The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 can work with supported non-Samsung Android phones, but Samsung reserves several headline health and coaching features for compatible Galaxy phones. At its U.S. launch price of $699.99, it makes the most sense for Galaxy owners who will use its trail-running or diving tools and are comfortable with a large watch. For other Android users—and for people seeking everyday wellness without outdoor-focused extras—the phone restrictions, bulk and real-world charging experience make it a harder buy.
What you get for $699.99
Samsung announced the 47 mm Galaxy Watch Ultra2 in the U.S. on July 22, 2026, with general availability starting August 7. The launch price was $699.99; market, carrier and retailer variations may apply. Samsung listed Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray finishes. Samsung’s U.S. announcement gives the full launch details.

The watch runs Wear OS 7 with One UI 9 Watch and uses a Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, with 2 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage. Its 1.52-inch, 498 × 498 Super AMOLED display supports always-on mode, and Samsung lists up to 5,000 nits brightness. Dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS is included. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. Samsung’s specification table has the listed hardware details.
Will it work with a non-Samsung Android phone?
Yes, if the phone is supported—but compatibility does not mean every feature is available. Samsung’s U.S. product information lists Android 13.0 or later and more than 1.5 GB of memory, and says activation requires a smartphone that supports Google Mobile Services. Compatible devices can vary by market, carrier and brand. Samsung Australia’s guidance likewise lists Android 13.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB RAM for Samsung and non-Samsung phones, while noting that some models and tablets are unsupported. That page is Australia-specific; check the requirements for your country and exact handset before buying. Samsung Australia’s compatibility guidance provides its local details.

The bigger limitation is feature access. Samsung says Running Coach and certain personalized health insights require a compatible Galaxy phone. Samsung Health Monitor features—including ECG, Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification and Sleep Apnea—also require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, and availability can be limited by market or regulation. Samsung’s distinction is direct: “Both Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 are compatible with Android phones, but several ecosystem features specifically require a Galaxy phone.” Samsung’s feature-compatibility explanation identifies the Galaxy-dependent tools.
If you use a non-Samsung Android phone, treat the Ultra2 as a compatible smartwatch with some ecosystem features missing—not as an equivalent experience with a different phone brand. Verify any health or coaching feature you consider essential against Samsung’s local support information before purchase.

What distinguishes the Ultra2 from a general-purpose smartwatch?
Trail-running information
Samsung positions the Ultra2 for demanding exercise and outdoor use. Its Trail Run feature is exclusive to the Ultra2 according to Samsung and can show elevation, climbing progress and cumulative ascent or descent. The watch also offers a range of workout modes. Samsung’s first look at the Ultra2 describes the trail-running information.

Samsung says the watch records dive depth, dive time and water temperature, and lists EN13319 certification. Its stated durability specifications include 10ATM water resistance, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H. These are manufacturer ratings and claims; they are not a blanket guarantee for every water sport, depth, environment or impact. Follow Samsung’s use and care guidance for the specific activity rather than treating a rating as permission for any conditions. Samsung’s feature overview covers diving and outdoor features.

How should you read the battery and charging claims?
Samsung lists an 800 mAh battery, up to 60 hours of use with always-on display enabled and a 90-minute full charge time. Samsung also says the battery capacity is 35% higher than the previous Ultra generation. These are official specifications and comparisons, not a promise that every user will get the same runtime or charging result. Samsung’s launch announcement gives the battery figures; its first look gives the generational comparison.
Android Central reviewer Nicholas Sutrich reported that his review unit barely lasted two days in his use and took around two hours to charge from empty—longer than Samsung’s stated full-charge time. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a population-wide result, but it is a useful counterweight to the manufacturer figure if you expect frequent GPS workouts or rely on the watch for continuous health tracking. Read the Android Central review for the reviewer’s observations.
Is it the right Android watch for you?
| Consideration | Why the Ultra2 may fit | What to weigh before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Phone | Galaxy owners can access the listed Galaxy-dependent coaching and health features, subject to local availability. | Supported non-Samsung Android phones work, but Samsung restricts several features to compatible Galaxy phones. Confirm your exact device and country. |
| Activities | Trail Run details, dual-frequency GPS and diving data suit buyers who will use outdoor-focused tools. | If you mainly want everyday wellness and notifications, you may be paying for capabilities you will rarely use. |
| Wearability | The 47 mm case houses a large display and the Ultra2’s outdoor-oriented hardware. | TechRadar describes it as bulky. Try a watch of similar size if comfort or a low-profile fit matters to you. TechRadar’s review discusses the size and value trade-offs. |
| Price and alternatives | The $699.99 U.S. launch price buys Samsung’s premium outdoor-oriented model. | TechRadar points to the less expensive Galaxy Watch9 for buyers who do not need the Ultra2’s emphasis, and the Garmin Fenix 8 for wilderness exploration. Check current local prices and compare the precise models before deciding; the cited coverage does not establish current prices for those alternatives. |
| Battery routine | Samsung specifies up to 60 hours with always-on display enabled. | The Android Central reviewer’s unit barely reached two days and charged more slowly than Samsung’s stated figure. Your result may vary, but plan around your own GPS, display and charging habits. |
Android Central’s review praises the Ultra2’s display, performance, multitasking, apps and workout additions, while raising concerns about battery life, charging speed, run pacing and Samsung-phone restrictions. The overall picture is of a capable successor whose appeal depends heavily on whether its outdoor features and Galaxy integration justify the price and size for you. The review details those strengths and limitations.
