The Galaxy S25+ is the larger phone and has a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera; the iPhone 17 is smaller, starts with 256GB of storage and runs Apple’s A19 chip. In AT&T’s US retail comparison, the listed starting prices are $999.99 for the S25+ and $829.99 for the iPhone 17—a $170 gap, with the iPhone lower. Those are carrier-listed figures, not a universal or like-for-like launch-price comparison.

How their size and displays differ

The S25+ is the choice for a larger viewing area: Samsung specifies a 6.7-inch display with 3120 × 1440 resolution. The iPhone 17’s display measures 6.3 inches, making it the smaller-screen option. AT&T lists the S25+ at 6.23 × 2.98 × 0.28 inches and the iPhone 17 at 5.89 × 2.81 × 0.31 inches, and describes the iPhone as lighter in its comparison. These measurements point to a practical trade-off: a more expansive screen versus a handset that takes up less room in a hand or pocket.

Camera hardware: a dedicated telephoto versus optical-quality 2x

The S25+ has three listed rear cameras: a 50MP main, 10MP telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide. AT&T identifies its telephoto as 3x optical. The iPhone 17 combines a 48MP main camera with optical-quality 2x Telephoto and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. If framing distant subjects is important, the S25+’s dedicated 3x telephoto is a meaningful hardware distinction; the iPhone’s listed system pairs its main camera with a 2x option and a higher-resolution ultra-wide.

Those specifications describe different camera arrangements, not a controlled photo-quality result. They do not establish which phone produces better photos across everyday scenes, video or low light.

Performance and battery: what the available figures can—and cannot—show

Samsung names the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy in the S25+, while Apple names its A19 chip for iPhone 17. The cited sources do not supply a matched benchmark, so chip names alone are not a sound basis for declaring a performance winner.

Samsung lists a 4,900mAh battery for the S25+ and publishes a playback claim on its New Zealand market page. Apple calls iPhone 17 battery life “all-day” in its launch description but does not provide a directly comparable capacity or duration figure there. Capacity and a general-use claim use different measures; these figures do not support a head-to-head battery-life verdict.

Price difference: compare the same country, storage and offer type

For a US carrier-listing reference, AT&T shows retail starting prices of $999.99 for Galaxy S25+ and $829.99 for iPhone 17. Subtracting those listed figures gives a $170 difference, with the iPhone lower. AT&T’s page includes eligibility and installment terms, and carrier discounts, trade-in credits, storage, retailer and market can change the amount a buyer pays. Treat the gap as a comparison of those listed US retail starting prices, not a current universal price difference.

Apple’s official US launch price for iPhone 17 was $799 for 256GB in 2025. Samsung’s New Zealand specifications page lists NZ$1,999 for the S25+ with 256GB and NZ$2,259 for 512GB; those New Zealand prices should not be compared directly with US prices. The available figures do not establish a like-for-like US launch MSRP difference between the two phones. Check current prices in your country at the same storage tier, and distinguish unlocked pricing from carrier offers.

Which phone fits your priorities?

Choose the Galaxy S25+ if

  • You want the larger 6.7-inch, 3120 × 1440 display.
  • A dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera is more useful to you than the iPhone’s optical-quality 2x option.
  • You prefer Android and Samsung’s Galaxy experience.

Choose the iPhone 17 if

  • You prefer a smaller 6.3-inch phone.
  • You want to use iOS or already rely on Apple’s ecosystem.
  • You want 256GB as the entry storage tier, or prefer the iPhone’s listed main-and-ultra-wide camera arrangement.

Before ordering either model, compare the exact storage configuration and the current unlocked or carrier price where you live. For carrier deals, check eligibility and installment conditions alongside the headline price.
