At reported US launch prices, the S26 cost $899 with 256GB, while the S25 was $859.99 with 256GB and $799 with 128GB. Those are historical launch prices, not today’s offers, so compare current prices at matching storage before choosing.
What changed between the Galaxy S26 and S25?
Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 series on February 25, 2026, and said it would be available to buy from March 11, 2026. The base S26 is a modestly larger phone with more listed battery capacity, but Samsung’s listed rear-camera arrangement is the same as the S25’s. Samsung’s comparison guide provides these specifications and launch dates.

| Specification | Galaxy S26 | Galaxy S25 | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.3-inch FHD+, 120Hz | 6.2-inch FHD+, 120Hz | The S26 gives you a little more screen; the S25 is marginally more compact. |
| Weight | 167g | 162g | The S25 is 5g lighter. |
| Typical battery capacity | 4,300mAh | 4,000mAh | The S26 has a higher rated typical capacity, but that figure alone does not establish longer real-world battery life. |
| Rear cameras | 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom | 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom | Samsung’s listed hardware does not show a rear-camera advantage for the S26. |
| Base storage | 256GB | 128GB | The S26 starts with twice the storage of the S25’s base configuration. |
Battery capacity is a manufacturer specification, not a runtime test. The available specifications also do not establish a performance advantage between these exact base models. Samsung says availability and update timing can vary by device model, so these figures are not enough to determine how many years of software support either phone has left. Samsung’s announcement includes that availability caveat.
How much did each phone cost at US launch?
Tom’s Guide reported the following US launch prices on March 20, 2026. These are launch-price figures, not current street prices; promotions, stock, and carrier offers may change what a buyer pays.

| Galaxy S25, 256GB | $859.99 |
| Galaxy S26, 256GB | $899 |
At the entry level, the S25 launched for $100 less, but with half the storage. At 256GB, the S25’s reported launch price was $40.01 below the S26’s. Tom’s Guide’s comparison reports those US launch prices. They are useful context, not a substitute for checking today’s local offers.
Which phone should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy S25 if price matters most
- Its current local price is meaningfully lower than the S26’s.
- 128GB is enough for your apps, photos, videos, and downloads—or you find a good 256GB offer.
- You prefer the slightly smaller, lighter phone.
The S25 is the straightforward value pick when the discount is real and its storage suits you. Compare an available Galaxy S25 configuration against the equivalent S26 capacity rather than comparing a 128GB S25 with a 256GB S26 as if they were equal.

Choose the Galaxy S26 if its premium fits your priorities
- You want 256GB as your starting storage and would otherwise pay extra for that capacity on the S25.
- You value the slightly larger display or the higher listed typical battery capacity.
- You prefer the newer generation and the current price difference is acceptable to you.
The specifications support those practical distinctions, but do not establish longer real-world battery life or a major rear-camera hardware upgrade. If neither the extra storage nor the size and capacity changes matter to you, paying more for the S26 is harder to justify on the evidence here.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to compare current offers fairly
- Match storage first. Compare 256GB with 256GB when possible; otherwise account for the S25’s lower 128GB starting configuration.
- Check your local market. Compare the unlocked price and any carrier offer available in your country, including the conditions attached to a discount.
- Use the total you will actually pay. Confirm the selected storage, seller, stock, and any trade-in or plan requirement before treating a listed price as a deal.
- Decide whether the differences matter to you. Weigh the screen size, listed battery capacity, storage, and the S25’s lower weight against the price gap; the listed rear-camera hardware is the same.
There is no single current-market winner without a country, retailer, and date-specific price comparison. Samsung’s comparison page is UK-specific, while the quoted price figures above are reported US launch prices; neither should be treated as a live offer in another market.
