Choose the Galaxy Tab S12+ if you want a large AMOLED tablet with an S Pen in the box and Samsung DeX for a desktop-style workflow. Choose the 2026 iPad Air with M4 if your priority is Apple’s documented silicon specifications, iPad apps, or an existing Apple-device setup. Samsung has added productivity features and offers, while iPadOS 26 brings more seamless windowing. But neither the available specifications nor Apple’s own generation-to-generation performance claims establish a measured performance win over the S12+.
What the software gap means in practice
The S12+ and M4 iPad Air approach productivity differently. Samsung positions DeX, used with an optional keyboard, as a laptop-style environment. Apple says iPadOS 26 adds more seamless windowing, bringing resizable windows into its tablet workflow. That is a meaningful software improvement, but it does not establish that iPadOS now matches desktop operating systems or DeX.

For creative work, the decisive question is whether the apps you rely on behave the way you need on each platform. Samsung names Photoshop, Notability and Clip Studio Paint among its software offerings for the S12+. Apple’s M4 announcement highlights Apple creator apps and Goodnotes. Check the specific app versions, features and file handoff you need before buying: these product statements do not establish parity between the platforms or between their apps.
Samsung’s India product pages list up to seven OS upgrades and security updates for the S12+. That is Samsung’s support statement; the cited pages do not set a calendar end date or establish how long updates will take to reach a particular device. Verify the exact wording for the model and market you plan to buy.

Apple has the stronger documented silicon specification—not a proven head-to-head win
Apple’s technical specifications for the 2026 13-inch iPad Air list an M4 chip with an 8-core CPU, 9-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 12GB of unified memory and 120GB/s memory bandwidth. Apple says the M4 Air is up to 30 percent faster than the M3 Air and up to 2.3 times faster than the M1 Air. These are Apple-published comparisons with earlier iPad Air generations, not an independent test against the Galaxy Tab S12+.
Samsung’s India listing identifies the S12+ processor as a 3 nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500, but the cited product pages provide no same-test result against M4. So the evidence supports saying Apple has the more fully specified chip in these sources; it does not support a quantified S12+-versus-iPad performance margin. For demanding work, consider the apps and workflow as well as chip specifications.
Samsung describes the S12+ display as 32.04 cm diagonally. The Samsung page cautions that measurement reflects the full diagonal, so it should not be treated as a precisely equivalent viewable measurement without accounting for the manufacturer’s rounding and corner note. Apple markets its model as 13-inch; its technical page says the screen measures 12.9 inches as a rectangle.

Screen, pen and keyboard: compare the complete setup
Samsung specifies a large AMOLED screen for the S12+ and includes an S Pen in the box. Apple’s 13-inch M4 Air uses an IPS-based Liquid Retina LED-backlit display with a 2732-by-2048 resolution at 264 ppi and 600 nits brightness. Those are different display technologies; choose according to your preference for screen appearance and the size you want, rather than assuming the specifications make one universally better.
The pen and keyboard costs are not symmetrical. Samsung says the S Pen is included, while its S12+ Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim are optional. Apple lists Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C) as compatible accessories, both sold separately; they are distinct models, not interchangeable descriptions of the same stylus. The Magic Keyboard is also an extra purchase and is size-specific.
For one independent but limited datapoint, Tom’s Guide reviewer used the Magic Keyboard while writing the iPad Air M4 review and found its keys responsive and trackpad accurate, while noting its price and lack of backlighting. That is one reviewer’s experience with the Apple keyboard, not a comparison with Samsung’s keyboard.

U.S. launch prices and optional Apple accessories
Apple announced the following U.S. launch prices on March 2, 2026. They are launch figures, not a guarantee of current street prices. Samsung’s cited India pages cannot establish a comparable U.S. S12+ price, so these numbers do not support a direct price-value verdict.
| 2026 iPad Air option or accessory | U.S. launch price announced by Apple |
|---|---|
| 11-inch Wi-Fi iPad Air M4 | $599 |
| 13-inch Wi-Fi iPad Air M4 | $799 |
| 11-inch cellular iPad Air M4 | Starting at $749 |
| 13-inch cellular iPad Air M4 | Starting at $949 |
| Magic Keyboard for 11-inch iPad Air | $269 |
| Magic Keyboard for 13-inch iPad Air | $319 |
| Apple Pencil Pro | $129 |
| Apple Pencil (USB-C) | $79 |
Samsung’s India listing says the S12+ package includes the tablet, S Pen, cable, eject pin and quick-start guide; a charger is not included. Its battery is listed at 10,600 mAh, with up to 21 hours of video playback advertised. Samsung says actual playback varies with connection, settings, file format, brightness, battery condition and other factors, so treat that figure as a manufacturer estimate rather than a comparable test result.
Samsung’s software offers are temporary, not permanent inclusions
Samsung lists these limited-duration software offers for the S12+: four months of Adobe Photoshop, six months of Notability Plus, six months of Clip Studio Paint EX, one month of Notion Business and one year of Goodnotes Essential. They are offers, not evidence that subscriptions are included indefinitely. Check the terms, eligibility, redemption deadline and availability for your country and purchase.
Which tablet should you buy?
- Pick the Galaxy Tab S12+ if you want Samsung’s large AMOLED screen, an included S Pen, DeX, or a workflow anchored in Android and Samsung devices. Budget separately for a keyboard if you need laptop-style typing.
- Pick the 13-inch iPad Air M4 if you want Apple’s documented M4 specification, iPadOS windowing, or continuity with Apple devices and apps. Include the separate Pencil and keyboard costs if they are part of your setup.
- Compare locally before deciding on value. Match storage, connectivity, included accessories, promotions and software-offer terms in the market where you will buy. The cited Samsung India information and Apple U.S. launch prices are not a like-for-like price comparison.
Before committing, confirm that your essential apps and files work as expected on the platform, then price the full setup rather than the tablet alone.
