The retro-inspired Fujifilm X half received firmware Ver.2.00 on September 30, 2026, according to Fujifilm’s global support listing. The update adds a Soft Glow filter, 12- and 24-frame options for Film Camera Mode, and responsiveness improvements that Fujifilm describes as faster startup and shorter autofocus times.
What Ver.2.00 changes
Fujifilm’s change log lists three main additions or improvements: the SOFT GLOW filter, new simulated-roll lengths, and faster camera response. These are firmware changes for the X half; they do not change the camera’s sensor or lens.

- SOFT GLOW: A newly added filter function for a softer, glow-like image treatment.
- 12- and 24-frame rolls: Film Camera Mode now offers two shorter simulated roll lengths in addition to the original choices.
- Responsiveness: Fujifilm says startup is faster and autofocus times are shorter. Digital Camera World also reports less delay between shots. Neither source gives measured performance percentages, so the improvement should not be read as a quantified gain in every situation.
What Soft Glow looks like—and how it differs from halation
Fujifilm’s firmware listing confirms the filter’s addition but does not explain its rendering. Digital Camera World describes Soft Glow as a diffusion-like effect that softens highlights and creates a glow, similar to the look of softer lens rendering.
That publication distinguishes it from halation, which it characterizes as a warmer glow associated with light scattering on film. In its description, Soft Glow softens the image without the same warm tones. The distinction is useful if you are choosing a visual treatment: one is described as softer highlight diffusion, the other as a warmer halo-like effect. These are Digital Camera World’s explanations, not technical details in Fujifilm’s short change log.

How the new Film Camera Mode roll lengths work
Film Camera Mode imitates the constraint of shooting a fixed-length roll: choose a Film Simulation and roll size, then advance the frame after each picture. Fujifilm’s launch materials initially listed 36-, 54-, and 72-exposure choices; Ver.2.00 adds 12 and 24 frames. The shorter options let you complete a simulated roll sooner before choosing a setup for another one. They do not alter image quality or the camera hardware.
| Roll length | Availability | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 12 frames | Added in Ver.2.00 | Shortest new option; lets you finish a simulated roll sooner. |
| 24 frames | Added in Ver.2.00 | Shorter than the original choices, but longer than the new 12-frame option. |
| 36, 54, and 72 frames | Listed at launch | Original simulated-roll choices. |
Digital Camera World reports that Film Camera Mode disables previews and locks settings, making the shooting process more screen-free. That operational description is from the publication’s report; Fujifilm’s firmware listing specifically confirms the added roll lengths.

Which camera received the update?
The camera is the Fujifilm X half, not an X100-series model. FUJIFILM Americas introduced it in May 2025 as a compact digital camera inspired by half-frame film cameras. Its launch announcement described a 1-inch back-illuminated sensor, a fixed 10.8mm F2.8 lens with a 32mm-equivalent field of view, 13 Film Simulations, a vertical 3:4 rear screen, and an optical viewfinder. Those are launch specifications, not features added by Ver.2.00.

Printing and accessories: one Film Camera Mode limitation
FUJIFILM Americas says selected instax Link printers support printing through the app, but images made in Film Camera Mode cannot be printed directly from the X half to an instax Link printer. Check the local printer and camera documentation for compatible models and the available workflow before buying accessories.

Existing X half owners receive these changes through a firmware update; the update is not a reason to buy another camera. Fujifilm’s global support page lists Ver.2.00 dated September 30, 2026. Fujifilm’s published change log describes the direction of the responsiveness changes, not a measured speed increase. Digital Camera World adds a report of shorter shot-to-shot delay, but neither source provides controlled figures showing how much faster the camera is or how it performs across different shooting conditions. The available claims support a qualitative improvement, not a guarantee of a particular autofocus or startup time.

- Reimagined Half-Frame Digital Format: Inspired by classic half-frame film cameras, the FUJIFILM X half features a vertical 1" 18MP sensor with a 3:4 aspect ratio. It offers a distinct, compact shooting experience ideal for casual photographers and content creators seeking deliberate, story-driven imagery. This unique sensor layout naturally suits vertical content, perfect for modern social sharing without the need to crop or reformat.
- Film Camera Mode with Roll-Based Shooting: Film Camera Mode brings analog discipline to digital photography. Choose one Film Simulation and commit to a 36, 54, or 72-shot “roll.” You won’t see your images until the roll is digitally “developed” via app or desktop. A contact sheet is auto-generated at the end. This encourages mindful shooting, offering a tactile, immersive process for film lovers transitioning into digital workflows.
- Integrated Film Simulations and Filters: The X half includes 13 iconic Film Simulations like Velvia and Acros, with real-time selection via a secondary sub LCD. You can enhance visuals with 26 optional filters—like Halation and Light Leak—to echo classic film traits. Combined with an adjustable Grain Effect, these tools give creators full control over their image aesthetic, whether shooting stills or vertical-format video.
- Functional Design with Fixed Wide-Angle Lens: A 10.8mm f/2.8 fixed lens (32mm equivalent) ensures consistent sharpness and simplicity for street, travel, and everyday use. Manual controls include an aperture ring and front focusing ring for precision. Paired with a tactile Frame Advance Lever and a viewfinder-only composition mode, this compact camera supports instinctive, distraction-free photography rooted in traditional film ergonomics.
