Samsung’s support page also lists an Oreo user manual covering the SM-G570 and SM-G610 families, with an English manual modification date of September 27, 2018. A manual’s date confirms Oreo-specific documentation existed; it does not establish when an individual carrier or country began distributing the update. Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime support page.
Why your model number and region matter
“J5 Prime” and “J7 Prime” are retail names, not enough to identify compatible firmware. The records above apply specifically to SM-G570F and SM-G610F. Other regional or carrier versions can have different software histories. Samsung notes that update details may differ by model, country and service provider.
- On the phone, open Settings → About phone and note the complete model number.
- Open Settings → About phone → Software information and record the Android version, build number, security patch level and service-provider software version or CSC, if shown.
- Compare those details with the update record for the exact model and relevant region. Do not treat a firmware file for another G570- or G610-family model as interchangeable.
Samsung’s firmware records show why a date needs context: the J5 Prime record includes Oreo builds from 2019 and 2020, while the cited J7 Prime record is dated April 2019. Those entries document particular builds and patches, not one synchronized global launch.

What Oreo changed—and what it did not establish
Android Oreo introduced system-level changes such as notification channels and controls, background-app and battery-management changes, autofill support, and picture-in-picture where supported. The visible features on these phones depended on the Samsung Experience build and region; not every Oreo feature was necessarily exposed or supported in the same way on every variant.
Oreo documentation is not evidence that either phone received Samsung’s later One UI interface. The specific firmware records also show that security patches accompanied particular builds; they do not indicate that these phones remained current with security updates through 2026.

How to check for an official update
- Back up important photos, contacts, messages and files.
- Charge the phone or connect it to power, and use a reliable Wi-Fi connection.
- Open Settings → Software update. On some older software versions, the route may instead be Settings → About device → Software update.
- Choose the option to check for or download updates manually. Labels can vary by software version and region.
- Install only an update offered for that phone. After the restart, check Settings → About phone → Software information → Android version and confirm the build and patch level.

If no update appears
A missing OTA is not, by itself, proof that the phone was excluded. Consider these possibilities before taking further action:

- Different variant or CSC: An imported phone, carrier model or dual-SIM variant may follow a different update path than the SM-G570F or SM-G610F record cited above.
- Already on the last offered firmware: The phone may have no newer update available for its own market or service provider.
- Staged, delayed or withdrawn release: A carrier or regional release can arrive later, or be paused, than another market’s firmware.
- Download conditions: Low free storage, an unreliable connection, insufficient battery or an update-service problem can prevent downloading or installation.
- Modified software: Root access, a nonstandard boot state or other software changes can interfere with an OTA and complicate recovery.
Try again on a stable Wi-Fi connection with the phone charged and adequate free space. If the model, CSC or software state is unclear, or an update repeatedly fails, contact Samsung support or a qualified repair provider rather than guessing at a firmware package.

Manual flashing is an advanced recovery or maintenance route, not the recommended first response to a missing OTA. A firmware index for SM-G570F lists multiple builds, including releases from different Android generations; that variety illustrates why matching a phone by its retail name alone is unsafe. - Verify the complete model number, regional or carrier CSC, and bootloader/binary revision against the package.
- Back up data. Manual flashing or recovery steps may erase it, even though a normal OTA is not intended to.
- Use a trusted, correct package and follow the relevant device-specific procedure without interrupting the process.
- Understand that a mismatch can cause failed verification, boot loops, data loss or loss of network functionality.
Do not flash SM-G570F firmware onto an SM-G570M, SM-G570Y or another variant without authoritative compatibility confirmation. Likewise, do not confuse a J7 Prime with a J7 Pro or J7 Prime 2. If you cannot confidently verify model, CSC and binary revision, use official support or a qualified repair provider.
Is Oreo enough for a J5 Prime or J7 Prime in 2026?
That depends on what you need from the phone. An official Oreo update can be useful if the device works and supports the apps you rely on, but it does not make an older phone a current security platform. App compatibility and service requirements vary, so check the specific apps you need rather than assuming an upgrade will make them work.

- Keep using it if it works reliably, meets your app needs and you accept its older software and security limitations.
- Seek repair or support if an update failure, boot loop, unclear CSC or important data makes experimentation risky. Repair cost may not be worthwhile for an older device.
- Consider replacement if you need current security patches, modern network compatibility, better performance or apps the phone cannot run. A replacement choice requires current, separate buying research.
