Instead of entering each item separately, a user can dump several work and personal thoughts into one note, review the extracted tasks, and mark items complete. Its author, Nadun Jayaweera, describes it as: “Dump your thoughts first. Organize them later with AI.”
What FriendFlow does
FriendFlow is designed for the moment when tasks are scattered in your head and a form for every item feels like too much effort. Write or paste one ordinary-language note, and the app asks an AI model to turn it into separate tasks. For example, a note might say: “Tomorrow I need to review the API PR, buy milk, send the project report today, and call Kasun.”
The intended result is a set of task titles, dates and priorities that the user can inspect, rather than a finished plan that should be trusted without review. How the reported workflow works
- Capture: The user writes or pastes a paragraph containing multiple tasks.
- Send for extraction: The React frontend sends the note to an Express API endpoint.
- Generate task data: The backend prompts Gemma 3 1B, running locally through Ollama, to identify task information.
- Normalize and display: The backend validates and normalizes the model response into structured task data, which the app displays for review.
- Track completion: Users can mark tasks complete, and completed tasks move into a completed-task history.
Jayaweera reports that task records are saved in local JSON storage. The described frontend uses React, Vite and CSS; the backend uses Node.js and Express, with Ollama and Gemma 3 1B for local inference. These are details from the author’s account, not an independently audited dependency or implementation review.

Why use a local model?
Jayaweera’s stated rationale is that running inference locally through Ollama means notes do not need to be sent to a third-party AI API. He also describes local storage, model flexibility through Ollama, and avoiding per-request AI charges after installing a model. These points describe the project’s design intentions; they should not be read as a security guarantee or a promise that using the app has no costs.
The project article does not establish that the entire application makes no network requests, provide a security audit or threat model, or quantify setup, hardware, electricity or maintenance costs. Local inference can reduce reliance on a hosted AI API, but the article alone is not enough to establish what data the complete application may transmit or how securely local files are protected.

What to check in the extracted tasks
Natural-language notes can mix relative dates (“tomorrow”), explicit dates (“today”), people, and tasks with no deadline. FriendFlow’s described output includes a due date and priority, but the project article does not explain how ambiguous dates are resolved, how often tasks are omitted or invented, or how extraction errors are handled. Review the generated titles, dates and priorities before relying on them; the article reports no measured accuracy or test coverage.
The “1B” in Gemma 3 1B is part of the model designation, not evidence of a particular speed, accuracy or task-extraction capability. The project account also gives no hardware requirements, so it cannot establish which computers will run the setup comfortably.
