Choose the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra if you want the largest canvas for split-screen work, drawing and media. Choose the Galaxy Tab S10+ if you want nearly the same AI, S Pen and core tablet experience in a smaller, lighter and less expensive package. Samsung launched both in the United States on September 26, 2024, positioning them as its first tablets purpose-built for AI.

The Ultra’s extra screen area is most useful when two or three apps must remain visible, when a drawing needs a broad working surface, or when the tablet is replacing a laptop display. The Plus is easier to carry and saves $200 at the published US launch prices. Retail prices, storage bundles and regional model numbers can change.

Display and everyday portability
Ultra: a desktop-sized tablet canvas
The 14.6-inch 2960×1848 Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel gives the Ultra room for a document, browser and notes app side by side. Its 120Hz refresh rate supports smooth scrolling and pen movement, while the anti-reflection treatment is intended to reduce distracting glare. The trade-off is a larger device that is less convenient to hold one-handed or fit into a small bag.
Plus: the practical middle size
The 12.4-inch 2800×1752 panel retains the 120Hz refresh rate and anti-reflection treatment but is easier to transport and use away from a desk. It still provides substantial space for handwriting, sketching, video and split-screen work without the Ultra’s physical footprint.

Performance and Galaxy AI capabilities
Samsung reported that the Tab S10 Ultra is 18% faster in CPU performance, 28% faster in GPU performance and 14% faster in NPU performance than the Tab S9 Ultra. These are Samsung’s own comparison figures, not results from independent testing, and they should not be treated as a guarantee for a particular app or workload.
What the AI tools can do
- Circle to Search: circle an object or text on screen to search for it without leaving the current app.
- Drawing Assist and Sketch to image: turn rough drawings or prompts into generated imagery.
- Gallery tools: apply AI-assisted edits to images.
- Screen translation: translate displayed content.
- Voice Recorder transcription: convert recordings to text.
- Transcript assist: help organize and work with transcribed speech.
- Summaries and automatic formatting: condense notes or structure them for easier reading.
- PDF translation: translate supported PDF content.
- Math assist: help work through mathematical expressions.
Samsung describes basic Galaxy AI features as free. Enhanced Samsung features and third-party AI services can have separate terms, account requirements or fees, so check the conditions shown for your region and software version.
S Pen, note-taking and drawing
An S Pen is included with both tablets; it is not an accessory you need to buy separately for ordinary note-taking or drawing. The pen supports Air Command, handwriting, sketching and coloring. Attaching it to the tablet charges and pairs it.

Best model for AI note-taking
Both models support the same S Pen-oriented AI functions, including transcription, summaries, automatic formatting, PDF translation and math assistance. The Ultra is preferable when you routinely keep reference material, a meeting document and handwritten notes open together. The Plus is the better fit if portability matters more than maximum workspace.
Best model for drawing
The Ultra’s 14.6-inch surface gives a larger area for detailed illustrations and fewer zoom or pan operations. The Plus remains a capable sketchbook and is easier to use on a couch, in a classroom or while traveling. Neither model’s included S Pen turns the tablet into a dedicated professional graphics display; choose based on canvas size and handling preference.
Do you need the keyboard cover?
No. The included S Pen covers handwriting, annotation and drawing. A compatible Book Cover Keyboard is an optional productivity upgrade for long typing sessions, email, spreadsheets and laptop-style workflows. Samsung’s keyboard covers add a physical keyboard and a dedicated Galaxy AI key, but they also add cost, weight and bulk.

Samsung US lists a $199.99 MSRP in 2026 for the Tab S10 Ultra & S9 Ultra Book Cover Keyboard Slim with AI key. Confirm that a cover matches your exact model; Ultra and Plus accessories are not interchangeable simply because both tablets are in the S10 family.

The Ultra has an 11,200mAh battery and the Plus a 10,090mAh battery. Both support 45W fast charging. Capacity alone does not establish runtime: brightness, refresh rate, cellular use, gaming, recording and AI workloads can change endurance substantially, and no independent runtime comparison is established here.
Both tablets use an enhanced Armor Aluminum frame and carry an IP68 water-resistance rating. IP68 is protection against specified dust and freshwater exposure under test conditions, not a promise that every liquid, depth, duration or accidental submersion is harmless.
Storage and connectivity choices
Storage
The Ultra was announced with 256GB, 512GB and 1TB tiers. The Plus was announced with 256GB and 512GB tiers. Video projects, downloaded media, large drawing files and offline AI assets can make the higher capacities worthwhile because storage cannot be assumed to expand your working space later.
Wi-Fi and 5G
Samsung announced Wi-Fi configurations for both tablets. A 5G Tab S10+ model was announced through major US carriers, while exact cellular availability depends on country, carrier and model number. Verify the regional specification before ordering.
Which Galaxy Tab S10 should you buy?
Buy the Tab S10 Ultra when
- You want the biggest possible Android tablet workspace for split-screen research, documents and communication.
- Your main creative activity is detailed drawing, image work or media editing.
- You expect to use a keyboard cover as a laptop-style workstation and can accommodate the larger device.
- You need the announced 1TB storage option.
Buy the Tab S10+ when
- You want the lower published US launch price and a more portable tablet.
- You take handwritten notes, annotate PDFs or draw but do not need a 14.6-inch canvas.
- You want the option of a 5G configuration through supported US carriers.
- You prefer a tablet that is easier to hold away from a desk.
A practical AI tablet setup
- Start with the included S Pen. Pair and charge it by attaching it to the tablet, then use Air Command for shortcuts to notes and pen tools.
- Set up a notes workflow. Record a meeting with Voice Recorder when appropriate, use transcription and Transcript assist, then apply summaries or automatic formatting.
- Use the large screen deliberately. On the Ultra, keep source material and notes visible together; on the Plus, switch between panels or use a two-app layout that fits your working style.
- Check AI terms before relying on a feature. Confirm whether a function is included, requires a Samsung account, depends on a supported language or invokes a separate third-party service.
- Add a keyboard only for sustained typing. If most of your work is handwriting, reading or drawing, the included S Pen may be all you need.
What the published evidence does not establish
- There is no independent benchmark confirming Samsung’s CPU, GPU or NPU percentage improvements.
- There is no independent battery-runtime comparison between the Ultra and Plus.
- Long-term reliability and durability beyond the stated construction and IP rating are not established by the launch specifications.
- AI availability, language support, pricing, inventory and subscription terms can change by date, software version and market.
The Bottom Line
The Tab S10 Ultra is the specialist choice for maximum workspace, detailed drawing and laptop-like multitasking. The Tab S10+ delivers the same essential S Pen and Galaxy AI experience in a more portable, lower-cost form. Buy the keyboard only if your workflow requires sustained physical typing; the S Pen is already included.
