Should you buy the Galaxy S26 now or wait for the Galaxy S27? If you need a phone before the next generation arrives and the S26’s current price works for you, buying the S26 is the more practical choice. Samsung’s US store listed the 256GB model at $999.99 on October 3, 2026; the rumored S27 increase is an unconfirmed report about Korea, not a confirmed US price.
What the S27 price leak actually says
Tom’s Guide reported on October 1, 2026, that a blog on South Korea’s Naver platform alleged the base Galaxy S27 could cost in the “higher 130,000 won range” more in Korea. Tom’s Guide converted that estimate to roughly $95 at the exchange rate it used. Samsung has not confirmed the claim, and the won-to-dollar conversion is not a forecast of a US price. Tom’s Guide also cautioned that a Korean increase does not necessarily mean prices will rise in other regions. Tom’s Guide’s S27 price report

That makes the leak a reason to watch S27 pricing, not proof that buying an S26 now will save a particular amount. The S27 series is expected in early 2027, according to the same report, but Samsung has not confirmed a launch date in the cited material.

The current base-model listing is $100 above Samsung’s March 2026 US MSRP sheet, which gave the unlocked 256GB S26 a $899.99 MSRP. That sheet listed the 512GB S26 at $1,099.99 and the 256GB S26+ at $1,099.99, and said prices were subject to change without notice. This is a comparison of dated US manufacturer prices, not a claim about every retailer’s pricing or the phone’s street price over time. Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP document
Why the S26 case is practical, not predictive
The evidence for buying now is straightforward: the S26 is available, with a current US store price to assess, while the S27’s price remains unconfirmed. If your current phone needs replacing before the S27 is expected, waiting means continuing with the phone you have or choosing another available model; it does not guarantee a lower price later.

Tom’s Guide also reported October 1 that US starting prices for the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra 256GB models had risen to $999, $1,199, and $1,399, respectively, with the 1TB Ultra at $1,999. Samsung’s live US listing supports the reported S26 and S26+ price points. The cited Samsung MSRP sheet is from March and predates those reported changes. Tom’s Guide’s report on S26 price changes
What is known—and not known—about S27 configurations
A separate TechRadar report attributed alleged S27 configurations to South Korean leaker Lanzuk. Those details are leaks, not Samsung specifications:

- The reported S27 and S27+ configurations have 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage.
- The reported S27 Ultra configurations have 12GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB of storage, plus a 1TB tier with 16GB of RAM.
- Some upper configurations might use LPDDR6 memory or UFS 5.1 storage, according to the report; it does not establish that those components will ship or which exact models would get them.
Until Samsung announces specifications, these claims are not a reliable basis for choosing a storage tier or deciding whether a faster component is worth waiting for. TechRadar’s report on leaked S27 configurations

| Your situation | More sensible next step | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You need a replacement before the expected early-2027 S27 window | Consider the S26 at the price available to you now. | It is available now; the S27 price and launch date are not confirmed. |
| Your current phone works and you can wait | Wait for Samsung’s S27 announcement, then compare official prices and specifications. | The reported increase concerns Korea and is not a confirmed price for your market. |
| You are deciding based on an S26 deal | Compare the actual checkout price, storage tier, trade-in value, and financing terms in your country. | Samsung’s listed US price does not establish what other sellers or markets charge. |
For a fair comparison, match the market, currency, storage tier, and type of price: an official list price is not the same as a carrier promotion or retailer offer. Check the terms of any trade-in or installment plan, too. An attractive monthly payment can depend on a qualifying plan or credits over time, so compare the total amount you will pay rather than the monthly figure alone.
