On a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the Benks ArmorGrid Air’s front-case lip changed how T3 writer Mike Lowe interacted with the phone: he felt more comfortable handling it roughly, while a separately sold magnetic grip gave the unfolded phone a way to stand upright. Those are one user’s impressions, not evidence that the case prevents damage.
What Lowe used on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
In an August 21, 2026 T3 article, Mike Lowe described using Benks’ ArmorGrid Air as part of the Armor Grand Combo, which paired the case with a GlassWarrior screen protector. He also used a Magnetic Phone Grip, but T3 described that accessory as a separate purchase—not part of the combo. Read Lowe’s account at T3.

The experience was about handling, not a quantified protection test. Lowe said the case’s front lip changed how he used the foldable and that feeling the phone was protected led him to handle it more ruggedly. That describes his response; it does not establish how another owner will feel or how well the case withstands drops.

The front lip altered the interaction
The practical change Lowe singled out was the lip added by the front portion of the case. It gave him a stronger sense of protection, but also changed the way he handled the phone. A case can affect the feel and access around a foldable’s front display as well as its bulk; the available account does not quantify those effects or show that they apply to all users.

The grip doubled as a stand
Lowe found that the separately sold Magnetic Phone Grip could prop the unfolded phone up like a stand. The account does not establish the grip’s exact model, compatibility with other Fold versions, or whether it was tested as part of the Armor Grand Combo.
Choosing a case style for a foldable
Benks’ guide lays out three broad approaches: a slim aramid-fiber back, a TPU case with hinge wrap, or using the phone without a case. The trade-off is chiefly between a thinner feel and more coverage, especially around the hinge. These are the manufacturer’s categories and guidance, not independent protection findings.

What the product names and compatibility do—and don’t—tell you
T3 calls the hands-on case the ArmorGrid Air; Benks’ guide uses the name ArmorAir. The guide discusses cases for the Fold 8, while Lowe’s account identifies his phone as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Confirm the exact model and case fit before buying: a similar name or product family is not proof of compatibility.

T3 says the ArmorGrid Air and ArmorGrid Pro are available on Amazon, but its account does not provide a direct listing or establish availability in a particular marketplace today. Lowe’s reported experience was with the Air, not the Pro. The combo’s GlassWarrior protector and the Magnetic Phone Grip are mentioned in his account, but their exact listings and compatibility details are not established there.

Lowe’s account offers a useful point to consider before choosing a case: a front lip may influence how a Fold feels in hand, and a grip can add a stand-like use when the phone is unfolded. It does not establish measured drop protection, lower repair risk, or universal comfort. Benks’ thickness figures can help frame the bulk trade-off, but they should not be read as independent performance testing.
