Samsung’s smaller model is officially called the Galaxy Tab S12+, not the Galaxy Tab S12. The choice is mainly about screen size: choose the S12 Ultra for its 14.6-inch display and a roomier workspace, or the S12+ for a more portable 12.6-inch tablet. Both are listed with the same MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, S Pen support and DeX. Samsung’s US series page said orders would open October 7, 2026; that date was still in the future on October 3, so availability and final local pricing should be checked in your market.
Galaxy Tab S12+ vs. S12 Ultra: the main differences
Samsung positions the S12+ as the more portable option and the S12 Ultra as its large-screen productivity tablet. The display is the clearest distinction. Samsung’s US comparison page lists the following specifications:

Samsung’s US comparison page provides the display figures, while its US series page names the processor and describes the models’ intended roles. The listed processor family is the same for both; the choice between these tablets is not a choice between two different named processor families.
Which Galaxy Tab S12 should you buy?
Choose the S12 Ultra for a larger workspace
The Ultra is the better fit if you expect to keep multiple work panes visible, draw or edit on a broad canvas, or use the tablet mainly at a desk or table. Its 14.6-inch display gives those activities more room than the S12+ screen. That is a recommendation based on Samsung’s published size and positioning, not a verdict from independent comparative testing.

Choose the S12+ for portability
The S12+ is the more sensible choice if you want a smaller device to carry more easily while keeping the series’ S Pen support. Its 12.6-inch display is still substantial, but it takes up less space than the Ultra’s 14.6-inch panel. If you will often use the tablet away from a desk, that reduction in size may matter more than the Ultra’s extra screen area.
How do S Pen, DeX and performance affect the choice?
Samsung says both models support the S Pen and promotes DeX on the series. The pen is relevant for handwritten notes, precise editing and drawing on either screen; the Ultra’s larger panel may provide a broader canvas. DeX may suit desktop-style multitasking, especially with a keyboard for longer typing sessions, but confirm that any keyboard you consider is compatible with the specific S12-series model.

Samsung lists a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 in both tablets. It also reports that the Ultra’s NPU is 61% faster, CPU 19% faster and GPU 17% faster than the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. Those are Samsung’s comparisons with the previous Ultra, not independent test results and not a measured difference between the S12+ and S12 Ultra. Early hands-on launch coverage does not establish a complete independent speed or battery-life comparison.

As of October 3, 2026, Samsung’s US page showed October 7, 2026 as the order date for both models; the date had not yet arrived. That US listing does not establish when either tablet will be available in another country. No final regional price or directly comparable set of configurations is established here, so compare the actual local prices and memory and connectivity options once orders open. Avoid deciding based on an assumed price premium or savings.
