Which phone’s screen and design fit your use?
Choose the A57 for a familiar phone shape
The A57 is a conventional smartphone. It avoids the distinct folded-and-unfolded format and large inner screen of the Fold8. Samsung describes its display as Super AMOLED+ with Vision Booster.

Choose the Fold8 for a phone-tablet-style screen
The Fold8 pairs a 5.5-inch cover display with a 7.6-inch main display. The larger canvas can be useful for reading, video, games, or multitasking, while the cover display is available when the phone is folded. Consider whether the folded size and feel suit your daily handling; the larger unfolded screen is the defining trade-off, not a universal upgrade.

The A57 has three rear focal-length options: wide, ultra-wide, and macro. The Fold8 has two rear cameras, wide and ultra-wide. Tom’s Guide notes that the Fold8 has no dedicated telephoto camera. A higher megapixel count alone does not establish which phone takes better photos; camera quality cannot be concluded from these specifications alone.

Battery capacity and runtime claims
The A57’s typical battery capacity is 5,000mAh; the Fold8’s is 4,800mAh typical, with a 4,660mAh rated capacity. Capacity is only one factor in runtime, and Samsung’s claims use different measures: up to two days for the A57 versus up to 26 hours of continuous video playback for the Fold8 under Samsung’s stated internal test conditions. They are not comparable endurance-test results.
In Tom’s Guide’s own Fold8 test, continuous web surfing over 5G lasted 12 hours and 19 minutes. That is the publication’s result under its test conditions, not a guaranteed everyday runtime or a direct comparison with the A57.

Durability, software support, and charging
Water and dust resistance
Samsung lists the A57 at IP68 and the Fold8 at IP48. The Fold8’s rating should not be read as equivalent dust protection to IP68. Samsung’s Fold8 footnote describes freshwater submersion testing and cautions against beach or pool use. Treat the foldable design as a reason to handle and care for the screen thoughtfully; the cited sources do not establish a comparative failure rate.
Software support
Samsung promises the A57 up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. The cited Fold8 specification table lists Android 17 and One UI 9 but does not state a support duration, so no duration comparison is established here.

Charging
Samsung says the A57 can reach up to 60% in around 30 minutes with Super Fast Charging 2.0. The Fold8 supports up to 45W wired and 20W wireless charging; its 45W adapter is sold separately. Check local adapter and cable compatibility if you need to buy one.
Which Samsung phone should you buy?
- Pick the A57 if your priority is a much lower starting price, a conventional design, a three-camera rear array including macro, IP68, or Samsung’s stated A57 software-support commitment.
- Consider the Fold8 if you will make regular use of its 7.6-inch inner display, want a foldable phone with a cover screen, and consider that larger-screen format worth the substantial additional cost.
- Compare carefully if battery life is decisive. The stated capacities and manufacturer claims are measured differently, and the available third-party battery-test result here is for the Fold8 only.
Neither phone is simply the better choice on specifications alone: the A57 prioritizes price and a standard smartphone format, while the Fold8’s central advantage is its folding large-screen design.
