Samsung, meanwhile, documents an ultrawide rear camera, optical image stabilization (OIS), microSD expansion and a six-generation OS-upgrade commitment. Neither spec sheet proves which phone lasts longer, takes better photos or feels faster in daily use. Regional Redmi variants also differ, so check the exact model and box contents before buying.
How the India-listed specifications compare
The figures below are drawn from Samsung’s India product listing and Xiaomi’s India specifications page unless another source is identified. They describe listed hardware, not independent test results.

Which phone has the better battery?
On the India listings, the Redmi Note 17 5G has the higher stated capacity: 8,000 mAh typical against 6,000 mAh typical for the M47. Xiaomi also lists 45 W wired charging and 22.5 W wired reverse charging for its India model. Samsung lists 45 W fast charging for the M47.

Capacity alone does not establish real-world battery life. Screen size and brightness, network conditions, software, workload and other factors affect runtime, and no direct independent head-to-head battery test is established here. Xiaomi’s UK page lists a different 7,700 mAh typical battery, so do not apply the India figure to every regional model.
Camera differences are about hardware, not proven photo quality
Samsung’s India listing gives the M47 three rear-camera resolutions—50 MP, 5 MP and 2 MP—and identifies OIS on a rear camera. The 91mobiles comparison labels the Redmi configuration as a 50 MP primary plus 2 MP rear camera. That points to different listed camera hardware, but megapixel counts and OIS by themselves cannot show which phone produces better photos or video.

Front-camera figures vary by source and region: Samsung lists 12 MP, Xiaomi UK lists 16 MP, while 91mobiles gives 8 MP for the Redmi comparison entry. Treat that discrepancy as a reason to confirm the exact model’s specification page, rather than assuming one front-camera figure applies everywhere. Samsung lists rear video recording up to 4K at 30 frames per second; the cited Redmi material does not establish a directly comparable video mode.

Display
Samsung specifies a 1080 × 2340 FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi UK describes its Redmi screen as a 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED/OLED display; 91mobiles reports 120 Hz for the comparison entry. The available specifications do not provide a controlled brightness or image-quality comparison, so they are not enough to declare a display winner.

Storage and processor
The captured Samsung India listing is for an 8 GB/128 GB configuration and says storage can be expanded by microSD up to 2 TB. The cited comparison reports Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and UFS 3.1 for the M47, and UFS 2.2 for the Redmi; Xiaomi UK’s specifications page names Snapdragon 4 Gen 4. These source- and region-specific details do not replace performance testing, and the Samsung storage configuration should not be assumed to represent every variant.
Software updates
Samsung states that the M47 will receive six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, counted from the first global launch date; Samsung says the policy may change. The four OS-upgrade years and six security-update years attributed to the Redmi by 91mobiles are secondary-source claims, not a duration confirmed on the captured Xiaomi India specification page. Buyers who prioritize a documented support commitment should verify the current policy for the exact Redmi model before purchase.

India price difference: treat comparison-site figures as a snapshot
When captured on October 7, 2026, 91mobiles displayed ₹35,999 for the Samsung Galaxy M47 5G and ₹27,999 for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 5G—a displayed gap of ₹8,000. These were marketplace-linked reference prices, not confirmed official prices, and may change with seller, offers and memory configuration. Check the live price for the exact variant and retailer before deciding that one phone is cheaper.
Check the charger and box contents for your region
Samsung says the M47’s 45 W fast charger is sold separately. Xiaomi’s India listing includes a 45 W adapter, protective case and pre-applied screen protector in the package contents captured for that region. Xiaomi UK’s page instead says a power adapter is not included and recommends a 45 W PD-compatible or official adapter. Confirm the package contents for the sale region and exact listing; a charger included in one market should not be assumed to come with the same model elsewhere.

Which one should you choose?
- Consider the Redmi Note 17 5G if the India-listed 8,000 mAh capacity, reverse charging, or the listed India package contents matter most to you. Confirm the local variant because Xiaomi lists different battery and adapter details in the UK.
- Consider the Galaxy M47 5G if Samsung’s stated six-generation OS-upgrade and six-year security-update commitment, microSD expansion, or its listed ultrawide/OIS camera hardware better fits your priorities.
- Compare the actual checkout price for matching memory configurations and include the cost of a compatible charger if your chosen regional box omits one.
The available specifications do not establish an overall winner: battery capacity is not tested runtime, camera specifications are not sample comparisons, and processor names are not benchmarks. Choose by the features you will use and the verified local price, rather than treating a spec-sheet lead as proof of better everyday performance.
