The Galaxy Z Fold7 is the better fit if you want an 8-inch screen for reading, video and multitasking. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the more straightforward choice if you prefer a conventional phone, need S Pen support or prioritize its larger stated battery capacity and IP68 rating. These recommendations follow Samsung’s specifications, not comparative hands-on testing.

Samsung’s specifications show the central trade-off: the Fold7 gives you a larger screen when unfolded, while the S24 Ultra keeps a single fixed display and supports a stylus. Weight figures are published specifications; market variants may differ. Samsung’s S24 series specifications and the Samsung US Fold7 product page and FAQ are the sources for the figures above.

How the displays change everyday use
Choose the Fold7 for a larger work and viewing area
Folded, the Z Fold7 has a 6.5-inch cover display for ordinary phone tasks. Open it to use the 8-inch inner display, which offers more room for reading, watching video and working across apps. That expanded canvas is the clearest reason to choose it over the S24 Ultra.
Choose the S24 Ultra for a conventional phone
The S24 Ultra’s 6.8-inch display is large, but it does not unfold. If you want a single-screen phone and would rarely use a tablet-like inner display, its conventional form avoids making that larger canvas central to your daily carry.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
S Pen support: a clear difference
The S24 Ultra supports Samsung’s S Pen functionality. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 FAQ states, “Galaxy Z Fold7 does not support S Pen.” If handwriting, sketching or stylus-based note-taking is part of your routine, that makes the S24 Ultra the relevant choice between these two models. Battery capacity is not the same as battery life
Samsung lists a typical capacity of 5,000mAh for the S24 Ultra and 4,400mAh for the Fold7. That gives the S24 Ultra the higher stated capacity, but capacity alone cannot tell you which phone lasts longer in your use: screen size, settings, signal conditions and workload also matter. No like-for-like independent runtime result is established here, so these figures should not be treated as a measured battery-life comparison. IP68 vs IP48: understand the ratings
The S24 Ultra is rated IP68; Samsung describes its rating as lab-tested submersion in freshwater up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. The Fold7 is rated IP48. These ratings are not equivalent: IP48 does not mean the Fold7 is waterproof, and its dust protection has limits associated with the rating. Neither rating is a reason to expose a phone deliberately to water or dust outside the manufacturer’s stated conditions. Samsung S24 series specifications; Samsung US Fold7 product page.

Samsung lists the Fold7 with a 200MP wide camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The available S24 Ultra specifications here do not establish its complete camera resolution and zoom table, so a lens-by-lens comparison would be incomplete. A 200MP main camera by itself does not prove overall camera superiority; megapixels do not describe the full camera system or the quality of its output. For a camera-led decision, seek a direct review comparing photos and video from both phones rather than relying on the Fold7’s headline resolution.

Price difference: separate launch prices from current listings
At U.S. launch, Samsung priced the S24 Ultra from $1,299.99 in 2024 and the Fold7 from $1,999.99 in 2025—a $700 difference between their launch starting prices. That is a historical comparison, not today’s price gap. Samsung’s S24 U.S. launch announcement; Samsung’s Fold7 launch announcement.
Samsung US’s purchase listing surfaced these Fold7 prices when accessed on October 7, 2026. Listings can change, and the S24 Ultra’s current price was not established, so the figures do not show a same-day price difference.

Choose the Galaxy Z Fold7 if
- You will regularly use the 8-inch inner screen for reading, video or multitasking.
- The foldable design suits how you carry and use a phone.
- You are comfortable with its IP48 rating and do not need S Pen support.
Choose the Galaxy S24 Ultra if
- You want a conventional, non-folding phone with a 6.8-inch display.
- S Pen support is important to your note-taking or creative workflow.
- You prefer the higher stated battery capacity or IP68 rating.
Neither is a universal upgrade over the other. The deciding question is whether the Fold7’s larger unfolded screen is valuable enough to make a foldable the right form factor for you.
