The iPhone 17e is the lower-priced option in this U.S. comparison: Apple announced a 256GB starting price of $599, while Samsung’s U.S. listing showed $799.99 for an unlocked 256GB Galaxy S25—a $200.99 difference between those specific references. The S25’s clearest hardware advantages are its display’s stated refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a dedicated 3× optical telephoto camera. Choose the 17e if you prefer iOS, want MagSafe or Qi2 charging, or are comparing against Apple’s announced starting price; choose the S25 if you want Android, more documented camera focal lengths, or a physical SIM option on the U.S. model.

U.S. price difference: $200.99 for the cited 256GB models

Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $599 for the 256GB iPhone 17e on March 2, 2026, with U.S. availability beginning March 11. Samsung’s U.S. store listing showed $799.99 for the unlocked 256GB Galaxy S25. Subtracting those figures gives a $200.99 difference. The arithmetic compares Apple’s announced starting price with a Samsung store listing, not two guaranteed live checkout totals. Samsung promotions, retailer prices, and availability can change; check the price and terms where you plan to buy.

Apple also lists a 512GB iPhone 17e. The Samsung reference here is specifically the U.S. 256GB model, so the figures do not establish a like-for-like price for other capacities, regions, or sellers. Apple’s announcement and Samsung’s U.S. listing are the references for this snapshot.

Which display is a better fit?

Choose the S25 if smoother motion matters

Samsung specifies a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for the S25’s 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. That gives the S25 the stronger documented case for buyers who prioritize high-refresh motion. Apple lists the 17e’s OLED size, resolution, pixel density, and brightness, but the cited specifications do not state a refresh rate. That omission is not enough to assign the iPhone a particular rate or to make an independent smoothness judgment.

Choose by size and stated display details

The S25 is listed at 6.2 inches when measured as a full rectangle, or 6.0 inches accounting for rounded corners; the 17e is 6.1 inches. Those figures use different measurement descriptions, so the small diagonal difference should not be treated as a precise measure of usable screen area. Apple specifies 460 ppi and its typical and HDR peak brightness figures for the 17e; Samsung’s cited page specifies FHD+ resolution and up to 120Hz.

Camera flexibility: three lenses versus one rear camera

Galaxy S25: separate ultrawide and telephoto cameras

The S25 has three rear cameras in Samsung’s specification: a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultrawide camera. Samsung lists 3× optical zoom and optical-quality 2× zoom. The separate ultrawide and telephoto cameras provide documented options for framing beyond the main camera’s view.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

iPhone 17e: 48MP Fusion camera with a 2× view

Apple specifies one 48MP Fusion rear camera and an optical-quality 2× telephoto view, with digital zoom up to 10×. “Optical-quality” is Apple’s description; it is not the same claim as a separate optical telephoto lens. The number of lenses and megapixels alone does not establish which phone takes better photos. No controlled side-by-side camera test is available here, so image-quality superiority remains unresolved.

SIM, charging, and compatibility considerations

SIM and travel

The U.S. S25 product page lists either a physical SIM with eSIM or dual eSIM. The iPhone 17e is eSIM-only and does not support a physical SIM card. If you rely on swapping physical SIMs when travelling or use a carrier that requires one, this difference may decide the purchase. Verify the exact regional model and carrier support before buying, since SIM configurations can differ by market.

Wireless charging and adapters

Apple specifies MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W for the 17e. The cited Samsung specifications do not establish a directly comparable wireless charging speed or standard for the S25. Both phones use USB-C charging. Samsung says the S25 package does not include a travel adapter; Apple says a 20W-or-higher adapter is sold separately for its stated 30-minute charging estimate. Check package contents in your region and confirm accessory compatibility for the exact phone model.

How to choose between them

  • Pick the iPhone 17e if you want iOS, prefer Apple’s ecosystem, value MagSafe or Qi2 charging, or the $599 U.S. announced price for 256GB fits your budget. Remember that it has no physical SIM slot.
  • Pick the Galaxy S25 if you want Android and Samsung’s One UI, prioritize a display specified for up to 120Hz, or want separate ultrawide and telephoto cameras with Samsung-listed 3× optical zoom.
  • Compare the exact purchase configuration if storage or price is decisive. The $200.99 gap is between Apple’s announced 256GB starting price and Samsung’s U.S. unlocked 256GB listing; it is not a universal or fixed price difference.
  • Decide based on the devices and services you already use when platform compatibility matters. Specifications cannot determine whether Android/One UI or iOS is a better personal fit.

What the specifications do not settle

The listed specifications do not establish a battery-life winner, a real-world performance winner, or which phone produces better photos overall. Those judgments require comparable independent testing under defined conditions. Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 series on January 22, 2025; Apple announced the iPhone 17e on March 2, 2026. The manufacturer figures above describe what each company states, not the results of a head-to-head test. Samsung’s series announcement is available at Samsung Mobile Press.
