Short answer: the Exynos 2200 Galaxy S23 FE can outperform the older Exynos Galaxy S22 in published Geekbench testing, but that does not make it an across-the-board winner over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Galaxy S22. The FE’s larger chassis and 4,500mAh battery make it the more convincing choice for sustained everyday use, while the S22 remains smaller, lighter and more premium in hand.

Because both phones were sold with different processors by region, verify the exact model before comparing scores or buying. In the United States, both the S23 FE and base S22 use Snapdragon 8 Gen 1; the Exynos-versus-Snapdragon comparison usually means an international Exynos 2200 S23 FE against a U.S.-style Snapdragon S22.

First, identify the processor and region

Samsung sold both models with regional chipset differences. Samsung’s U.S. S23 FE page says the platform can vary by country, and the U.S. S22 specification sheet identifies Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 hardware.

Phone U.S. version International versions
Galaxy S23 FE Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Exynos 2200 in many markets
Galaxy S22 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Exynos 2200 in selected markets

Check the model number in Settings > About phone, on the box, or in the seller’s photos. A listing that calls an alleged U.S. S23 FE “Exynos” should be treated as an import until its model and regional firmware are confirmed. Imported phones also require checks for carrier bands, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM, Samsung Wallet, warranty coverage and update behavior.

  • Fully Unlocked Version. Compatible with Most GSM and CDMA Carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Sprint.

For the rest of this comparison, “Exynos S23 FE” means the international Exynos 2200 model, and “Snapdragon S22” means the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 base Galaxy S22.

What the published benchmarks actually show

Benchmark numbers are measurements from particular units, software builds and test versions, not permanent specifications. Geekbench Browser includes user-submitted results across several generations, so Geekbench 5, Geekbench 6 and later releases must not be combined into one ranking.

Device and test Published result How to interpret it
Exynos Galaxy S23 FE, Geekbench 6.2 1,612 single-core; 4,005 multi-core Reported by Notebookcheck for a particular review unit
Snapdragon Galaxy S22, PhoneArena database 884 single-core; 3,081 multi-core Aggregate database figures, not a controlled head-to-head test
Snapdragon Galaxy S23 FE, PhoneArena database 1,566 single-core; 3,839 multi-core Context showing how review databases can differ
Snapdragon Galaxy S23 FE, Tom’s Guide 1,714 single-core; 4,068 multi-core Review-unit result; it is not an Exynos FE versus Snapdragon S22 test

The Notebookcheck result indicates that an Exynos S23 FE can score materially higher than older Exynos S22 implementations. That does not mean Samsung created a new Exynos 2200. Power limits, cooling hardware, scheduler behavior, firmware, temperature, battery condition, background activity and silicon variation can all change the outcome. The safest description is a better-tuned implementation in a larger phone, not a new processor generation.

PhoneArena’s comparison pages and the Geekbench Browser S22 database are useful for scale, but their user-submitted or aggregate results should not be mixed with a controlled review score. A separate Geekbench comparison page also demonstrates that displayed results depend on the selected test generation and baseline: Geekbench 6 comparison.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, 128GB, Graphite - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • The S23 FE offers a 6.4‑inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 1,450 nits peak brightness plus a wide DCI‑P3 color gamut. That means vibrant, high‑contrast visuals that stay bright and legible even outdoors.

CPU: faster in some tests, not a universal victory

On the cited Geekbench 6.2 result, the Exynos S23 FE’s 1,612 single-core and 4,005 multi-core points are well ahead of the PhoneArena database figures for the Snapdragon S22. However, those sources do not use the same protocol, and PhoneArena’s 884/3,081 figures are an aggregate rather than a laboratory-controlled match.

In ordinary use, a faster score can help with app launches, photo processing, browser scripting and heavy multitasking. The difference is less obvious when opening lightweight apps, scrolling social feeds or making calls. Storage speed, background services, modem activity and thermal state often matter as much as a short CPU run.

Why the same Exynos 2200 can score differently

  • The FE’s larger body can spread heat more effectively.
  • Samsung may use different sustained power limits and clock behavior.
  • Firmware and scheduler versions can change benchmark performance.
  • Battery age, charge level, temperature and background processes affect scores.
  • Individual chips vary slightly, and benchmark apps can receive device-specific optimization.

Samsung’s S22 generation also attracted scrutiny over Game Optimizing Service behavior, with reports that some apps were throttled while benchmark applications ran at higher performance. Old S22 scores should therefore be read with their software state and test conditions in mind, not treated as a timeless capability.

GPU and gaming: peak scores are less important than stability

The Exynos 2200 uses Samsung’s Xclipse graphics architecture; Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 uses Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU. The Exynos platform supports hardware features associated with ray tracing, but a game, driver and regional software build must expose those features before they have practical value.

Available graphics evidence is useful context rather than a direct contest. Tom’s Guide recorded 60.2 frames per second in 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited on a Snapdragon S23 FE review unit, alongside 1,714/4,068 Geekbench 6 results: Tom’s Guide review. PhoneArena lists 3DMark High results of 2,009 for the Snapdragon S22 and 2,208 for the Snapdragon S23 FE in its database, a modest FE advantage that does not establish that the Exynos model wins: PhoneArena review.

For gaming, compare frame-time consistency, temperature, battery drain and performance after the phone warms up. A first-run graphics score can conceal throttling that appears after several minutes. Game compatibility and Vulkan/OpenGL driver behavior can also make two similar scores feel different in a particular title.

A useful sustained-performance test

  1. Update both phones to the same available software generation where possible.
  2. Charge them to the same level, disable power saving and select the same performance profile.
  3. Let both devices return to room temperature.
  4. Run the same benchmark version three to five times and record the first, lowest and average scores, temperature and battery loss.
  5. Play the same demanding game for 20–30 minutes at identical settings.
  6. Record frame-rate stability, frame-time spikes, surface heat, brightness changes and comfort in the hand.

Without that controlled test, it is not defensible to promise a consistent Exynos FE gaming victory over the Snapdragon S22. Neither phone is an ideal sustained high-end gaming device by 2026 standards.

Battery life: the FE has the hardware advantage

Specification or test Galaxy S23 FE Base Galaxy S22
Typical battery capacity 4,500mAh 3,700mAh
Wired charging in the cited specifications 25W 25W
Wireless charging in the cited comparison 15W 15W
PhoneArena browsing database result About 16h 15m About 12h 23m
PhoneArena video database result About 8h 03m About 7h 26m

The PhoneArena figures are laboratory-style database results, not guaranteed screen-on time: PhoneArena comparison. The FE starts with an 800mAh capacity advantage, more room for heat spreading and a newer battery in many purchases. Display brightness, radio conditions, refresh rate, firmware and app mix still determine actual endurance.

SAMSUNG Galaxy S23 5G, US Version, 128GB, Phantom Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.

Battery age is decisive in 2026. A used S22 launched in 2022 may have lost substantial capacity, so a new or lightly used FE can last much longer even if the S22 performed competitively when new. Neither phone charges faster than its supported 25W rate simply because you use a higher-wattage adapter.

Display, size and build

Feature Galaxy S23 FE Base Galaxy S22
Display 6.4-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, adaptive 60–120Hz 6.1-inch FHD+ AMOLED, 120Hz-class adaptive refresh
Weight Approximately 209g Approximately 168.8g
Front and back glass Gorilla Glass 5 Gorilla Glass Victus+
Frame Not the same premium Armor Aluminum construction specified for the S22 Armor Aluminum
Water resistance IP68 IP68

Samsung’s hardware references are the S23 FE specifications and the U.S. S22 specification sheet. The S22 is easier to use one-handed and noticeably lighter in a pocket. The FE gives you more viewing area and battery, but it is closer to a large midrange or S22 Plus-like size than to a compact flagship.

Cameras: the FE offers reach, not an automatic image-quality win

Camera Galaxy S23 FE Galaxy S22
Main 50MP 50MP
Ultrawide 12MP 12MP
Telephoto 8MP, 3x optical 10MP, 3x optical
Front 10MP 10MP

The FE’s 3x telephoto gives it useful framing flexibility, while the S22’s telephoto has higher nominal resolution. Samsung lists the FE camera system in its official specifications and the S22 system in its U.S. specification sheet.

Do not infer a universal camera winner from megapixels or one gallery. Compare daylight detail, night processing, motion capture, skin tones, white balance, 3x image quality, stabilization, camera launch speed and processing time using the same firmware and scenes. PhoneArena found the Exynos FE camera capable, but its review primarily compared the phone with other S23-family devices rather than directly with the Snapdragon S22.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE 5G, US Version, 256GB, Graphite - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • The S23 FE offers a 6.4‑inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 1,450 nits peak brightness plus a wide DCI‑P3 color gamut. That means vibrant, high‑contrast visuals that stay bright and legible even outdoors.

Software age, connectivity and ownership risk

The S23 FE launched in October 2023; the S22 launched in 2022. The FE therefore starts from a later device generation and will generally have more remaining support, but the exact final Android and security-update dates depend on Samsung’s current policy for the model and country. Do not treat a certification document as proof of a model-specific support deadline.

For an imported FE, confirm 4G and 5G bands, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM, Samsung Wallet, call-recording behavior, regional CSC, bootloader status and warranty. U.S.-specific S22 features such as mmWave, Sub-6, C-Band and eSIM cannot automatically be assumed on an imported variant.

Which phone should you buy?

Choose the Exynos Galaxy S23 FE when

  • You value battery capacity and sustained everyday performance over pocketability.
  • You want a 6.4-inch display and a newer device generation.
  • You want a dedicated 3x telephoto camera.
  • The FE is new or has clearly healthier battery condition than the available S22.
  • You can verify the imported model’s carrier compatibility and regional services.

Choose the Snapdragon Galaxy S22 when

  • One-handed use, low weight and compact dimensions are priorities.
  • You prefer the glass-and-metal feel and Gorilla Glass Victus+ construction.
  • The phone is in excellent condition with documented battery health.
  • It is substantially cheaper or offers known carrier compatibility in your market.

Avoid both when

  • You need consistently high frame rates in demanding 2026 games.
  • The used S22’s battery health is unknown.
  • An imported FE lacks confirmed bands, VoLTE, warranty or regional-service support.
  • The price is close to a newer Galaxy model with more efficient silicon and longer support.
  • You are buying solely on a single benchmark score.

Because these are older models now commonly sold as used, refurbished, imported or remaining stock, compare the live price with newer Galaxy phones and inspect condition before buying. Cases are model-specific: an S22 case will not fit the larger S23 FE, and generic listings that omit the chipset or model number are high risk.
