The Fujifilm X100V is a compact, photography-first camera for people who want an APS-C sensor, a bright 35mm-equivalent lens, direct physical controls and a choice between optical and electronic viewing. Its defining compromise is also its clearest buying test: the 23mm lens does not zoom, and the camera has no image stabilization. That makes it compelling for everyday, travel and street photography when you enjoy working at one angle of view, but a poor fit if you need distant reach, stabilized handheld video or a flexible all-purpose zoom.
What the Fujifilm X100V is
Fujifilm specifies an approximately 26.1-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor measuring 23.5 × 15.6 mm, paired with a fixed 23mm F2 lens. Its field of view is equivalent to a 35mm lens on a full-frame camera. The lens cannot be removed or zoomed; framing changes by moving yourself or cropping later.

This combination makes the X100V a self-contained camera rather than a compact interchangeable-lens system. The 35mm-equivalent view is broad enough for many street scenes, travel, environmental portraits and everyday photographs, while the F2 maximum aperture gives room to work in lower light and separate a subject from its background. It is not a substitute for a telephoto lens: if you often photograph distant wildlife, sports or stage subjects, the fixed view will be restrictive. Fujifilm’s X100V specifications list the sensor and lens details.

The hybrid viewfinder is a distinctive part of the X100V experience. You can compose through an optical viewfinder (OVF) or an electronic viewfinder (EVF), choosing the style that suits the scene. Fujifilm specifies the OVF at approximately 0.52× magnification and roughly 95% frame coverage; its frame lines show the photographed area while leaving some view beyond it. That extra surrounding view can help when anticipating movement at the edge of a street scene.
#1 Best Overall
- Great photography every day, everywhere -X100V features a newly designed, incorporated 23 millimeter F2 lens, ensuring you preserve those special moments at maximum resolution with minimal distortion. It also offers an improved close focusing performance compared to previous X100 models, and, for the first time in the X100 line, you can keep making images even in the toughest conditions when you attach the optional adapter ring with the weather-sealing protection lens (sold separately). This outstanding lens retains the same slim line design as other X100 models, so it retains compatibility with existing WCL and TCL lens attachments.
- Designed for quality and speed - From fleeting holiday moments and family celebrations to hard-hitting visual stories and ever-changing city streets, X100V has been designed to always deliver exceptional image and video quality. Creating a tool this capable takes powerful technology; That’s why Fujifilm’s state-of-the-art X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X-processor 4 combination sits at this camera’s core. Pairing this exceptional, 26.1MP, back-side illuminated sensor and powerful quad-core CPU results in incredible quality, wide dynamic range, lightning-fast processing and precision AF performance, right down to -5EV.
- Two ways to see an Image -To truly convey the magic of a scene, you need to be immersed in the moment and X100V’s advanced hybrid viewfinder gives you everything you need to do exactly that. At the flick of a switch, you can change between the X100V’s 0.52x magnification optical viewfinder (OVF), which uses parallax-correcting frame lines to let you see outside the shot, and it’s 3.69M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF), which gives you a real-time preview of your exposure. You can even get the best of both worlds by using the electric rangefinder function (ERF) to activate a mini EVF display within the OVF window.
- Frame the perfect image -X100V has been specifically tailored for photographers who are never without a camera by their side and always ready to frame a moment. The two-way, tilting LCD touchscreen is a perfect example of Fujifilm’s tailored design. This new technology within the X100V offers quick, intuitive controls and makes struggling to frame images from difficult angles a thing of the past. Furthermore, when folded flat it fits seamlessly into the camera’s slim line body, and in doing so, this sophisticated LCD touchscreen finds the perfect balance between functionality and portability.
The 0.5-inch OLED EVF is specified at 3.69 million dots. The rear monitor is a 3-inch, 1.62-million-dot tilting touchscreen. The tilt can make low- or high-angle compositions easier without requiring you to hold the camera at eye level. See Fujifilm’s viewfinder and monitor specifications.
Image quality and everyday trade-offs
In its review updated August 11, 2026, RTINGS describes the X100V’s image quality and build quality as impressive, and regards it as a strong carry-everywhere or street-photography option for enthusiasts. It reports good RAW detail and dynamic range, with more moderate noise handling as ISO rises. Those are the reviewer’s assessments, not a promise that every image or shooting condition will produce the same result. Read RTINGS’ X100V review.

- Movies on the move: The X100V allows you to explore a whole new world of image making with the ability to create stunning 4K video at 30 frames per second. Additionally, super slow-motion footage can be recorded using the camera’s full HD/120p setting, so you can relive details that would otherwise be missed by the naked eye. This professional-level quality is backed up by Fujifilm’s outstanding color reproduction technology and unique selection of in-camera film simulation modes, while those who need more fidelity can record 10-bit, 4:2:2 color via the HDMI port.
The fixed lens is a creative constraint as much as a limitation. Working at one focal length encourages a consistent way of seeing and avoids carrying a lens collection, but you cannot zoom to reframe from where you stand. The camera also has no image stabilization. RTINGS notes that its ergonomics may feel cramped, so button and grip comfort are worth checking in person, especially if you have larger hands or expect long sessions.
Video: capable for short clips, not long takes
The X100V records 4K video up to 30 frames per second. Fujifilm specifies recording to SD as 4:2:0 8-bit and HDMI output as 4:2:2 10-bit, with listed frame rates including 29.97P, 25P, 24P and 23.98P. RTINGS reports that internal 4K recording is limited to 10 minutes per take and that the camera can overheat during extended recording. Its lack of stabilization is another drawback for handheld footage.

That makes video useful as an occasional extra—short clips or B-roll—rather than a strong reason to choose this model. If you need long continuous takes, stabilized handheld shooting or more advanced video options, compare newer hybrid cameras, including the X100VI. RTINGS’ test review covers the recording limits; Fujifilm’s format details are on its specifications page.

The X100VI is the X100V’s successor. RTINGS’ comparison identifies the newer camera’s higher-resolution sensor, updated autofocus, in-body image stabilization and 6.2K recording as key additions. The core concept remains similar: a compact camera with a built-in lens, rather than an interchangeable-lens setup. Choose based on the capabilities you will use, not simply on which generation is newer.

The comparison reflects details reported by RTINGS’ X100V-versus-X100VI comparison. If stabilization, newer autofocus or higher-resolution video matter to your work, the successor addresses those specific gaps. If they do not, a well-kept X100V may still suit the single-focal-length style; whether it is a good value depends on the actual local asking price and condition.

Fujifilm Imaging Systems announced on February 20, 2024 that X100V sales in Japan would end as the X100VI arrived. That notice is specific to Japan; it does not establish stock or discontinuation status in every other market. Used listings and regional availability can change, so assess the camera and seller in front of you rather than assuming a particular price or supply situation. Read Fujifilm Imaging Systems’ Japan notice.
- Test the lens and controls: Check that the lens extends and retracts normally on power-up and shut-down, and that focus, aperture and shutter controls respond as expected.
- Inspect the viewfinder and screen: Look for display faults, damage, dust or marks that affect composition or viewing.
- Check the body and weather protection: RTINGS describes the camera as partially weather-sealed. It names the AR-X100 adapter ring and PRF-49 protection filter as required for full lens weather-sealing; this does not make the body waterproof. Inspect seals and accessories, and do not treat weather sealing as permission to expose a used camera to water.
- Confirm what is included: Fujifilm specifies the NP-W126S rechargeable battery. The camera has one SD card slot compliant with UHS-I and supports SD, SDHC and SDXC cards. Verify battery model and card compatibility rather than assuming accessories come with a listing.
- Evaluate the transaction: Review the seller’s reputation, return terms, condition description and included accessories before comparing the asking price with alternatives.
Fujifilm’s US support page lists firmware Ver. 3.01. The update notes say that moving from Ver. 3.00 fixes a bug that could leave the lens at its near-end position on power-up, as well as a rare pairing-registration problem that could freeze the camera. Check the installed version and follow Fujifilm’s current instructions before updating; do not interrupt the update process. Check Fujifilm’s X100V firmware page.
