Adobe Acrobat Pro is the better fit when your organization depends on Adobe integrations, established Acrobat templates and processes, or high-volume e-signature operations. Both handle professional editing, conversion, OCR, forms, signatures, redaction, accessibility and collaboration. The right choice is therefore a workflow and licensing decision, not simply a feature-count contest.
Prices and inclusions below are published US figures from 2026. Taxes, regional pricing, contract terms, volume discounts and optional add-ons can change the total.

What both PDF editors can do
Either product can replace a basic PDF utility for a professional user. Both create PDFs, edit text and graphics, convert files, recognize text in scans, build forms, add annotations, apply security controls and support electronic signatures. Accessibility tools and collaboration features are included in the professional plans described here.
#1 Best Overall
- Work securely offline — without connecting to the cloud — with desktop-only PDF tools.
- Edit text and images and reorder and delete pages in a PDF.
- Convert PDFs to Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files while preserving fonts, formatting, and layouts.
- Easily create, fill, and sign forms.
- Password-protect documents or redact sections of a PDF to keep sensitive information secure.
Editing, conversion and forms
Foxit PDF Editor and PDF Editor+ cover document creation, editing and conversion, along with interactive forms. Adobe Acrobat Pro covers the same fundamentals and adds web forms and reusable e-signature templates over Acrobat Standard. If your work is limited to changing text, combining files, exporting to Office formats or collecting occasional signatures, both products meet the basic requirement.
OCR and scanned documents
Both products list OCR. Adobe explicitly positions Pro as adding OCR for scanned documents over Standard, while Foxit lists OCR as a core Editor and Editor+ capability. That means neither product should be rejected for ordinary scanned-PDF text recognition. Buyers processing large archives should run representative scans through each trial and check language support, table recognition, reading order and searchable-text accuracy; the published plan pages do not provide a controlled accuracy benchmark.
Redaction and document security
Adobe Acrobat Pro includes redaction as an advanced PDF tool. Foxit PDF Editor+ adds AI-powered Smart Redact. In either application, verify that a redaction permanently removes underlying text and metadata rather than merely placing a black shape over visible content. Establish a review step for names, account numbers, comments, hidden layers and attachments before releasing a redacted file.

Pricing: is Foxit cheaper than Acrobat Pro?
At the published US prices available in 2026, yes. Foxit PDF Editor+ is listed at $159.99 per user per year. Foxit’s comparison page lists Adobe Acrobat Pro for Teams at $287.88 per user per year, making Foxit $127.89 less per seat annually at list price. The comparison labels that difference as 44% lower for Foxit and is dated September 3, 2026; taxes and volume discounts are excluded.

| License or plan | Published US price | Billing qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Foxit PDF Editor | $129.99 per user per year | Annual list price; monthly billing is also offered |
| Foxit PDF Editor+ | $159.99 per user per year | Annual list price; monthly billing from $10.99 |
| Foxit PDF Editor 14 perpetual | $209.99 per user | One-time purchase for Windows and macOS |
| Adobe Acrobat Pro individual | US$19.99 per month | Monthly amount when billed annually; equivalent to US$239.88 over 12 months |
| Adobe Acrobat Pro for Teams | $287.88 per user per year | Figure shown in Foxit’s September 3, 2026 comparison; taxes and volume discounts excluded |
What those prices mean for a team
Using the cited list prices, five Foxit PDF Editor+ seats cost $799.95 for one year, while five Acrobat Pro for Teams seats cost $1,439.40. Ten seats would be $1,599.90 versus $2,878.80. These are simple calculations from the published per-seat figures, not a quotation: negotiated contracts, regional taxes, currency conversion and seat-count discounts can change both totals.
Foxit’s standard Editor is another option at $129.99 per user per year, but the Plus plan is the relevant comparison when you need Smart Redact, Foxit DMS, mobile apps, AI credits and the included eSign envelopes. Compare the complete bundle rather than choosing solely on the lowest sticker price.
Perpetual licensing versus subscription
Foxit’s one-time option
Foxit lists Foxit PDF Editor 14 for Windows and macOS at $209.99 per user as a perpetual, one-time purchase. This can suit a small office, offline workstation or long-lived deployment that does not want a recurring per-seat fee. Confirm the version’s upgrade policy, support period and whether newer operating systems require a later purchase before standardizing on it; the published figure identifies the license as perpetual but does not promise every future upgrade.
Adobe’s subscription model
Adobe states that new customers do not receive a perpetual Acrobat license. Acrobat Pro is therefore an ongoing subscription, whether purchased individually or through a teams agreement. Subscription licensing provides access to current releases while the plan remains active, but stopping payment can remove access to paid editing and signing functions. Budget renewals and account ownership as part of your offboarding process.

Which licensing model is financially sensible?
- Choose Foxit perpetual when a fixed one-time purchase, Windows/macOS desktop use and predictable long-term ownership outweigh cloud and service bundles.
- Choose Foxit Plus subscription when you want DMS, AI credits, mobile apps and eSign allowances included in one recurring plan.
- Choose Adobe subscription when continuous Acrobat updates, Adobe account administration and integration with existing Adobe workflows are more important than perpetual ownership.
OCR, comparison and redaction: which is stronger?
Adobe Acrobat Pro has a clearly specified advantage over Acrobat Standard: scanned-document OCR, PDF comparison and redaction are named Pro additions. PDF comparison is useful when contracts, policies or forms change and you need a visual or text-level differences report rather than manually checking two files. Pro also adds web forms and reusable e-signature templates.
Foxit PDF Editor+ lists OCR, comparison and redaction among its professional capabilities and adds Smart Redact. Its AI credits can assist with supported tasks, but the plan description does not establish an accuracy ranking against Acrobat. For regulated work, evaluate both with your own documents and require human approval of every OCR result and redaction.
A practical evaluation test
- Collect five representative PDFs: a clean digital file, a skewed scan, a table-heavy scan, a multilingual document and a form with signatures or annotations.
- Run OCR and search for exact names, dates, totals and table values. Record missed characters and reading-order errors.
- Compare two revisions of the same document and verify whether additions, deletions, formatting changes and moved paragraphs are easy to identify.
- Apply redaction to visible text, headers, comments, attachments and metadata. Reopen the exported file in a separate PDF viewer and search for the removed terms.
- Have a second reviewer inspect the outputs before using either product for production records.
E-signatures and forms
Foxit PDF Editor+ includes Foxit eSign with 150 envelopes per user per year. An envelope generally represents a signature transaction sent to one or more recipients, so estimate annual transactions rather than counting individual signers. The plan’s allowance is useful for moderate signing demand, but confirm how your organization’s multi-recipient workflows consume envelopes.
Adobe Acrobat Pro includes reusable e-signature templates, web forms, bulk signature requests and bulk-signature tracking. Those capabilities make Adobe the stronger candidate for departments that repeatedly send standardized agreements, monitor many outstanding requests or need established Acrobat-based approval processes. Check the current contract for any transaction limits or separate e-signature charges; the feature list alone does not establish unlimited volume.

AI, document management and storage
Foxit PDF Editor+ bundle
Foxit PDF Editor+ includes 300 AI credits per user per month, AI-powered Smart Redact, and Foxit DMS with unlimited storage. Foxit describes the DMS as providing metadata and full-text search, version control and governance features. Workspace capabilities are also included. These services can reduce the need to purchase a separate document repository for a team whose requirements fit the included controls.
Adobe’s AI tier distinction
Adobe’s pricing information places PDF Spaces, Acrobat AI Assistant and Adobe Express Premium in the Studio tier. Do not assume that subscribing to Acrobat Pro alone supplies those Studio features. If generative assistance or shared AI workspaces are central to your process, compare the Studio price and terms with Foxit’s included monthly credits rather than comparing Pro with Plus as though the AI bundles were equivalent.
Storage and governance questions to ask
- Who owns files when an employee leaves?
- Can administrators enforce retention, sharing and version policies?
- Can you export all files and metadata if you change vendors?
- How are AI prompts and uploaded documents handled under your organization’s privacy rules?
- What happens when a user exhausts monthly AI credits or the eSign allowance?
Platforms, mobile access and integrations
Foxit lists Windows, macOS and web support for its standard Editor, and adds iOS and Android apps in PDF Editor+. Adobe Acrobat is available on desktop, mobile and in a web browser. Foxit Plus is therefore the clearer choice when mobile applications are required as part of the same published bundle; Adobe’s mobile availability is broad, but the exact capabilities depend on the account and platform.
Adobe identifies integrations with OneDrive and Google Drive and benefits from the wider Adobe ecosystem. That matters when staff already exchange files through Adobe applications, use Acrobat templates or have established Acrobat-based approval and archival procedures. Foxit can be a practical replacement when files are handled in ordinary local, web or cloud-storage workflows, but you should test every connector, plug-in and identity-provider integration used by your team.

Can Foxit replace Adobe Acrobat Pro?
For many users, yes. Foxit PDF Editor+ covers the professional PDF tasks most offices perform and adds bundled DMS, AI credits, Smart Redact, eSign capacity and mobile apps. A team that mainly edits, converts, OCRs, annotates, redacts and signs PDFs can usually move those activities to Foxit after testing templates and integrations.
Replacement is less straightforward when Acrobat is embedded in a larger Adobe process. Inventory Acrobat actions before migrating:
- Reusable agreement and web-form templates
- Bulk signature requests and tracking reports
- Adobe cloud or Creative Cloud handoffs
- OneDrive or Google Drive connectors and automated workflows
- Scripts, plug-ins, JavaScript actions and document-assembly routines
- Accessibility checks, preflight profiles and regulated approval records
Export source templates, preserve a read-only archive, recreate a small pilot set in Foxit and have business owners sign off on the output. Do not cancel Acrobat until a complete signing, archival and recovery test succeeds.

Choose Foxit PDF Editor+ when
- Published per-seat cost is the dominant constraint.
- You want a perpetual desktop license or a subscription that includes DMS and mobile apps.
- Smart Redact, 300 monthly AI credits and 150 annual eSign envelopes are valuable in one bundle.
- Your staff needs Windows, macOS, web, iOS and Android coverage.
- You are willing to validate templates and integrations during a pilot rather than rely on an existing Acrobat standard.
Choose Adobe Acrobat Pro when
- Your organization already standardizes on Adobe products or Acrobat workflows.
- You need Pro’s named features: scanned-document OCR, PDF comparison, redaction, web forms, reusable e-signature templates and bulk-signature tracking.
- High-volume or highly structured e-signature operations are more important than the lower Foxit list price.
- Existing integrations and user familiarity would make migration more expensive than the license difference.
Choose neither paid plan yet when
Occasional viewers and users making only simple edits should first compare the free Reader and available trials. A full editor is justified when you need repeatable OCR, redaction, form creation, signing, accessibility work or document governance—not merely to open a PDF.
Deployment and buying checklist for teams
- Count active editors, occasional signers and read-only users separately; do not buy an editor seat for every person who only views PDFs.
- List annual signature transactions, recipients per envelope and whether bulk tracking is required.
- Measure current storage, retention, versioning and full-text-search needs against Foxit DMS and your existing repository.
- Document every Acrobat template, integration, plug-in, script and accessibility or preflight process.
- Run the OCR, comparison and redaction test on real but non-sensitive copies.
- Pilot identity management, permissions, mobile access, offline work and file recovery with representative users.
- Request a quote for the intended seat count. Foxit documents volume discounts, and Adobe pricing can vary by contract and region.
- Calculate three-year cost using renewal prices, migration labor, storage, e-sign overages and any required higher tier—not only the first-year list price.
Bottom line
Foxit PDF Editor+ wins on published US team value and bundle breadth: $159.99 per user per year, a perpetual Foxit Editor 14 option, unlimited-storage DMS, 300 AI credits per month, Smart Redact, 150 eSign envelopes per year and Plus mobile apps. Adobe Acrobat Pro costs more in the cited teams comparison but remains the safer choice for Adobe-centric organizations, mature Acrobat templates, broad integrations and advanced e-signature operations. Select Foxit for lower cost and bundled services; select Acrobat Pro when continuity with an established Adobe process is worth the premium.
