Samsung has not announced Galaxy S27 Ultra specifications. Reports point to a possible camera redesign and changes to camera hardware and image processing, but they are leak-based and some details conflict. The announced Galaxy S26 Ultra—not the S27—is the reliable baseline for judging what might change.
What the S27 Ultra reports say about the camera
The clearest theme in current S27 Ultra coverage is the camera, though the reporting describes possibilities rather than a confirmed design. Android Authority reports leaked renders and a tipster’s claim of a redesigned camera layout. Android Central relays tipster claims that Samsung may also adjust how photos are processed. Tom’s Guide reports competing possibilities for the telephoto hardware.

Camera layout: a reported redesign
Android Authority’s report says the rear camera layout could change. It also says the phone may otherwise look much like the S26 Ultra, with a similar overall size and display size and the S Pen still positioned on the left. These observations are based on leaked renders and tipster reporting, not a Samsung announcement.
Photo processing: possible changes to tone and detail
Android Central’s September 29, 2026 report relays a tipster’s claims of less noise in dark or night photos, warmer color tones instead of cooler ones, and better control of highlights on small, bright objects at a distance. No S27 camera samples or Samsung-confirmed processing changes are established in the available reporting.

Telephoto cameras: no settled zoom configuration
A September 29 Tom’s Guide report relays a claim that Samsung might drop the 3× telephoto camera, leaving a jump from the main camera’s 1× view to a 5× telephoto view. A separate Tom’s Guide roundup describes competing telephoto possibilities, including a larger sensor with a different optical zoom level. The claims do not establish the S27’s lens count, sensor sizes, or zoom steps.
How the reported changes compare with the confirmed S26 Ultra
Samsung’s February 2026 announcement provides the confirmed comparison point. The right-hand column below reflects leaks and reports, not specifications Samsung has published for the S27 Ultra.

What Samsung has actually announced about the Ultra
Samsung’s February 25, 2026 Galaxy S26 series announcement identifies a built-in Privacy Display, a customized chipset, upgraded thermal management, and wider camera apertures among the S26 Ultra’s features. It names the processor as the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. These are S26 Ultra features, not advance confirmation of what the S27 Ultra will include.
Samsung also reported S26 Ultra processor improvements compared with the prior generation: up to 19% CPU performance, 39% NPU performance, and 24% GPU performance. These are Samsung’s stated comparisons, not independent test results or S27 performance figures.

In the same announcement, Samsung CEO, President, and Device eXperience Division Head TM Roh said: “We believe AI should be something people can depend on every day, designed to work consistently for everyone and without the need for expertise.” That describes Samsung’s stated AI philosophy; it does not confirm a specific S27 feature.

No such conclusion follows from Samsung’s broader Ultra branding. Samsung’s June 4, 2025 article, “Meet the Next Chapter of Ultra,” presented an Ultra experience in a foldable form factor, emphasizing a larger unfolded screen for entertainment, work, and multitasking. That is official positioning for a foldable Ultra experience, not an announcement that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will fold.

What to make of the reports if you are deciding whether to wait
For anyone choosing a phone now, the S26 Ultra can be assessed against features Samsung has actually announced. For anyone considering waiting for 2027, treat the S27 camera redesign, telephoto changes, processing tweaks, battery, and front-camera resolution as unresolved until Samsung publishes specifications. The current reports do not support a definitive S27-versus-S26 feature list or a reliable prediction of which zoom range the next Ultra will offer.
