Choosing between television and 9Now
Use Channel 9 if the match is listed and your TV receives the channel
Free-to-air is the simplest route if the match you want is on Nine and you have working reception. If your home does not have a suitable aerial setup, reception may require attention; an indoor antenna is only a possible option, not a guaranteed fix, because local reception and home layouts vary.

Use 9Now for free streaming of Nine’s selected coverage
Nine says viewers need to create a Nine profile to get started with 9Now. The service supports live Channel 9 streaming and catch-up viewing on phones, tablets, computers and TVs. Nine describes 9Now as free, advertising-funded and without in-app purchases. These features do not make the service a stream of every NRL match.
When Kayo is the better fit
If you want all-round NRL coverage rather than only the matches selected for Nine, Kayo is the NRL-listed digital route: the league promotes it for every game of every round live or on demand. It is subscription-based. The official information cited here does not establish current Kayo prices or detailed plan terms, so check Kayo directly before subscribing.

Check whether a particular match is on free-to-air
- Find the match and kick-off time on the current NRL draw.
- Check the NRL’s live-watch listing and Nine/9Now’s current schedule for that fixture.
- If it is listed on Nine, watch on Channel 9 or check that it is available to stream live on 9Now. If it is not listed and you want to watch live or on demand, consult the NRL’s Kayo listing.
Weekly coverage totals are useful for comparing services, but they cannot confirm whether a specific 2026 fixture is on Nine. The reviewed official listings also do not settle current Foxtel prices or detailed subscription terms.
Why Watch NRL is not the Australian option
Watch NRL is not available to viewers in Australia, New Zealand or the Pacific Islands. The service directs Australian viewers to Kayo or Foxtel instead. Rights and streaming routes differ by territory, so Watch NRL availability outside those areas should be checked for the viewer’s location.

What changes in 2028
The NRL announced on July 7, 2026, a separate seven-year media agreement that starts in 2028; those future terms do not determine the 2026 fixture schedule. Under the announced arrangement, Foxtel will televise all NRL and NRLW Premiership and Finals matches. Nine will have exclusive coverage of the NRL Grand Final and both men’s and women’s State of Origin series, and will simulcast three weekly NRL and NRLW fixtures. For the 2026 season, the NRL’s current partner listing and the current fixture schedule are the practical references. A prior NRL announcement described Nine’s agreement through the end of 2027 and selected live matches across parts of the week, but that historic scheduling description is not a definitive guide to an individual 2026 game.
