Tom’s Guide named the Pixel Watch 4 its overall winner over the Galaxy Watch8 Classic, citing better battery performance and a broader set of safety tools. That verdict is not universal: the Classic may suit you better if you want a larger stainless-steel watch with a rotating bezel and quick button. Your phone, preferred case size, and most-used features matter more than a single overall ranking.

Which watch is more comfortable to wear?
Galaxy Watch8 Classic
The Classic is a single 46 mm stainless-steel option at 63.5 g. Its rotating bezel and quick button offer tactile ways to navigate and control the watch, features Samsung highlights in its launch description. Its larger, heavier case may be a drawback if you prefer a compact watch or have a smaller wrist.

Google offers 41 mm and 45 mm cases, weighing 31 g and 36.7 g, respectively. The smaller model is the lighter choice; the 45 mm gives you a larger case and carries the higher official battery estimate. These weights and sizes are Google’s stated specifications, not a guarantee of how either watch will feel on your wrist.

What do the battery figures actually tell you?
Google’s figures are manufacturer estimates: up to 30 hours with always-on display for the 41 mm Pixel Watch 4 and up to 40 hours for the 45 mm. With Battery Saver, Google estimates up to 48 and 72 hours. Actual runtime depends on settings and use, so treat “up to” as a ceiling under conditions that may not match your routine.
Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch8 Classic battery as 445 mAh typical capacity. Capacity is not a runtime estimate, so it cannot be directly compared with Google’s hours figures. In its own testing, Tom’s Guide reported roughly 50 hours for the Classic and 60 hours or more for the 45 mm Pixel Watch 4. Those are that publication’s observed results, not a promise for every wearer. Its comparison is at Tom’s Guide.

Which one fits your Android phone and features?
Both watches require Android 11 or later, but compatibility is not identical. Samsung specifies Google Mobile Services and says selected AI features require a Samsung account and Galaxy phone. Google says Pixel Watch 4 works with most Android 11 or later phones and requires a Google Account and the Pixel Watch app. If a particular feature matters, check its phone and account requirements rather than assuming all features work on every compatible Android phone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSamsung describes its watch software as Wear OS powered by Samsung with One UI Watch; Google lists Wear OS 6.0 for Pixel Watch 4. Those labels alone do not establish which will work better for you. Consider the apps, account setup, and phone-specific features you actually use.

- Signature Rotating Bezel: Physical rotating bezel provides precise, tactile navigation through apps, menus, and notifications.
What about safety features and the overall verdict?
Tom’s Guide credits Pixel Watch 4 with a broader set of safety tools, including Loss of Pulse Detection and satellite SOS messaging, and names it the overall winner. The comparison does not establish that these features are available in every country or on every connectivity configuration. Check local availability and requirements before treating them as a deciding factor. Tom’s Guide’s comparison discusses the standard Galaxy Watch 8 against Pixel Watch 4, while its cited Classic battery result is a separate product-specific observation; its overall verdict should be read as that publication’s assessment, not a direct universal judgment of every buyer’s needs.

How to choose between them
- Choose the Pixel Watch 4 if lower listed weight, a choice of two case sizes, Google’s higher official battery estimates for the 45 mm model, or the safety tools discussed by Tom’s Guide are priorities.
- Consider the Galaxy Watch8 Classic if you want a stainless-steel 46 mm watch with a rotating bezel and quick button, and its size and weight suit you.
- Before purchasing either, confirm that your phone meets the requirements, check availability of important features in your region, and compare the current price of equivalent size and connectivity models. The cited sources do not establish a current like-for-like price comparison.
