Free Online Web Scraping Tools: What to Use and How to Choose

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a quick extraction without coding, start with a point-and-click scraper such as Crawley Cloud; if you need repeatable collection inside an application, compare hosted APIs such as HasData, Scrape.do, and OpenGraph.io. Their free allowances and advertised capabilities differ, and no single option is established as best for every website. Choose based on page behavior, output, usage limits, and whether the target permits your intended collection.

What counts as an online web scraping tool?

An online scraper lets you collect information from web pages without building the entire extraction system yourself. Some services provide a visual interface: select page elements and configure the extraction in a browser. Others expose an API, so your code sends a URL and receives extracted content or page data. These options are not interchangeable: a visual builder suits an occasional task, while an API is easier to incorporate into a repeatable workflow.

A scraper may also need to render a page in a browser to see content created by JavaScript. A page that looks complete in Chrome may not include its visible text in the initial HTML response. Vendors advertise browser rendering for some products, but the available product descriptions do not establish that any service succeeds on every site.

The plan limits below are values shown on the vendors’ pages when checked in September 2026. They are vendor-stated allowances, not independent performance measurements, and can change. Confirm current terms before building a workflow around them.

Tool Best fit What the vendor says it offers Free allowance shown
Crawley Cloud Point-and-click setup for a no-code extraction Visual click-to-select builder, headless Chrome rendering, rotating proxies, and JSON, CSV, or Markdown output. Not stated on the cited product page.
HasData A hosted no-code option or API with explicit free-tier quantities No-code scraping and API access; credits used per call vary by tool and options. Up to 1,000 no-code rows, up to 1,000 API requests, 1,000 monthly credits, and one concurrent request. The row, request, and credit limits are distinct figures, not a guaranteed one-to-one conversion.
Scrape.do A managed scraping API The free-plan FAQ lists residential/mobile proxies, geo-targeting, CAPTCHA handling, and JavaScript rendering. 1,000 successful API calls per month, according to the vendor’s pricing FAQ.
OpenGraph.io web scraping tool Fetching raw page HTML through a service that also offers an API The product page describes fetching raw HTML from public pages, including JavaScript-rendered pages, with an API key. 100 credits per month, according to the vendor’s product page.

For a one-off extraction without coding

Crawley Cloud describes a point-and-click workflow: select elements visually, then export data as JSON, CSV, or Markdown. It also advertises headless Chrome rendering. This combination may suit someone who wants a visual setup and structured output, but the product page cited here does not state a free usage allowance. Check the current plan details before investing time in a large setup.

For a developer who wants an API

HasData and Scrape.do state monthly request or credit allowances for free plans. HasData also presents a no-code route, while Scrape.do describes its plan in successful API calls. Compare what counts against the allowance: a row, request, successful call, and credit are different units, and advanced options may affect credit use.

OpenGraph.io is another API-connected option if the task is specifically to fetch raw HTML from a public page. Its page describes JavaScript-rendered pages and a 100-credit monthly free API key. Raw HTML is not the same as a clean dataset: you may still need to parse it into fields and handle pagination or inconsistent page layouts yourself.

For local, browser, or code-first control

A browser extension can keep a task close to the pages you are viewing, but the available evidence supports Chrome’s extension platform documentation rather than any particular scraping extension. No specific extension is endorsed here. Review permissions, data handling, export options, and maintenance history before installing one.

For a code-first project, the official Scrapy 2.19 documentation is a framework reference. Scrapy is not an online no-code service: it is a developer-oriented path for building and operating your own crawler. Choose it when the control and customization are worth the engineering work.

How to choose the right tool

  1. Decide whether this is a one-time task or a recurring pipeline. A visual builder can reduce setup for a small, occasional collection. An API or code framework is usually more appropriate when extraction must run repeatedly or feed another application.
  2. Check how the target page is built. For static pages, retrieving HTML may be enough. If content appears only after scripts run, look for an explicitly advertised browser-rendering feature. Treat that as a capability claim, not a guarantee that the particular site will work.
  3. Match the output to what you need next. A visible table or CSV may be convenient for analysis; JSON often fits an application; Markdown may suit text-oriented workflows. If the service returns raw HTML, expect to parse it yourself.
  4. Read the free-tier unit and constraints. Check monthly reset, rows versus requests or credits, concurrency, and whether features consume additional credits. A headline allowance alone does not tell you how many usable records a complex job will produce.
  5. Consider repeatability and operational controls. If you need scheduled runs, monitoring, or multiple concurrent tasks, verify that those capabilities and their limits are explicitly included in the plan you intend to use.
  6. Confirm that collection and reuse are appropriate. Check the target site’s terms, the data involved, your intended use, and laws that apply to you. Public visibility does not by itself settle every question about collection or reuse.

Getting started with a no-code scraper

A point-and-click service is the most direct route if you do not want to write extraction code. The exact labels and sequence can vary by product, but a careful first run follows this pattern:

  1. Open the target page and identify the specific fields you need, such as a title, date, or listed price. Avoid collecting unrelated fields by default.
  2. In the scraper’s visual builder, enter the page or starting URL and use its click-to-select controls to identify the repeating item and each field.
  3. Preview several results, not only the first item. Check that the selection captures the same kind of value on different rows and does not include navigation, advertisements, or empty fields.
  4. If the page relies on JavaScript, enable the product’s advertised browser-rendering mode if available, then run another preview. A rendered browser can expose content that is absent from the initial HTML, but it cannot guarantee access to every page.
  5. Choose a suitable export, such as CSV for a spreadsheet or JSON for a software workflow. Inspect the downloaded result for missing values, duplicates, pagination gaps, and unexpected formatting.
  6. Before scheduling or scaling the task, confirm the plan’s row, request, credit, and concurrency limits and check the site’s applicable terms.

Or skip the browser setup

If your goal is to capture a page as an image or PDF rather than extract a dataset of fields, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its API returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from a URL, and its request parameters include the names used by other screenshot APIs to make switching easier. A screenshot is a visual capture, not a substitute for structured scraping when you need rows of data.

For example, this cURL request captures a URL as WebP; replace the sample URL and API key with your own. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the available parameters.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo says it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. It bills only clean shots: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Common problems and what to check

The page loads, but the extracted fields are empty

The content may be inserted by JavaScript after the initial response, or the selected element may not match the actual page structure. Check whether the tool advertises browser rendering, wait for the relevant content if the product offers that control, and preview the selector against several items. If you are using an API that returns raw HTML, confirm whether the returned HTML contains the values before changing your parser.

The first records look right, but later ones are missing or wrong

Check pagination, repeating-item selection, and whether later pages use a different layout. Preview records from the beginning, middle, and end of the result set, then inspect the exported file for duplicate rows and blank fields. A successful first-page preview does not establish that a multi-page job is complete.

The job stops or uses its allowance sooner than expected

Check the vendor’s current definitions for credits, requests, successful calls, rows, and concurrency. For HasData, the pricing page distinguishes monthly credits from row and request limits and says credit consumption varies by tool and options. For Scrape.do, the stated free allowance is successful API calls. Do not assume one call equals one row across products or configurations.

A protected or restricted page will not load

Vendors may advertise proxy, CAPTCHA-handling, or browser-rendering features, but those claims do not show that a particular target will work. Do not treat a technical workaround as permission to collect data. Review the site’s terms and applicable rules, and stop if you do not have authorization for the intended access.

Cost, reliability, and responsible use

A free tier is useful for trying a small task, but its practical value depends on the unit being counted and the options enabled. HasData’s September 2026 pricing page lists 1,000 monthly credits, up to 1,000 no-code rows, up to 1,000 API requests, and one concurrent request; it notes that credits per call vary. Scrape.do’s pricing FAQ lists 1,000 successful API calls each month. OpenGraph.io’s product page lists 100 credits monthly. These figures describe vendor plan terms as displayed at that time, not comparable output volumes or a measure of reliability.

No shared cross-vendor test establishes success rates, completeness, or performance on the same set of websites. Test your own representative pages and validate the resulting data before relying on it. For recurring work, account for failed pages, layout changes, rate limits, and the cost of reviewing or repairing output—not only the listed monthly allowance.

Crawley Cloud’s FAQ advises: “Scraping publicly available data is generally permitted, but you’re responsible for respecting each site’s terms and applicable laws.” That is vendor guidance, not a legal ruling. Whether a particular collection or reuse is permitted depends on the site, data, purpose, and jurisdiction; consult authoritative guidance when the stakes warrant it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I scrape a website without coding?

Yes. A point-and-click service such as Crawley Cloud is designed for visual field selection, though you should verify its current plan limits and test the exported data.

Does a free scraper work on JavaScript websites?

Some vendors advertise browser rendering for JavaScript-heavy pages, but that does not guarantee that a specific site will work. Check the product’s current capabilities and validate a sample.

Is ScreenshotNeo a web scraper?

ScreenshotNeo captures pages as images or PDFs; it is useful when you need a visual page capture, not structured rows extracted from a site.
