sharing the room. The loud-and-clear review impression suits speech, and avoiding an earbud insertion is convenient for a short session. Switch to earbuds if the room is noisy or you need privacy.

For music with deep bass

Begin with your earbuds, especially if they seal comfortably. The Fold7’s documented limitation is bass, while earbud low-end depends on the particular model and fit. Keep expectations realistic: earbuds are not automatically better, and an ineffective seal can erase their advantage.

For complex music

Listen for separation during the busiest section rather than judging from a simple vocal track. What Hi-Fi?’s wired review noted less separation on complex music and a warm balance, but that observation does not identify how your Bluetooth earbuds will behave. Use the matched test and decide which presentation lets you follow individual parts without fatigue.

  • JBL Headphones app: Select the EQ that fits your style or customize your own. Voice Prompts in multiple languages give you useful information (e.g.if battery is running low). Or chill out and recharge in Relax Mode by choosing one of five peaceful sounds.

For travel and shared spaces

Earbuds are the practical answer because they keep the program private and close to you. Keep the volume at a level that lets you remain aware of your surroundings when appropriate. The Fold7 speakers are better when you intentionally want nearby people to hear.

For showing someone a clip

Use the speakers. Asking another person to pair earbuds adds friction, and a short clip rarely justifies it. If the room is noisy, move closer or share the clip another way rather than assuming the phone can create booming bass at high volume.

Troubleshooting disappointing sound

The speakers sound thin

  • Move closer and listen in the same room position used for your earbuds; distance and reflections change perceived bass.
  • Try Dolby Atmos off and on. Samsung supports the feature for speaker output, but processing is a preference, not a guarantee.
  • Use a track with a clean vocal and bass section to distinguish the Fold7’s known low-end limitation from a recording that is itself light on bass.

The earbuds sound weak or lack bass

  • Refit both earbuds and test another tip size. Seal is a primary part of the result.
  • Check that the Fold7 is sending audio to the earbuds and that no separate volume control has been reduced.
  • Compare with Dolby Atmos and, for compatible Galaxy Buds2 or newer, 360 Audio settings. Keep the mode that sounds natural to you.

The Dolby Atmos or 360 Audio option is missing

  • Confirm that the earbuds are connected before looking for the Buds-specific 360 Audio control.
  • Check the phone and earbuds’ software versions. Samsung notes that feature availability can vary by device, software and market.
  • Do not infer sound quality from a missing toggle. Basic Bluetooth playback can still be judged directly with the matched listening test.

UHQ appears, but you hear no difference

Samsung’s 24-bit/96 kHz statement for the Buds4 and Z Fold7 is a supported compatibility path, not an audible-improvement promise. The recording, earbuds, listening environment and your own hearing all affect whether a change is noticeable. Leave the setting enabled only if you prefer what you hear or need the compatibility mode for a specific setup.

What the evidence can and cannot establish

The strongest defensible answer is conditional. Samsung establishes that the Fold7 supports the relevant Dolby Atmos features and that the Z Fold7 is listed for the specified Buds4 UHQ compatibility. TechRadar supplies a subjective description of the Fold7 speakers as loud and clear with limited bass. What Hi-Fi? supplies a subjective wired-headphone impression and a caution that Atmos can sound wider yet synthetic. None of those sources is a controlled comparison between the Fold7 speakers and one named set of Bluetooth earbuds.

Therefore, “earbuds sound better” is a useful default for private, bass-conscious listening, not a universal specification. “Fold7 speakers sound better” can be true for convenience, sharing, speech or a listener who dislikes an earbud’s fit. The best choice follows the situation and your own short, level-matched comparison.
