Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →G DATA is a credible antivirus choice in 2026, but the right tier depends on your devices and whether you need a firewall and ransomware defenses. Internet Security 25.5 earned top or near-top marks in recent AV-TEST rounds, while AV-Comparatives recorded 391 blocked cases out of 400 (97.8%) in its February–May 2026 real-world test. That same AV-Comparatives report flagged false alarms, so these results are evidence of strong protection under defined conditions—not a guarantee for every PC.
Which G DATA plan should you buy?
G DATA’s consumer lineup has three tiers. Antivirus is the Windows-only entry plan. Internet Security extends coverage to macOS, Android and iOS and adds the controls most relevant to higher-risk PCs, including a firewall and ransomware protection. Total Security adds tuning, encryption and USB-access controls.
| Plan | Displayed starting price | Supported platforms listed by G DATA | Included capabilities |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antivirus | $29.95 | Windows | Malware scanning, phishing/browser protection, automatic updates, support, email protection, secure online banking and shopping |
| Internet Security | $39.95 | Windows, macOS, Android, iOS | Everything in Antivirus, plus protection against critical vulnerabilities, ransomware, tampered USB devices and a firewall |
| Total Security | $49.95 | Windows, macOS, Android, iOS | Everything in Internet Security, plus Performance-Tuner, local-data encryption and USB-device access control |
Prices are the vendor’s displayed starting figures, not a promise of your local or renewal price. At checkout, confirm currency, device count, subscription term, taxes, promotions and renewal terms on the official G DATA feature-comparison page.
When Antivirus is enough
Choose Antivirus if you only need protection for Windows devices and do not require a firewall or the additional ransomware and removable-device controls. It still lists phishing protection, email scanning, automatic updates and secure banking and shopping features.

Why Internet Security is the practical default
Internet Security is the stronger fit for a mixed-device household or anyone who wants the added firewall, ransomware defense, vulnerability protection and tampered-USB safeguards. Those additions address threats that a basic malware scanner does not cover as directly.
Who benefits from Total Security
Total Security is worthwhile when its extras match a specific need: encrypting local data, restricting USB-device access or using the built-in Performance-Tuner. If you will not use those tools, Internet Security provides the same listed platform coverage and core security additions for less.

What independent tests say about G DATA in 2026
Independent laboratories tested specific products and versions. Their scores describe those builds under controlled samples, hardware and interaction rules; they do not certify every G DATA edition or every real-world configuration.
AV-TEST: perfect February result, small performance deduction in June
AV-TEST lists G DATA Internet Security 25.5 with 6/6 protection, 6/6 performance and 6/6 usability in its February 2026 round. In June 2026, the same displayed version again scored 6/6 protection and 6/6 usability, while performance fell to 5.5/6. Protection measures how well the product detected the test threats, performance reflects its impact in the lab’s workload, and usability covers false warnings and other user-facing issues in that test.

AV-Comparatives: 97.8% protection with a false-alarm caveat
AV-Comparatives’ Real-World Protection Test for February–May 2026 used 400 cases. Its summary grouped Fortect, G Data and Sophos at 391 blocked cases and a 97.8% protection rate. The report defines that rate as the percentage blocked plus half of the cases in which the user would have had to decide whether to allow an action.
Rank #4
- THREAT DETECTION – Stay one step ahead. Suspicious links, risky sites, viruses, and scams, caught automatically before they reach you.
- PERSONAL INFO PROTECTION – Keep your personal info safer. Identity monitoring watches for your exposed info and tells you what to do about it.
- SECURE CONNECTIONS – Just a few easy clicks, and we'll automatically protect your info on public Wi‑Fi, every time you connect.
- GUIDED ACTION – Know what matters and what to do next. Clear alerts and simple guidance make it easy to take action.
- MORE THAN ANTIVIRUS – Scam protection, identity monitoring, VPN, web protection, and antivirus work together to protect you, all in one place.
The same report lists G DATA among products downgraded because of wrongly blocked sites or files. That matters if you regularly use niche websites, unsigned utilities or unusual business software: a high block rate can coexist with an inconvenient false-positive burden. The test’s aim is to simulate user conditions, but its exact configuration, samples and user-interaction rules determine the result. Read the full methodology and award note in the AV-Comparatives report.
Performance testing on a low-end PC
AV-Comparatives’ April 2026 low-end performance test included G DATA Total Security 25.5. It ran on 64-bit Windows 11 with an Intel Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and an SSD, repeating file and application operations. The published material establishes the test scope and conditions but does not provide a G DATA score that can be responsibly quoted here. AV-Comparatives cautions that the findings apply to the precise versions tested and that software conflicts and system configurations can change the experience. The report is available as the April 2026 Consumer Performance Test.

Features, requirements and trial
Cross-platform coverage
G DATA lists Antivirus for Windows only. Internet Security and Total Security list Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Feature parity can differ by operating system, so verify the exact app and functions for each device before buying a multi-device term.
System requirements
The vendor lists Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and 7 SP1 with at least 2 GB of RAM; macOS 11 or later; Android 8 or later; and iOS 17 or later. Internet access is required for installation and signature or software updates. Confirm current requirements for your specific product and operating system on G DATA’s consumer page.
Thirty-day full-version trial
G DATA advertises a free 30-day full-version trial. A trial is useful for checking boot times, application compatibility, notifications and false alarms on your own setup before committing to a subscription.
How to interpret the pricing
The displayed US starting prices are $29.95 for Antivirus, $39.95 for Internet Security and $49.95 for Total Security. A separate Stiftung Warentest listing dated 26 February 2026 observed an approximate first-year, single-seat Internet Security price of €40, based on a price checked on 23 January 2026. That figure is not a universal European or renewal price; regional taxes, promotions, device counts and recurring billing can change the total. The Stiftung listing does not publish a detailed test rating on its public page, so no score can be inferred from it: Stiftung Warentest G DATA listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStrengths and limitations for everyday users
Strengths
- Recent AV-TEST rounds show full protection and usability marks, with only a half-point performance deduction in June 2026.
- AV-Comparatives’ 97.8% real-world protection rate indicates strong blocking in a 400-case test.
- Internet Security adds a firewall, ransomware defense, vulnerability protection and removable-device safeguards rather than only cosmetic extras.
- Internet Security and Total Security cover the four major platforms listed by G DATA.
Limitations
- AV-Comparatives recorded a false-alarm-based downgrade, so wrongly blocked legitimate files or sites remain a consideration.
- Performance outcomes depend on the tested build, operating system, hardware, installed software and workload.
- The basic Antivirus tier is Windows-only and lacks the firewall and ransomware features listed for Internet Security and Total Security.
- Displayed prices may differ from local checkout and renewal costs.
Is G DATA antivirus any good?
Yes—G DATA is a defensible 2026 option, especially Internet Security for Windows users who want more than basic scanning. Its recent independent protection results are strong, and its feature tiers are clearly differentiated. The sensible decision is to match the plan to your platforms and controls, then use the 30-day trial to check performance and false alarms on your own hardware. Do not choose solely from one laboratory percentage, and review renewal pricing before completing checkout.
