The Galaxy S24 FE has the more complete feature set: it adds a 3x optical telephoto camera, wireless charging, an adaptive-refresh display and a longer stated software-support commitment. The Galaxy A55 counters with a higher typical battery capacity and microSD expansion. Which is the better buy depends on the current price in your country; Samsung’s UK purchase pages list both as no longer available, so historical launch prices are not a reliable guide to today’s price difference.

The S24 FE has the larger screen by 0.1 inch and Samsung specifies adaptive 60/120Hz refresh. The A55’s 6.6-inch screen supports a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Both are FHD+ AMOLED displays, but the published specifications alone do not establish a winner for brightness, color accuracy or outdoor visibility.

Camera comparison: the S24 FE adds optical zoom
Rear cameras
Both phones list a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide. The S24 FE’s 8MP telephoto camera provides 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization, giving it a dedicated camera for distant subjects. The A55 lists a 5MP third rear camera rather than a telephoto lens. That makes the FE the more versatile choice on paper if optical zoom matters; megapixel counts alone cannot establish overall photo quality.
Selfie cameras
Samsung lists a 32MP front camera for the A55 and a 10MP front camera for the S24 FE. The higher resolution number does not, by itself, prove that the A55 takes better selfies.

Battery capacity and charging
The A55’s typical battery capacity is 5,000mAh, compared with 4,700mAh for the S24 FE. Capacity is not a battery-life test: screen settings, network conditions, software and usage affect how long either phone lasts, and no directly comparable measured endurance result is established here.
Samsung lists up to 25W wired charging for both models. The S24 FE also supports fast wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, which lets it share power wirelessly with compatible devices. Samsung’s reviewed A55 specifications do not list wireless charging.

Performance, storage and durability
Performance
Samsung lists the Exynos 1480 for the A55 and Exynos 2400e (4nm) for the S24 FE. Those chip names identify the hardware, but without comparable benchmark or hands-on results they are not a quantified measure of how much faster one phone feels in a particular task.
Storage
The A55 is listed with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage and supports microSD cards up to 1TB; the card is sold separately. The S24 FE is listed in 128GB and 256GB configurations, with no expandable storage specified in Samsung’s launch information. Choose the A55 if removable storage is important to your setup.

Durability ratings
The S24 FE carries an IP68 rating, while the A55 carries IP67. In Samsung’s stated laboratory conditions, these correspond to up to 1.5m and 1m of freshwater immersion, respectively, for 30 minutes. They are test ratings, not a guarantee against damage in every real-world situation.

Software support: the S24 FE has the longer commitment
Samsung states that the A55 is eligible for up to four generations of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates. For the S24 FE, Samsung’s 2024 launch announcement promises seven OS generations and seven years of security updates from global launch. Update delivery timing can vary, but the published commitment is longer for the FE.
