The Fujifilm X-T4 remains a strong hybrid camera for photographers who want in-body stabilization, quick still capture and capable 4K video in one APS-C body. Its image quality is broadly similar to the older X-T3, according to DPReview, while stabilized video is a particular strength. Autofocus is improved over its predecessor but is not uniformly as reliable as the best rivals. Fujifilm now lists the X-T4 as discontinued, so a purchase today means checking used or remaining-stock listings rather than assuming current retail availability.
What is the Fujifilm X-T4?
Announced on February 26, 2020, the X-T4 is a 26.1-megapixel APS-C mirrorless camera with Fujifilm X-mount lens compatibility. Fujifilm’s launch announcement described it as the first X-T series model with in-body image stabilization.

How good is the X-T4 for photography?
Image quality and stabilization
DPReview found the X-T4’s image quality essentially similar to the X-T3’s. The major practical addition is stabilization in the camera body, which can help reduce blur from camera movement when taking stills at slower shutter speeds. Fujifilm rates the five-axis system at up to 6.5 stops under its stated CIPA method. That is a standardized rating, not a guarantee: results vary with the lens, focal length, technique and shooting conditions.
Continuous shooting and battery
The mechanical shutter can shoot at up to 15 frames per second, according to Fujifilm’s technical specifications. Fujifilm lists approximate battery life of 600 still frames in Economy mode or 500 in Normal mode with the XF35mmF1.4 R, measured under its stated CIPA conditions. Actual use can differ, particularly with frequent video recording, screen use or other power-intensive settings. The specified battery is the NP-W235.
#1 Best Overall
- Putting Stability in Your Hands: A huge part of creating great photos or videos is making sure you are in the right place at the right time – and that often means making handheld images to get to the heart of the action. X-T4’s state-of-the-art, five-axis In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) provides up to 6.5 stops of image stabilization to make sure that, even in the midst of all the excitement, your images remain steady and sharp. Combine this with the new four-axis Digital Image Stabilizer, and you have lots of room to maneuver.
- Performance You Can Rely On: For any serious image maker, having a tool that can be relied upon to perform flawlessly whenever it is required is extremely important. For this reason, X-T4 features a newly developed mechanical shutter that is the fastest and most robust in the history of the X Series. Not only can it make images at 15 frames per second, but it is also rated for 300,000 actuations2. When you combine this with it’s larger capacity battery that is capable of up to 600 frames per charge2, X-T4 has the power and the durability to give you the peace of mind that you’ll never miss the perfect opportunity.
- Find the Best Angle for Your Story: When chasing the perfect image, versatility is key, so the last thing you want is to be hampered by awkward angles. The 1.62 million pixel vari-angle touchscreen LCD featured on X-T4 can be adjusted to make it visible from a wide range of positions. This not only gives you a high-quality monitor to frame with, but also provides quick and simple controls when you need them most. On the flip side, there are times when you need to minimize the light and distractions that a screen can create. That’s why X-T4’s LCD has been designed to easily fold away so it is completely hidden from view, leaving the updated 3.69 million pixel/100fps electronic viewfinder to help you focus on the moment at hand.
- When Your Story Needs Movement: The modern image maker is blurring the lines between photography and videography, and X-T4 has been designed to celebrate this new generation of hybrid creativity. With the simple flick of a switch, movie mode is activated, meaning X-T4 is capable of recording both professional-level DCI 4K/60p and Full HD/240p super slow-motion video. It is also possible to record F-Log footage in 10-bit color, straight to the card. What’s more, the innovative AF-C subject tracking works in low-light conditions down to -6EV and the camera’s use of a new, high capacity battery lets you push your creative limits.
- Powerful Image Manipulation Made Easy: For over 85 years, Fujifilm has produced photographic films that have been used by some of the world’s best-known moviemakers to create some of the world’s most successful movies. This legendary reputation in color science is celebrated with their hugely popular selection of Film Simulations, which digitize some of the industry’s most iconic films and puts them right at your fingertips. X-T4 introduces ETERNA Bleach Bypass, the newest addition to this much-loved collection of film simulation modes available in the X Series product line, which creates a beautiful de-saturated, high-contrast look that any image-maker will find irresistible.
How good is the X-T4 for video?
The X-T4 records 4K at frame rates up to 59.94p. Fujifilm’s technical specifications also list bit rates up to 400 Mbps and 10-bit recording options. The vari-angle touchscreen can be positioned for different shooting angles, and in-body stabilization is useful when recording handheld footage. DPReview singled out the camera’s stabilized, detailed video as a standout strength.
Recording format, frame rate and bit rate affect file size and card requirements. The camera has two UHS-II SD card slots; check Fujifilm’s documentation and the intended recording mode before choosing cards. The headline specifications alone do not establish recording duration for every mode or setup.

Autofocus: a strength with a qualification
DPReview reported autofocus improvements over the X-T3 but found consistency depended on the subject. In its comparison with the Sony a6600, DPReview found the Sony’s tracking stickier for some subjects. That distinction matters if you regularly photograph fast, unpredictable action: specifications and burst rate do not guarantee that focus will stay on the subject in every situation. For less demanding subjects, the X-T4’s broader still-and-video feature set may be more important than class-leading tracking.

It can be a worthwhile choice if stabilization and a balanced stills-and-video feature set match your needs, and you find a body in suitable condition at a sensible price. Fujifilm lists the model as discontinued on its official product page. Availability and pricing therefore depend on remaining stock and the used market; check the specific seller and listing rather than relying on old launch-era prices.

For a used or remaining-stock body, assess the camera’s condition, what is included, return terms and warranty coverage before comparing prices. The total cost should include any lenses or accessories you need. The X-T4 uses Fujifilm X-mount lenses, and system size and cost depend on the lenses selected.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should choose the X-T4—and who should look elsewhere?
| Consideration | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Stills and video in one body | DPReview considered the X-T4 particularly compelling for switching between stills and video; its 10-bit video options and stabilization support that hybrid role. |
| Action autofocus | DPReview found autofocus less consistently refined than leading rivals, with tracking performance varying by subject. |
| Battery priorities | In DPReview’s comparison at the time, the Sony a6600 offered longer battery life. Treat this as a review-era comparison, not a current market ranking. |
| Image quality and system size | DPReview noted that full-frame alternatives may offer image-quality advantages, while APS-C systems can enable smaller body-and-lens combinations. |
| Current purchase value | Because Fujifilm lists the X-T4 as discontinued, compare the condition and warranty of actual used or remaining-stock listings rather than assuming a current standard retail price. |
The X-T4 makes most sense when its stabilization, video features, handling and Fujifilm X-mount system align with what you shoot. If dependable subject tracking is the priority, or if you are choosing between APS-C and full frame, compare alternatives against your specific subjects, lens needs and total system budget.
