The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Motorola razr fold are effectively tied on reported US starting price: Samsung lists the Fold8 from $1,899.99, while Android Central reported a $1,900 US launch price for the razr fold. The clearest differences are size and handling: Motorola has larger screens and active stylus compatibility; Samsung is 42 g lighter in the cited comparison and has a smaller screen pair. Which is the better fit depends more on whether you want a bigger canvas or an easier-to-carry foldable than on the base price.

Which phone is easier to carry?
The Fold8 weighs 201 g, compared with 243 g for the razr fold in Android Central’s comparison—a 42 g difference. Samsung also has the smaller displays: 5.5 inches on the cover and 7.6 inches inside, versus Motorola’s reported 6.6-inch cover and 8.1-inch inner screens. That makes Samsung the more compact choice by weight and screen dimensions in the available comparison, while Motorola offers more display area for reading, multitasking, or viewing content. Screen size alone does not establish folded body dimensions, which are not provided here.
How do performance and battery compare?
The phones use different tiers of Qualcomm’s named processor lineup: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in the Fold8 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in the razr fold. That naming difference is not a substitute for comparable benchmark or everyday-performance testing, so it does not establish how much faster one phone is in real use.

Samsung lists a 4,800 mAh battery. The comparison source describes Motorola’s capacity as larger, but an exact figure is not established by the Motorola US product page cited here. Capacity also does not establish how long a phone lasts between charges; comparable runtime testing is not available here, so there is no supported battery-life winner.
Which phone supports a stylus?
Motorola presents the moto pen ultra as a compatible accessory for the razr fold. Android Central reports that the active stylus is sold separately; check the local bundle and accessory availability before buying. Samsung explicitly says the Fold8 does not support S Pen. If handwriting or annotating documents is important, that makes Motorola the option with the stated active-stylus workflow.

The listed camera hardware differs: Samsung’s official summary identifies 50 MP wide and ultra-wide cameras, while Android Central reports three 50 MP rear cameras on Motorola’s phone, including a 3x telephoto. Those specifications describe camera components, not image quality. Without comparable photo and video testing, they do not show which phone takes better pictures.
Samsung describes strengthened materials; Motorola cites Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 and says its internal testing found over 75% better drop performance than previous-generation devices. Motorola’s product page does not specify the test protocol or comparison devices, so that percentage is a company claim, not an independent durability result. Samsung’s launch announcement says the Fold8 is “Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet”; that is Samsung’s description of its own product history, not a comparative test against Motorola.
Which foldable should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if lower weight and a smaller display pair matter more to you. Samsung also publishes its battery capacity, processor, weight, display sizes, and lack of S Pen support directly on its US product page.
- Consider the Motorola razr fold if you want the larger reported cover and inner displays or active stylus compatibility. Confirm the stylus bundle and market-specific specifications with the seller.
- Do not choose on base price alone: the reported US starting figures are effectively tied, and temporary offers, storage configuration, and local availability can change the comparison.
Samsung announced the Fold8 on August 6, 2026, with sales beginning August 7 in select markets and broader global availability; the announcement names 106 markets. For Motorola, the US product page supports product and accessory details but does not provide a readily extractable current US price. Motorola’s 2026 user guide also notes that specifications may be modified, so check the current listing for your region.
