At US listed prices, the 256GB Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 costs $800 more than the 256GB Galaxy S25 Edge: $1,899.99 versus $1,099.99. The Fold8’s case is its 7.6-inch inner screen for reading, video and multitasking; the S25 Edge is the thinner, lighter conventional phone. These are listed prices, not guaranteed checkout prices, which can change with offers and trade-ins.
Price difference: $800 at the 256GB US list price

Screen and form factor: conventional phone or foldable workspace?
The Edge has one 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. Samsung says the viewable diagonal measures 6.5 inches when rounded corners are accounted for. The Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover display for use while closed and a 7.6-inch main display when opened. Because the Fold8’s inner panel has a different shape and opens into a larger canvas, diagonal measurements alone do not capture how the two phones feel to use.

The larger interior screen is the Fold8’s defining advantage for content viewing and multi-window work. Samsung also describes rotating the main screen for a reading orientation. The Edge instead offers a familiar single-screen phone format without unfolding. Samsung’s Fold8 availability and display explainer says general availability began August 7, 2026; its S25 Edge specification announcement is dated May 13, 2025.
Size and weight: the Edge is lighter; Fold8 thickness is quoted open
| Measurement | Galaxy S25 Edge | Galaxy Z Fold8 |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 163g | 201g |
| Thickness | 5.8mm | 4.5mm when open; folded thickness is not stated in the cited Samsung US page |
| Other dimensions | 158.2 × 75.6mm | Not stated in the cited comparison sources |
The 4.5mm Fold8 figure is its open thickness, not its thickness while folded. Despite the Edge’s slim 5.8mm profile, it weighs 38g less than the Fold8. Samsung lists the Fold8’s weight and open thickness on its US product page; Edge dimensions and weight come from Samsung’s specifications announcement.

Cameras: high-resolution main camera versus a foldable with no telephoto
The S25 Edge has a 200MP main rear camera with optical image stabilization and 2x optical-quality zoom, plus a 12MP ultrawide camera. The Fold8 has two 50MP rear cameras; Tom’s Guide reports that the standard Fold8 does not include a telephoto camera. Those configurations present different trade-offs: the Edge has a high-resolution main sensor and ultrawide, while the Fold8 lacks a dedicated telephoto lens. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos.
Battery: capacity figures do not settle endurance
Samsung lists the S25 Edge at 3,900mAh typical capacity and says charging with a 25W adapter can reach about 55% in around 30 minutes; the adapter is sold separately. The Fold8 has a listed 4,800mAh battery. Tom’s Guide measured 12 hours and 19 minutes for the Fold8 in its own 5G web-surfing battery test. That is one outlet’s result under a specific test, not a head-to-head comparison: no directly comparable battery test for both phones is established here, and capacity by itself does not prove which lasts longer in everyday use.

Durability and protection: different published ratings and materials
Samsung specifies IP68 water and dust resistance and a titanium frame for the S25 Edge. Samsung describes the Fold8 with an Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2; Tom’s Guide reports an IP48 rating for it. IP68 and IP48 are not equivalent ratings, and neither specification means a phone is indestructible. A foldable also has an inner screen and hinge, so buyers should factor in the added exposure to dust and the care required by a folding display rather than treating it like a conventional glass-front phone.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if the inner screen is the point
- You expect to use the 7.6-inch screen for reading, video or working across multiple windows.
- You are willing to pay the higher listed price and carry a heavier device to get a phone that opens into a larger display.
- You prefer the Fold8’s foldable format despite its reported lack of a dedicated telephoto camera.
Choose the Galaxy S25 Edge if you want a slim, conventional phone
- You want a single 6.7-inch phone display and a lighter 163g device.
- You would rather avoid the Fold8’s $800 higher 256GB US listed price.
- You value the Edge’s published IP68 rating, 200MP main camera and ultrawide camera configuration.
This is a specification-based choice, not a claim that one phone is universally better. If the unfolded screen would not change how you use a phone, the Fold8’s main distinction may not justify its higher listed price for you. Check current prices and exact storage availability before buying; Samsung notes that Edge specifications may vary by market and product details can change.
