The short answer: Galaxy Watch charging speed depends on the watch generation, the charging puck, the USB power adapter and the charging conditions. For Galaxy Watch5 and Watch6, Samsung’s current Canada guidance points to charger model EP-OR900. For Galaxy Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, it points to EP-OL300. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has a separate EP-OL715 charger assignment.
A puck can make physical contact while still charging slowly. Samsung says the redesigned rear sensor and back glass on Watch7 and Watch Ultra place the internal charging coil farther from the puck, so older chargers may charge those watches more slowly and produce more heat. Samsung also requires a USB Power Delivery adapter rated at least 5V/2A for optimal performance.

Which charger does each Galaxy Watch use?
Use the watch generation, not just the puck’s appearance, to choose a charger. Samsung’s Canada support guidance, updated August 14, 2026, assigns the following chargers and charging tiers:
| Galaxy Watch generation | Samsung charger indicated | Charging guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch5 and Watch6 series | EP-OR900 | Samsung lists faster charging than standard charging. |
| Galaxy Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra | EP-OL300 | Samsung lists faster charging than standard charging and recommends the newer puck design. |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | EP-OL715 | Samsung identifies a dedicated charger and describes Ultra2 as supporting Fast Charging. |
| Galaxy Watch4, Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch Active | Older compatible charger guidance varies by model | Samsung describes these generations as supporting standard wireless charging only. Verify the exact model before replacing a puck. |
The model number is usually printed on the charger or its packaging. If you have a bundled puck, check the watch’s original box or the support information for your regional model. “Compatible” means the watch can receive power; it does not necessarily mean the puck provides the fastest charging tier Samsung supports.

EP-OR900: Watch5 and Watch6
EP-OR900 is the charger Samsung associates with the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch6 families in its current Canadian guidance. Those watches are listed as supporting faster charging than the standard tier. The designation does not establish a universal wattage or a guaranteed number of minutes, because Samsung’s published guidance does not provide an apples-to-apples charging-time table.
EP-OL300: Watch7 and newer listed generations
EP-OL300 is the important compatibility change for Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Samsung’s Canada guidance also lists Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch9. Samsung’s EP-OL300 product information describes fast wireless charging for the Watch5 series, Watch6 series, Watch7, Watch Ultra and later models, while warning that actual speed varies with usage, charging conditions and other factors.
EP-OL715: Galaxy Watch Ultra2
Ultra2 is assigned a separate EP-OL715 charger in Samsung’s Canadian guidance. Do not assume that the EP-OL300 assignment for earlier Ultra models is the complete recommendation for Ultra2. Check the exact watch model and the charger’s labeling when buying a replacement.
Why an older charger may be slow on Watch7 or Watch Ultra
The Watch7 and Watch Ultra rear assembly changed more than the outside shape. In a Samsung Singapore FAQ updated July 13, 2024, Samsung explains that the new sensor design required a different back-glass shape. The change increased the distance between the internal wireless charging coil and the charger. Samsung states: “The alteration increased the distance between the internal wireless charging coil and the wireless charger, which may result in slower charging and higher heat generation.”

This is a design and coupling issue, not proof that the watch or battery is defective. An older puck may still align well enough to start charging, but the increased distance can reduce the charging experience Samsung intended for the newer watch. Samsung recommends the included Watch7-series charger, EP-OL300, for faster charging times on Watch7 and Watch Ultra.
Heat also matters. Wireless charging already loses some energy as heat, and poor alignment or greater coil distance can increase that loss. If the watch repeatedly pauses, displays a temperature warning or becomes unusually hot, let it cool and check the puck, adapter and alignment before trying again.
How fast should a Galaxy Watch charge?
There is no single official speed figure that applies to every Galaxy Watch. Samsung uses terms such as “faster” and “Fast” for supported generations, but the official pages covered here do not publish a universal wattage, guaranteed charge time or percentage-per-minute rate for each model.
Charging speed is affected by four variables:
- The watch: Battery size, generation and thermal limits differ.
- The puck: Newer pucks are designed around the charging hardware in newer watches.
- The power adapter: A weak or unsuitable USB supply can limit the puck.
- The conditions: Watch usage, temperature, alignment, case material and other charging conditions change the result.
Because Samsung does not provide a controlled comparison table, a charge-time result from one person’s watch should not be treated as a specification. A Watch7 charging on an older puck, with the screen active and a low-power adapter, is not comparable with a Watch7 on EP-OL300 using a suitable USB PD supply.

Choose the right wall adapter
Samsung’s current Canada guidance says Galaxy Watch wireless chargers need a USB Power Delivery adapter providing at least 5V/2A for optimal performance. That is a minimum supply requirement for the charging setup; it is not a statement that the watch itself charges at 10 watts or at any other fixed wattage.
What to check on the adapter
- Look for USB Power Delivery (USB PD) support in the adapter’s specifications.
- Confirm that the output includes at least 5 volts at 2 amps.
- Use a sound USB cable and a wall outlet or power source that is not intermittently disconnecting.
- Do not infer the watch’s charging rate from the adapter’s maximum advertised wattage. The watch and puck determine how much power is actually used.
Samsung lists recommended adapters on its support pages, but no particular third-party adapter is established here as an endorsed choice. If a charger works from one adapter but is slow or intermittent from another, the supply is a sensible first thing to test.
Can you charge a Galaxy Watch with a Samsung phone?
Wireless PowerShare lets some Samsung phones share battery power through the back of the phone. It is not a universal Galaxy Watch charger and should not be treated as the main solution for Watch7 or newer models.

Samsung’s United States support page says Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra are not compatible with Wireless PowerShare. Samsung’s more recent Canada guidance lists PowerShare support for Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch Active, while listing Watch7 and newer generations on that page as unsupported. The U.S. and Canadian lists are not identical, so confirm the exact watch model and the regional support page for your device.

Using PowerShare when your model supports it
- Enable Wireless PowerShare on the compatible Samsung phone.
- Place the watch’s rear charging area on the phone’s Wireless PowerShare zone, normally near the center of the back.
- Keep the phone and watch still and check that the watch shows a charging indicator.
- Stop if the phone or watch becomes excessively warm, or if charging repeatedly starts and stops.
PowerShare is best viewed as an occasional fallback for supported models. It is not a way to obtain the dedicated puck’s fastest charging behavior, and it is not a workaround for the Watch7 or Watch Ultra coil-distance change.
Step-by-step troubleshooting for slow or interrupted charging
- Identify the watch exactly. Check the model name in the watch settings, on the packaging or in the Galaxy Wearable app. Distinguish Watch5 from Watch5 Pro, and Watch Ultra from Ultra2, because charger assignments can differ.
- Read the puck model. Match Watch5 or Watch6 to EP-OR900 where Samsung specifies it. Match Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch9 and the listed Watch Ultra models to EP-OL300. Check the dedicated EP-OL715 assignment for Ultra2.
- Upgrade the puck for Watch7 or Watch Ultra. If an older puck charges but is slow or hot, do not assume it provides the newer watch’s intended fast-charging experience. Samsung recommends EP-OL300 for these models.
- Verify the adapter. Use a USB PD adapter rated at least 5V/2A. Replace an unknown, damaged or underpowered adapter before blaming the watch.
- Center the watch. Put the watch flat on the charging surface with the rear charging area centered over the puck. A shifted watch can charge intermittently or at a reduced rate.
- Remove obstructions. Take off thick cases, metal accessories, magnetic attachments or anything between the watch and puck. Samsung warns that accessories and unsuitable power sources can interfere with charging.
- Control temperature and activity. Stop active use while charging, move the setup away from heat and allow a hot watch or phone to cool. Thermal protection can reduce or pause charging.
- Retest with the dedicated combination. Use the correct puck, a suitable USB PD adapter and a bare watch. If performance remains slow or interrupted, follow Samsung’s support process or contact an authorized service center.
Common compatibility mistakes
Assuming every round Samsung puck is interchangeable
The pucks can look similar, but the watch-generation assignment matters. Physical contact only proves that some energy is being transferred. It does not prove that the watch is receiving the intended charging tier.
Buying by maximum adapter wattage
A 25-watt or higher adapter is not automatically faster for a watch than a properly specified lower-power adapter. The relevant baseline in Samsung’s guidance is USB PD with at least 5V/2A, while the watch and puck control the actual draw.

Samsung has not published a universal time chart in the cited support material. Battery level, temperature, usage and alignment can all change the result, so treat “Fast” as a supported charging capability rather than a promise of a fixed time.

Relying on phone sharing with Watch7 or Watch Ultra
Samsung explicitly excludes Watch7 and Watch Ultra from Wireless PowerShare compatibility in its U.S. guidance, and Canada’s newer list excludes Watch7 and newer generations shown there. Carry the correct puck instead of depending on a phone as an emergency charger.
What to buy when replacing a charger
Start with the exact watch model and the charger assignment, then confirm that the replacement includes the appropriate cable or connector for your setup. For Watch7 and the listed newer generations, EP-OL300 is the clearest Samsung physical-product match. For Watch5 and Watch6, EP-OR900 is the generation-specific assignment in Samsung Canada’s guidance. Ultra2 has the separate EP-OL715 designation.
Also budget for a USB PD wall adapter if your existing supply does not provide at least 5V/2A. Current prices, sellers and regional stock are not established here, so verify those details with Samsung or an authorized retailer in your country before ordering.
