PhoneArena’s PhoneArena Show E28 report, published November 29, 2024, covered an unofficial video that appeared to show the then-unreleased Galaxy S25 Ultra. The footage was not Samsung confirmation, but its most visible prediction proved reliable: Samsung moved the Ultra from the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s sharp, squared-off shape to a rounder, flatter design. The video was directionally accurate, yet it did not establish every specification later associated with the phone.

What the E28 video appeared to show

The original report described a purported hands-on video of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. In the footage, PhoneArena identified several physical changes rather than a complete specification reveal:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • More rounded corners than the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
  • A flat-sided frame.
  • Flat front and rear panels.
  • A softer, more conventional slab-phone silhouette.

That represented a clear visual break from the S24 Ultra’s pronounced rectangular corners. The likely benefits were comfort and less pressure from sharp edges when holding the phone. The trade-off was less of the distinctive, instantly recognizable “Ultra” shape that some S24 Ultra owners preferred.

The report also discussed a possible body that was slightly taller, narrower and thinner, but those dimensions were expectations around the video, not measurements proven by the footage itself. Read the original account at PhoneArena’s E28 article.

Was the leaked video authentic?

The careful conclusion is that it appeared credible and was later supported by Samsung’s final design, but the video’s provenance was not independently documented in the report. There was no published chain of custody, device identifier, metadata analysis or source verification that would justify calling it definitively genuine at the time.

A pre-release clip can show an engineering validation unit, dummy hardware or regional prototype. Camera tuning, internal components, software, modem configuration, colors and storage options can still change before retail release. The final product’s resemblance strengthens the video’s credibility; it does not turn an unofficial clip into an official Samsung announcement.

Which specifications were expectations rather than visible evidence?

The E28 discussion bundled the physical video with a broader rumor package. Those claims should be separated from what viewers could actually see:

E28-era expectation What it meant at the time What Samsung later confirmed
Snapdragon 8 Elite A processor prediction, not visible in the handset footage Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy
5,000mAh battery Rumored capacity 5,000mAh typical-rated battery
45W wired charging Expected charging limit Up to 45W; Samsung says about 65% in roughly 30 minutes with a 45W adapter
6.8-inch-class display Early screen-size wording 6.9 inches measured across the full rectangle, or 6.8 inches accounting for rounded corners
One UI 7 Software expectation discussed alongside the leak Android 15 with One UI 7.0 at launch

The original article also mentioned 15W wireless charging. That figure belongs to the leak-era report and should not be generalized to every market without an exact regional specification.

How the final Galaxy S25 Ultra compared

Samsung’s launch materials confirmed the broad shape change and supplied the measurements the leak could not establish. The Galaxy S25 Ultra measures 162.8 × 77.6 × 8.2mm and weighs 218g. Samsung describes its display as 6.9 inches diagonally across the full rectangle; excluding the rounded corners produces the 6.8-inch figure often used in early coverage. Those are two measurement conventions, not necessarily conflicting screens.

The phone uses a titanium frame and retains flat display and rear surfaces. Samsung’s official launch announcement lists the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, 5,000mAh battery, Android 15 with One UI 7.0, and storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. What the leak did not fully capture

The camera upgrade

The video was mainly a design story. In hindsight, one of the more consequential hardware changes was the ultra-wide camera. The retail S25 Ultra has a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultra-wide, 50MP 5× telephoto, 10MP 3× telephoto and 12MP front camera. It records 8K video at 30 frames per second and 4K video at up to 120 frames per second. The move to a 50MP ultra-wide was not the principal claim of the E28 report.

Software direction

PhoneArena’s report associated the phone with a redesigned One UI 7 notification shade, more separated quick controls, smoother animations and a visual direction some commentators compared with iOS. “More like iOS” is an interpretation, not a Samsung specification. The final device did launch with Android 15 and One UI 7.0, plus seven years of operating-system and security updates, but feature availability can vary by region, language, account, app and software version.

Battery and charging were incremental

The 5,000mAh capacity and 45W wired limit matched the expectations, but neither represented a major charging breakthrough. An unchanged capacity does not prove unchanged endurance: processor efficiency, display behavior, modem use, software and camera processing all affect runtime. Samsung advertises up to 31 hours of video playback on its US product page, a controlled manufacturer metric rather than a universal real-world result.

What changed compared with the Galaxy S24 Ultra?

Area Why it matters Limitation
Rounded body and corners Potentially more comfortable for a large phone; flat panels remain case- and protector-friendly Primarily ergonomic and aesthetic, not a fundamental change in how the phone works
Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy Newer flagship platform for performance and on-device AI The benefit depends on the apps and workloads you use
50MP ultra-wide camera More detailed ultra-wide and close-focus capture than the previous 12MP unit The E28 video did not establish this upgrade
Seven years of updates Longer ownership runway Software support does not make the large, heavy body smaller
5,000mAh battery and 45W charging Familiar capacity and charging behavior No headline battery-capacity or charging-speed leap

Should an S24 Ultra owner upgrade?

Upgrade makes sense if

  • You dislike the S24 Ultra’s sharp corners and want the revised ergonomics.
  • You need the newer Snapdragon platform or expect to keep the phone for many years.
  • You regularly use the ultra-wide camera and value the 50MP replacement.
  • Your trade-in offer substantially reduces the purchase cost.

Staying with the S24 Ultra makes sense if

  • Its performance and cameras already meet your needs.
  • The rounded redesign alone does not justify the expense.
  • You prefer the older phone’s more distinctive squared-off appearance.
  • You are satisfied with its remaining software-support period.

New buyers should also account for the phone’s size and 218g weight, whether 256GB is enough for 8K video and large games, carrier-band compatibility, and whether they already own a suitable USB-C charger. Samsung’s US purchase page states that the phone does not include a charger. The US unlocked 256GB listing showed $1,299.99 before trade-in when observed; promotions, stock and regional pricing change, so treat that figure as a reference rather than a current universal price. Details are on the Samsung US product page and US purchase page.

Verdict: a reliable design preview, not a complete reveal

The PhoneArena Show E28 video was valuable because it previewed the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s most visible change: rounded corners, flat sides and a less severe silhouette. Its surrounding predictions also landed unusually well on the processor, battery, wired charging, display class and launch software. But the footage did not prove those specifications, did not provide a complete camera story and was never equivalent to Samsung confirmation. In hindsight, the fairest description is directionally reliable, incomplete and most useful as a leak retrospective—not as a current rumor report.
