The documented system is the Collection Journal, a digital record of mementos and discoveries made while exploring Japan. You build it by earning progress in the seven-stamp Discover Japan path and by saving photos of murals, landmarks, and other notable places. Those Journal entries are not confirmed as physical house decorations. Vehicles, by contrast, can be displayed in the garages attached to the game’s eight player houses and at the larger Estate.
What “Permanent Souvenirs” means in Forza Horizon 6
The phrase “permanent souvenirs” appears to describe what players want from the game rather than an established menu label. Official descriptions from Playground Games and Xbox use Collection Journal: a personal, digital collection of memories and discoveries recorded during a drive through Japan.

That distinction matters because three different systems can look similar at first:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Journal records: saved photos, discoveries, and exploration memories associated with your journey.
- Stamp progression: activity-based progress in Discover Japan that unlocks rewards and new opportunities.
- Physical displays: vehicles and build objects placed in houses, garages, the Estate, or custom EventLab environments.
Current official material confirms the first two systems and confirms vehicle display in homes. It does not establish a separate collectible category called Permanent Souvenirs, a complete item list under that name, or a control that turns Journal entries into objects on a shelf.

How the Collection Journal and stamps work
Discover Japan is organized around seven stamps. Finding things and completing activities across Japan adds progress toward the next stamp. The system is broader than a conventional hidden-item hunt: ordinary progression activities, photography, races, and jobs can all contribute.
Activities that contribute to Discover Japan
- Collecting and customizing cars.
- Photographing murals.
- Smashing regional mascots.
- Finding landmarks.
- Joining Mei on day tours.
- Completing Street Races and Touge Races.
- Earning income through the Raku-Raku food-delivery job.
The official description presents these as examples of ways to build discovery progress, not as a guaranteed one-to-one checklist for every stamp. If a particular activity does not move the visible progress bar immediately, continue using the Discover Japan tracker in the current game build rather than assuming that the activity is broken.
What stamps unlock
Stamps unlock Barn Find Rumors and homes that can be purchased around Japan. Obtaining the first stamp introduces the Estate, a larger buildable location where you can construct and decorate an open-world base.
The stamps therefore function as progression gates. They are not described as individual souvenir objects, and the published material does not provide a numbered list matching each stamp to a specific mural, landmark, or photo.

Step-by-step: how to build your Journal progress
Because exact button prompts and menu placement can vary by platform, use the in-game labels shown by your installed version. The following route follows the documented progression without assuming an unverified control scheme.
- Open the Discover Japan or Collection Journal tracker. Identify your current stamp and the progress needed for the next one. Treat the Journal as the authoritative record for what your save has already logged.
- Drive through new parts of Japan. Explore roads and off-road areas instead of staying at one race hub. Landmarks, murals, mascots, and other discoveries are distributed through the world.
- Photograph notable locations. When you find a mural, landmark, or other memorable spot, use Photo Mode and save the image. The saved photo is the confirmed memento; the sources do not say that the photographed object becomes a placeable prop.
- Mix exploration with normal activities. Collect or customize cars, join Mei’s day tours, enter Street and Touge Races, and use the Raku-Raku delivery job when it is available. These activities are part of the documented Discover Japan activity set.
- Check the tracker after major activities. Confirm that the stamp progress changed and note any newly available Barn Find Rumor or home. This separates a progression reward from an individual hidden collectible.
- Claim newly unlocked content. Follow the game’s prompt for a Barn Find Rumor or a purchasable home. The first stamp’s Estate access is a progression unlock, not a Journal photograph that must be placed manually.
- Save your display separately. Once a house or the Estate is available, use its garage or build tools for vehicles and confirmed props. Keep Journal photos in the Journal/Photo system unless the game explicitly adds a placement command in a later update.
This approach prevents a common mistake: repeatedly searching for a “souvenir pickup” when the relevant progress may come from a race, tour, delivery job, photograph, or general exploration.
Where are the “permanent souvenirs” located?
There is no official, item-by-item map of Permanent Souvenirs in the material currently documented. The confirmed locations are categories of discoveries spread across Japan:

| What you are looking for | How it relates to the Journal | What is established about its location |
|---|---|---|
| Murals | You can save photographs as Journal mementos. | They are found while exploring Japan; exact coordinates are not provided. |
| Landmarks | You can record notable places and save photos. | They are distributed around the open world; no complete coordinate list is confirmed. |
| Regional mascots | Smashing mascots contributes to Discover Japan activity progress. | They are a separate world-discovery category; a complete location list is not established here. |
| Barn Finds | Stamp progress unlocks Barn Find Rumors. | Rumors become available through progression, rather than all being visible from the start. |
| Treasure Map collectibles | Not documented as Journal mementos. | The add-on lists Bonus Boards, Barn Finds, Regional Mascots, Treasure Chests, and Treasure Cars. |
If your game’s current interface introduces a named souvenir page, rely on that exact label and verify each entry individually. Do not assume that every photograph, stamp, mascot, or landmark is one standardized pickup type.

Can Journal souvenirs be displayed in a house or garage?
Physical display is confirmed for vehicles, not for Journal entries. The game has eight player houses around Japan. Each house acts as a fast-travel point and customization space and includes a garage where you can decorate and display several vehicles.
The Estate is a larger buildable space introduced with the first stamp. Official material also describes themed props that can dress up the Estate, garages, and custom EventLab tracks. Those are build and decoration objects, not evidence that a saved Journal photo can be mounted as a wall item.
| Content | Confirmed use | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Saved Journal photos | Preserve views of murals, landmarks, and notable places as part of your journey record. | That the image becomes a physical poster, plaque, or prop. |
| Discover Japan stamps | Track exploration progress and unlock Barn Find Rumors, homes, and the Estate. | That a stamp itself is a decorative object. |
| Vehicles | Display and customize several cars in each home’s garage. | That a garage display proves Journal collectibles are placeable. |
| Estate and EventLab props | Decorate buildable spaces and custom tracks with available objects. | That every landmark or photo is available as a prop. |
If a future update adds a “place in house,” “showcase,” or similar command for a Journal item, that in-game control would be the confirmation to use. Without such a command, the safe interpretation is that the Journal is a digital record and the garage is a vehicle display system.
What the Treasure Map does—and does not do
The official Xbox Store description for the Treasure Map says it reveals locations for five named categories:
Rank #4
- DELUXE EDITION — Includes the full game, Welcome Pack, and Car Pass, delivering 30 additional cars to your garage with one new car released each week.
- DISCOVER JAPAN — Explore Horizon’s largest map ever, set in Japan and packed with dramatic verticality, diverse biomes, and spectacular open‑road driving routes.
- CRUISE ICONIC LOCATIONS — Drive through Tokyo’s city streets, suburbs, docks, and industrial districts in the most expansive urban environment in Horizon history.
- DRIVE 550+ REAL‑WORLD CARS — Collect and customize over 550 licensed vehicles with body kits, Forza Aero, window liveries, and enhanced steering animations.
- BUILD YOUR ESTATE — Purchase beautiful homes across Japan and customize garages to showcase your growing car collection as you rise through the Horizon Festival.
- Bonus Boards
- Barn Finds
- Regional Mascots
- Treasure Chests
- Treasure Cars
Some collectibles become available only after gameplay unlocks them. The listing also explicitly excludes seasonal collectibles in the Festival Playlist.
It does not say that the add-on locates Collection Journal mementos, saved photos, landmarks, or stamps. Consequently, buying or activating the Treasure Map is not a confirmed solution for finding “permanent souvenirs.” It can help with the five categories above once they are available, but it should not be presented as a Journal locator.

Journal record versus hidden-item pickup
A Journal entry is associated with your personal record of the trip, especially a saved photograph or a discovery logged during exploration. A hidden-item pickup normally has a dedicated object, pickup notification, or category-specific counter. The official descriptions do not define every notification, so use the category shown in your current UI rather than relying on the visual appearance of the location.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Exploration progress versus one-time completion
Stamp progress is cumulative: several different activities can advance Discover Japan. A one-time board, chest, mascot, or car is a discrete world collectible. Completing one does not necessarily mean you have advanced the next stamp by the same amount, and advancing a stamp does not prove that every hidden item in the region has been collected.

Photo versus display object
Saving a photo preserves the view in the Journal. Displaying a vehicle or prop changes a physical space. These are separate outcomes even when they involve the same location—for example, photographing a landmark does not automatically create a landmark model for the Estate.
Troubleshooting when progress or a memento seems missing
The stamp bar did not move
- Reopen the Discover Japan tracker and verify that the activity is one of the recognized categories.
- Complete the activity fully; leaving a race, tour, or delivery job early may not count.
- Check whether the action produced a Journal save or only a visual discovery.
- Try a different documented activity, such as a Street Race, Touge Race, day tour, or delivery job, and recheck the tracker.
A landmark photo is not visible as a decoration
That behavior is consistent with the documented separation between Journal recordkeeping and house decoration. Confirm that the photo was saved, then look for it in the Journal or Photo system rather than in the Estate prop browser.
A collectible is not shown on the Treasure Map
Compare its category with the five listed Treasure Map categories. Journal photos, landmarks, stamps, and seasonal Festival Playlist collectibles are not stated as covered by the add-on. Also remember that some listed collectibles require a gameplay unlock before their locations are revealed.
You cannot find an exact coordinate
No official source currently establishes a complete coordinate list for a “Permanent Souvenirs” category. Search by the confirmed discovery type—mural, landmark, mascot, Barn Find, or another named collectible—and use the game’s own map markers when they appear.
What is confirmed, and what remains unconfirmed
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Is “Permanent Souvenirs” an official feature name? | Not established. Collection Journal is the documented term. |
| How many Discover Japan stamps are there? | Seven. |
| What does the first stamp do? | It introduces the Estate. |
| What else can stamps unlock? | Barn Find Rumors and homes to buy around Japan. |
| How many player houses are documented? | Eight, each with fast travel, customization, and a garage. |
| Can Journal photos be placed in a home? | Not confirmed by the official descriptions. |
| Does the Treasure Map locate Journal mementos? | Not stated; its listed coverage is five other collectible categories. |
| Are exact souvenir coordinates published? | Not for a standalone Permanent Souvenirs category. |
Design Director Torben Ellert described the Journal as “a visual representation of your journey” and “a collection of your own specific experiences in Japan.” Those descriptions support treating it as a personal travel record first, rather than assuming it is a second home-decoration inventory.
A practical completion checklist
- Open the Collection Journal or Discover Japan tracker and note the current stamp.
- Explore unfamiliar roads and record murals, landmarks, and other notable spots.
- Save photos instead of merely entering Photo Mode and exiting.
- Complete a mixture of races, tours, car activities, mascot discoveries, and Raku-Raku deliveries.
- Claim Barn Find Rumors and homes when stamps unlock them.
- Use the Estate and house garages for vehicles and confirmed build props.
- Use the Treasure Map only for Bonus Boards, Barn Finds, Regional Mascots, Treasure Chests, and Treasure Cars, remembering its Festival Playlist exclusion.
- Do not treat an unlisted photo, stamp, or landmark as a confirmed physical souvenir until the game supplies a dedicated placement option.
The most accurate way to understand “permanent souvenirs” today is therefore: permanent memories in the Collection Journal, progression represented by seven Discover Japan stamps, and separate physical displays for cars and build props. Exact item names, coordinates, and Journal-to-house placement controls would require explicit support from the game’s current UI or a later official announcement.
