Where to find a free New Year overlay
Start with an overlay gallery or asset library. StreamElements documents a ready-to-go gallery: choose CREATE, optionally name the asset, then select GO TO MY OVERLAYS. Its gallery can help you browse designs, but a gallery listing does not establish that a particular New Year design is free today. Check the exact asset’s price and terms before using it. OWN3D says some free overlays are available, but that does not confirm a New Year-specific design is free or currently available. Check the item itself before downloading or adding it. OWN3D’s overlay page describes its free and premium offerings.
Check the asset before choosing it
- Confirm that the specific design is available without payment; “free overlays” on a gallery page does not guarantee every item is free.
- Read the asset’s license and reuse terms, especially if your stream is commercial or you plan to redistribute or modify the graphic.
- Check whether it is static or animated, its dimensions, and whether it is supplied as a browser URL or a downloadable file. StreamElements supports static and animated overlays.
These checks matter because the reviewed provider information does not establish the license or current price of any particular seasonal asset.

Add a StreamElements overlay to OBS
- Choose and open your overlay. In StreamElements, create or select an overlay in the gallery or My Overlays.
- Copy its URL. Copy the overlay URL from the dashboard or editor. StreamElements’ OBS setup guide, updated May 7, 2024, documents both locations.
- Add it to the right scene. In OBS, select the scene where you want the graphic. In the Sources panel, choose +, select Browser, create a new source, and paste the URL into its URL field.
- Set the size. Enter dimensions that suit your stream canvas. StreamElements recommends matching the stream resolution; a smaller canvas can be useful when you want to reposition the design inside OBS. See its overlay editor sizing guidance.
- Arrange and preview. Position the Browser source relative to your other sources, then check the scene in OBS before going live. Make sure the overlay does not cover important content.
Stream overlays are visual elements layered over a broadcast; they can include graphics such as alerts, labels, goals, and chat. StreamElements renders these through a browser source, as described in its overlay documentation.
Fix common overlay problems
The overlay is missing or blank
Check that the Browser source contains the complete overlay URL and that you added it to the scene you are previewing. Reopen the source properties to verify the URL, then preview the scene again.

The overlay looks too large, too small, or misplaced
Adjust the Browser source dimensions to fit the broadcast canvas. If you need more freedom to position the design, try a smaller canvas and arrange it in OBS.
