The Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra suit different priorities: the S23 Ultra has an embedded S Pen and 10x optical zoom, while the Fold8 Ultra opens into an 8-inch display for a larger working area. For US unlocked 256GB models, Samsung’s published reference prices differ by $900—but the S23 figure is a September 2023 MSRP, not its current resale price.

Which screen and form factor better match your use?
Choose the Fold8 Ultra for a larger working area
Folded, the Fold8 Ultra presents a 6.5-inch cover display; opened, it provides an 8-inch main display. That gives you the option of a compact outer screen for ordinary phone tasks and a larger surface for work or multitasking. Samsung describes the model as designed to elevate productivity with AI-powered multitasking; that is the company’s product positioning, not an independent performance finding. The phone measures 4.1mm thick unfolded, according to Samsung’s 2026 materials. Samsung Mobile Press: Fold8 Ultra first look

How do the cameras compare?
Both phones have a 200MP main or wide camera, but their telephoto options differ. The S23 Ultra has separate 3x and 10x optical telephoto cameras; the Fold8 Ultra’s listed telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom. That makes the S23 Ultra the more clearly specified choice if native 10x optical reach matters to you.
The Fold8 Ultra lists a 50MP ultrawide camera, compared with 12MP on the S23 Ultra. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better pictures, and the available specifications do not provide a controlled camera comparison. Samsung lists a 5,000mAh battery for each phone. The Fold8 Ultra’s “up to 27 hours” of video playback is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result; it should not be treated as a guarantee of everyday battery life. The cited specifications do not establish comparative real-world endurance.

Samsung US listed the Fold8 Ultra at a regular price of $2,099.99 for the same storage capacity, as observed October 7, 2026. Samsung marked the S23 Ultra end-of-life on its 2023 sheet, which does not tell you what a new-old-stock, refurbished, or used unit costs today. That current, condition-matched S23 Ultra price is not established here. Separately, a Samsung US Fold8 Ultra listing showed a $250 promotion, bringing it to $1,849.99 in the October 5–7, 2026 window. That was a dated offer and may have expired or varied by listing; check the live price before purchasing. Samsung S23 Ultra MSRP sheet · Samsung US Fold8 Ultra listing

Which one should you choose?
- Pick the Galaxy S23 Ultra if an embedded S Pen or 10x optical telephoto zoom is central to how you use a phone. Its 2023 MSRP is not a reliable guide to current second-hand pricing, so compare listings by storage, condition, and market.
- Pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you want the option of an 8-inch main screen and a foldable approach to multitasking, and you are comfortable with its lack of S Pen support and 3x listed optical telephoto reach.
- Before comparing costs, match the details: market, unlocked or carrier model, storage capacity, and device condition. A historical S23 Ultra MSRP cannot be directly treated as a current offer against the Fold8 Ultra’s listed price.
