Samsung describes a mixed system: some features process data on the phone, while others send inputs to Samsung for cloud processing. Add feature-specific account requirements, uneven availability, and disclosures that need to be read in context, and the practical question is not whether to love or reject AI. It is whether the particular tools you use are worth their requirements.
Galaxy AI is a collection of features, not one processing mode
Samsung Knox describes Galaxy AI as machine-learning and generative features processed both on-device and in the cloud. Which route applies depends on the feature. That means “Galaxy AI is local” and “Galaxy AI sends everything to the cloud” are both misleading summaries.

Samsung’s U.S. Privacy Notice says some services process data solely on the device. For features that require collection, Samsung says it will explain the inputs and purposes before first use and seek consent. It also says users can check the relevant app or service settings for an on-device processing option. That does not establish that every feature has such an option.

Examples of inputs Samsung says may be processed outside the phone
- Writing Assist: text you enter or select.
- Note Assist: images, text, and voice recordings.
- Transcript Assist: call and voice-recording transcripts.
- Browsing Assist: webpage content and history, along with prior questions and answers.
- Photo Assist: selected images and their content.
- Creative Studio: selected images and text.
These examples come from Samsung’s U.S. Privacy Notice; they are not a claim that every use of every named feature sends data off-device. Check the notice shown for the feature you intend to use.

What Samsung says about privacy and AI training
Samsung’s public statements use different scopes. In a November 4, 2025 Newsroom article, Samsung said: “No matter what feature or what settings you choose, personal data is never stored long-term or used for AI training — whether processed on-device or on the cloud.” That is Samsung’s stated assurance, not independent verification. The same article says users can disable online processing for AI features, while noting that Generative Edit requires a network connection and Samsung Account login.
Samsung Knox’s enterprise administration documentation makes a more specific distinction: on-device features do not use data for model training, while cloud-processed features may be used for model training. The two statements should not be flattened into a blanket guarantee. They come from sources with different scopes and wording; Knox’s statement is in enterprise documentation, and Samsung’s Newsroom statement is a company-wide public assurance. For a decision about a particular feature, the feature-specific notice and settings on your device matter.

The Knox documentation, last updated September 4, 2026, describes a policy to restrict cloud-dependent processing and says administrators can block all or selected features on managed devices. Those are enterprise controls; they are not evidence that every consumer has the same policy interface.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAccount requirements and availability vary by feature
Samsung’s U.S. notice lists Samsung Account requirements for several feature families, including Samsung Notes and Voice Recorder features, Web Assist Summary, translations, Interpreter, Generative Edit, Call Assist, and Chat Assist. This does not mean every Galaxy AI feature requires an account.

Availability also varies by country and device. Before relying on a feature, check your exact phone model, operating-system version, market, and the current feature-specific terms. A feature shown in a demonstration or available on one Galaxy model may not be available to you in the same way.
“Free” language is not a promise about every future AI service
Android Central reported in 2026 that Samsung’s updated wording says Samsung-provided basic Galaxy AI features are free, while enhanced future options and third-party AI services may be subject to separate terms. That is a secondary report of changing terms, not a guarantee that every AI feature or future service will remain free. Check Samsung’s current terms for the feature and market you care about rather than relying on older “free through 2025” wording.

Decide whether the useful features justify the friction
Samsung’s emphasis on AI is unlikely to disappear: at the February 2026 Galaxy S26 showcase, Samsung device-experience CEO TM Roh said, “AI must become part of our infrastructure.” That is a statement of company strategy, not proof that every feature will be useful to every owner. Analyst Paolo Pescatore, quoted by the Associated Press at the same event, offered a useful personal test: AI should be “boringly useful” and save time day to day.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

- List the features you use regularly. Separate daily conveniences from features you tried once and forgot.
- Check their processing options. For each feature, look at its in-app or service settings and notice whether an on-device option is offered. Do not assume one setting governs every AI feature.
- Count account-dependent features. Decide whether signing in to a Samsung Account for the features you value is acceptable to you.
- Verify your actual availability. Confirm the feature works on your model, OS version, and in your country, using current feature terms.
- Weigh value against complexity. If the features reliably save time and their controls and requirements feel manageable, staying may make sense. If the account, cloud-processing, or settings burden outweighs their everyday value, reconsidering the ecosystem is reasonable.
This is an individual trade-off, not a feature-by-feature ranking of Samsung against another phone maker. The available evidence does not establish that one rival handles every comparable feature better.
