Power saving, a less demanding display setup, selective sleeping of background apps, and app-by-app notification controls can all help. They involve tradeoffs: sleeping an app may delay notifications, while display reductions can change how the phone looks. Samsung and Android publish useful guidance, but neither provides a model-specific percentage or extra-hours guarantee for each adjustment.
Start with Battery usage instead of changing everything
Before enabling several restrictions, inspect the S26 Ultra’s consumption data. Open Settings > Battery and review the apps and system features using the most power. Samsung’s menu labels can vary with One UI and the installed software version, so use the closest Battery or Battery usage screen if the wording differs.

This check prevents a common mistake: applying aggressive limits to every app when one unusually active app, a bright display, poor reception, or a recent software problem is responsible. Note which apps are consistently high, then change one category of setting at a time. Use the phone normally for a day before deciding whether the change helped; Samsung does not publish a guaranteed runtime increase for any individual switch.
What to look for
- An app with unusually high foreground use may simply be the app you use most, rather than a fault.
- High background use is a candidate for selective sleeping or notification cleanup.
- Display use is expected to be high on a large, bright screen, but brightness and timeout still deserve review.
- Battery drain that remains extreme after ordinary settings changes may point to an app bug, poor signal conditions, heat, or a battery-health issue rather than a missing toggle.
Use Power saving when extra runtime matters most
Power saving is the quickest built-in response when you need the phone to last longer and can accept reduced background activity or other limited features. Samsung describes customizable Power saving controls, and a One New Zealand guide for the S26 Ultra running Android 16 also presents the mode as a way to reduce consumption.

- Open Settings > Battery.
- Tap Power saving (the exact label may differ by One UI version).
- Review the available options before turning the mode on. Depending on software version, you may be able to limit background activity, reduce performance, restrict display behavior, or disable features you do not need.
- Enable the mode for a period when you need endurance, then check whether important notifications and updates still arrive.
Power saving is not a free improvement. Restrictions can delay synchronization, reduce convenience, or alter how some features behave. If you are waiting for a time-sensitive message, navigation update, security alert, or work notification, check that the relevant app remains allowed to operate. Turn Power saving off when you need full background behavior again.
Reduce display demand without making the phone unpleasant to use
The display is often one of the largest visible consumers of power. Samsung’s battery guidance calls out brightness, screen timeout, resolution, and wallpaper; Android’s general battery guidance also recommends reducing brightness. Adjust the least noticeable option first rather than making every change at once.
Brightness
Lower brightness manually when you are indoors or in shade, and avoid leaving the screen at maximum brightness longer than necessary. Adaptive brightness can be convenient, but it may choose a level higher than you prefer in some environments. The practical target is the lowest level that remains comfortable and readable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesScreen timeout
Choose a shorter timeout if the screen often remains on after you set the phone down. A shorter period saves power during forgotten, idle screen time, but an excessively short setting can interrupt reading or two-factor authentication. Pick a value that matches how you actually use the device.

Resolution and display quality
Samsung lists screen resolution among the settings worth reviewing. A lower resolution can reduce display demand, but the visual difference is more noticeable to some people than others. If text, photos, video, or games are a priority, keep the higher-quality setting and try brightness and timeout changes first.
Wallpaper
Live or animated wallpapers can use more battery because they keep rendering activity active. A static wallpaper avoids that ongoing work. Samsung also notes that dark wallpapers may help on AMOLED displays, where dark pixels generally require less light output. The effect depends on the image, brightness, and how much of the screen is dark, so treat this as a modest optimization rather than a guaranteed large saving.
Stop selected apps from running in the background
Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps can limit background battery use. The important word is selected: broad restrictions can make the phone feel unreliable if applied to apps that need timely activity.
- Open Settings > Battery and find the app or background-management section. On some One UI versions, the path may appear under Battery, Device care, or an app’s individual battery settings.
- Review the lists for sleeping or deep-sleeping apps.
- Add apps that do not need to refresh until you open them, such as an infrequently used game, shopping app, or occasional reference tool.
- Leave essential messaging, authentication, security, travel, health, alarm, and work apps unrestricted unless you have tested the consequences.
- If an app stops delivering expected updates, remove it from the sleep list or change its battery setting back to unrestricted.
Samsung’s application-management documentation warns that sleeping apps cannot perform activities such as notifications or updates while they are restricted. Deep sleeping is therefore appropriate only when delayed activity is acceptable. It can save background work, but it cannot distinguish between a notification you consider unimportant and one you urgently need.

Choose the right restriction
| Choice | Use it when | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Unrestricted or allowed to run | The app must deliver timely messages, alerts, navigation changes, security checks, or work updates. | More background activity and potentially higher battery use. |
| Sleeping | You rarely need the app to refresh while it is closed. | Background work and notifications may be delayed. |
| Deep sleeping | You want the strongest background limit and can open the app manually when needed. | Notifications and updates may not occur until you launch the app. |
Turn off unwanted notifications one app at a time
Reducing interruptions does not require silencing the entire phone. Galaxy S26 coverage has highlighted notification categories, which let you keep useful alerts while disabling noisy ones when an app exposes those controls.
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select an app that sends unnecessary alerts.
- Look for Notification categories or a similarly named category-control option.
- Leave important categories enabled and switch off promotional, recommendation, social, or other nonessential categories.
- Repeat for the next high-noise app.
Controls vary by app. Some developers provide detailed categories; others expose only broad notification permission or a small set of channels. If categories are missing, open the app’s own settings and check whether its notification preferences are managed there. Do not assume one universal Galaxy switch will produce the same choices for every app.
Notifications also have a battery angle: fewer alerts mean fewer screen wake-ups, sounds, vibrations, and brief background processing. The main benefit, however, is fewer interruptions. Disable only what you recognize; keep account, security, delivery, travel, medical, and work alerts that you rely on.

Understand Battery protection: lifespan, not same-day runtime
Battery protection is easy to confuse with an immediate battery-saving mode. Samsung states: “Charging your battery to 100% for a long period can reduce its lifespan.” Its Battery protection options are intended to reduce long-term wear by changing how charging behaves, depending on the mode available on your software version.

Use Battery protection if your priority is preserving battery capacity over months and years, especially when the phone spends long periods connected to a charger. Do not treat it as proof that the phone will last longer between charges today. The available modes and labels can differ by One UI release, so read the description shown on the S26 Ultra before selecting one.

Samsung lists Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and location as features you can turn off when not needed. These are situational choices, not mandatory battery prescriptions.
- Turn off Bluetooth when you are not using earbuds, a watch, a car system, or another accessory.
- Keep Wi-Fi on when it provides a stable connection; disabling it can force mobile data use instead.
- Disable location only when you do not need maps, geofencing, emergency functions, device finding, or location-based automations.
Frequent manual toggling can be less useful than leaving a radio enabled on a reliable network. Consider your actual connectivity, signal strength, and accessories before changing these settings.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A practical order for improving battery life and reducing distractions
The following sequence gives you the most information with the fewest disruptive changes:
Best Value
- Check Settings > Battery and identify the biggest consumers.
- Reduce brightness or screen timeout if the display is a major contributor.
- Replace a live wallpaper with a static one if you use animation.
- Use Power saving when you need extra endurance and can accept its restrictions.
- Put only nonessential, high-background-use apps into Sleeping or Deep sleeping.
- Trim notification categories for apps that interrupt you without providing useful information.
- Enable a Battery protection mode for long-term charging care.
- Review Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and location only in situations where they are genuinely unnecessary.
After each change, observe both battery behavior and usability. A setting that saves background power but causes missed messages is the wrong setting for that app. Conversely, a notification category that adds no value can usually be removed without affecting core phone functions.
Fix common side effects
Notifications arrive late
Check whether the affected app is sleeping, deep sleeping, restricted by Power saving, or missing an enabled notification category. Remove the app from the sleep list, restore its battery access, or re-enable the relevant category.
An app updates only after you open it
That behavior is consistent with deep-sleep restrictions. Return the app to an unrestricted or allowed state if background refresh is required.
The screen looks worse after a battery change
Restore the previous resolution or display setting and try a smaller brightness or timeout adjustment instead. Battery guidance does not require every display reduction for every user.
Battery drain remains unusually high
Return to Battery usage and look for a newly dominant app or system process. Install pending software updates, check whether the phone is hot or operating in poor signal conditions, and remove restrictions from essential apps that are failing. If the pattern continues, use Samsung support or service diagnostics rather than repeatedly disabling unrelated features.
What these settings can—and cannot—promise
These controls address common sources of consumption and interruption, but there is no published S26 Ultra test result assigning a fixed percentage or number of extra hours to each change. Results depend on brightness, network conditions, app mix, refresh behavior, location use, temperature, and how often the screen is active. The best configuration is the one that targets your measured consumption while preserving the notifications and display quality you actually need.
