The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the better fit for long-range zoom, a sharper display and an integrated S Pen; the newer Galaxy S25 FE offers a documented seven-year update commitment and a lower dated U.S. list-price reference. There is no verified current, like-for-like price difference: the available figures are from different dates and do not represent live offers.
How these phones differ in age and product tier
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is an older flagship, announced in the U.S. on February 1, 2023, with U.S. availability beginning February 17. The Galaxy S25 FE is a newer Fan Edition model announced and made available in select markets on September 4, 2025. Their specifications therefore compare different generations and product tiers, not two contemporaneous versions of the same phone. Samsung’s S23 announcement and the S25 FE announcement provide the release context.

Which has the better display?
The S23 Ultra has the larger, higher-resolution display on paper: 6.8 inches at QHD+ versus the S25 FE’s 6.7-inch FHD+. Both specification sheets list a 120Hz refresh rate, though the listed ranges differ: 1–120Hz for the S23 Ultra and 60/120Hz for the S25 FE. Choose the Ultra if screen resolution is a priority; the S25 FE still offers a large display with a high refresh rate.

Camera reach: the S23 Ultra’s clearest hardware advantage
The Ultra has separate 3x and 10x optical telephoto cameras, while the S25 FE has one 3x optical telephoto camera. That gives the S23 Ultra more dedicated optical reach for distant subjects. It also has a 200MP main camera compared with the FE’s 50MP main camera, but megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos.
Samsung describes the S23 Ultra’s 100x Space Zoom as a combination of 10x optical and digital zoom with AI Super Resolution, and warns that image quality may deteriorate beyond 10x. Treat that figure as a zoom feature label, not a promise of optical-quality images at 100x. Both phones list a 12MP front camera; matching resolution does not establish identical results.

Battery, charging and performance
The stated battery capacities are close: 5,000mAh typical for the S23 Ultra and 4,900mAh for the S25 FE. Samsung specifies 45W wired charging for both. For the S23 Ultra, its launch claim of charging to up to 65% in around 30 minutes depends on using a 45W adapter and 5A USB-C cable. Samsung notes battery life varies with conditions. Capacity and charging ratings do not establish real-world endurance, and no comparable battery test or performance benchmark is available here.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe phones use different processors: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy in the S23 Ultra and Exynos 2400 (4nm) in the S25 FE. Without comparative benchmarks, those names alone are not enough to declare one faster for a particular workload.

S Pen and software support
The S23 Ultra has an embedded S Pen, a built-in productivity feature Samsung identified as exclusive to the Ultra among the S23 series. Samsung states that the S25 FE will receive seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That is a specific commitment for the S25 FE; a directly comparable remaining-update end date for the S23 Ultra is not established here, so the figures do not support a precise lifespan comparison.

| Phone and source | Dated U.S. price reference |
|---|---|
| Galaxy S23 Ultra | $1,199.99 starting price at U.S. launch in 2023 |
| Galaxy S25 FE, unlocked 128GB | $649.99 MSRP on Samsung’s U.S. list effective March 2026 |
| Galaxy S25 FE, unlocked 256GB | $709.99 MSRP on Samsung’s U.S. list effective March 2026 |
The dates and basis differ: the S23 Ultra figure is its original launch starting price, while the S25 FE figures are later list prices for particular storage capacities. They are not a valid current-price comparison, and subtracting them would not show what you can save today. Samsung says its listed S25 FE prices may change without notice. The S23 U.S. launch announcement and May 2024 Samsung U.S. list are historical references; the latter marks the unlocked 256GB S23 Ultra SKU as end-of-life at $1,199.99, not as a current offer. The S25 FE list is Samsung’s U.S. MSRP price list effective March 2026.

To work out the actual difference for your purchase, compare offers from the same country and date, with the same storage, unlocked or carrier-locked status, condition, seller and warranty. A used S23 Ultra and a new S25 FE are not equivalent price comparisons. The March 2026 U.S. list excerpt gives S25 FE MSRPs for unlocked 128GB and 256GB models; it does not establish a U.S. 512GB price.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the S23 Ultra if: you want a dedicated 10x optical telephoto camera, the higher-resolution display or an embedded S Pen. Check the specific phone’s condition, storage and live price before buying.
- Choose the S25 FE if: you prefer the newer launch and Samsung’s stated seven-generation OS-upgrade and seven-year security-update commitment. Its dated U.S. MSRP references are lower than the S23 Ultra’s launch starting price, but that does not establish which costs less now.
- Compare live offers carefully if price is decisive: match storage, region, condition, carrier status, seller and warranty rather than comparing an old launch price with a later list price.
