Forza Horizon 6 requires a 64-bit Windows 10 22H2 (build 19045) or newer PC, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, broadband internet, 167 GB of free space and an SSD. The published minimum graphics options are a GeForce GTX 1650, Radeon RX 6500 XT or Intel Arc A380, paired with an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600. The recommended tier raises that to a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, Radeon RX 6700 XT or Intel Arc A580 with an Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X.
Those are compatibility tiers, not promises of a particular resolution, quality preset or frame rate. Use the game’s live previews, memory readout and built-in benchmark to measure how your own combination of resolution, ray tracing and upscaling behaves.

Forza Horizon 6 PC requirements at a glance
Steam’s 2026 listing gives one minimum tier and one recommended tier. Both tiers require the same operating-system, memory, graphics API, internet, storage and drive conditions; the processor and graphics-card models are what change.

A component at the minimum tier is the publisher’s stated floor for that category. The recommended models are the higher listed configuration, not a measured guarantee. Steam does not attach a target resolution, graphics preset or frame rate to either row, so neither row should be advertised as a guaranteed 60 frames per second or as a named visual preset.

What the shared requirements mean in practice
Windows version and 64-bit support
Check that Windows reports version 22H2 or later and build 19045 or later. The game requires a 64-bit operating system and 64-bit processor; a 32-bit Windows installation cannot satisfy the listing even if the processor model appears in the table. Windows 10 and Windows 11 are supported according to Playground Games’ May 22, 2026 update.
16 GB of RAM
Both tiers list 16 GB of system memory. That figure is a requirement, not a recommendation to close every background application or a measured amount consumed by the game. If other software is using substantial memory, the game’s real-time system-memory display can show whether your workload is approaching the available total.
DirectX 12 and the GPU
DirectX 12 is required. Meeting the model name alone is not enough if the card belongs to an unsupported architecture. Playground Games says NVIDIA Turing is the minimum supported NVIDIA architecture; AMD Polaris, Vega and older architectures will not work. This architecture rule is separate from the Steam model table and can explain why an apparently similar older card fails.

Reserve 167 GB of free space on a solid-state drive before installing. The listing specifies an SSD, so an available hard-disk-drive capacity of 167 GB does not satisfy the published storage requirement. Check your case or laptop’s drive form factor and interface before buying an upgrade. The available information does not establish that changing to a faster SSD increases frame rate; the SSD is a stated installation requirement.

Broadband internet
A broadband connection is part of both tiers. The listing does not give a minimum download speed, latency target or data allowance, so those cannot be converted into a more precise network specification.
How the recommended tier should guide your decision
The recommended row is best treated as extra headroom for heavier settings, higher resolutions or demanding combinations such as ray tracing and upscaling. It is not a promise that every recommended system will produce the same result: processor cooling, driver version, background work, display resolution and the selected graphics options all change the outcome.
Compare your computer category by category rather than averaging model names. A system with a recommended graphics card but a minimum processor is not the same configuration as the full recommended row, and the reverse is also true. The shared 16 GB memory, DirectX 12, SSD, 167 GB and operating-system requirements still apply whichever processor or GPU you use.
Performance features available on PC
Playground Games lists uncapped frame rates, 4K HDR output, ultrawide monitor resolutions and, on compatible GPUs, ray-traced reflections and ray-traced global illumination. These are support claims from the developer, not independent performance measurements.

Upscaling, anti-aliasing and frame generation

Upscaling and frame generation are separate controls. Upscaling changes the internal render resolution; frame generation inserts generated frames between traditionally rendered frames. Evaluate smoothness, image clarity and input response together instead of judging a displayed FPS number alone.
Ray tracing
Ray-traced reflections and global illumination can add substantial rendering work. If enabling them causes the benchmark to miss your target, first test a lower ray-tracing level or disable the feature, then reassess resolution and upscaling. Do not assume a recommended GPU guarantees a particular ray-tracing frame rate; no such target is published.
A repeatable in-game settings workflow
The PC version lets you change render settings without restarting, provides live previews for many graphics options, shows real-time video-memory and system-memory usage, and includes a benchmark mode. Use those tools to build a result for your own PC rather than copying an unverified preset.
- Record a baseline. Open the PC graphics or video settings, note your display resolution and current options, and run the built-in benchmark before changing anything. Record the benchmark result and observe video-memory and system-memory use.
- Choose the display target. Set the resolution you actually intend to play at, including an ultrawide mode if that is your monitor. Keep the frame-rate cap uncapped during diagnosis so the benchmark can reveal the system’s limit; add a cap later if you prefer steadier pacing or lower power use.
- Change one group at a time. Start with the most expensive feature you intend to use: ray-traced reflections or global illumination. Use the live preview, apply the change without restarting and watch memory usage. Avoid changing several unrelated options simultaneously because you will not know which one caused a gain or loss.
- Test native and upscaled rendering. Compare native resolution with the supported DLSS, FSR or XeSS mode available for your GPU. Check fine details, vegetation, distant geometry and motion for artifacts, not just the reported frame rate.
- Evaluate frame generation separately. If your GPU supports DLSS Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation, compare it after you have a stable base render rate. Look for input response and pacing as well as the displayed FPS.
- Run the benchmark after each meaningful change. Use the same resolution, scene and options for each pass. Keep settings that improve the result without unacceptable image-quality or latency trade-offs.
- Verify a real driving session. The benchmark is repeatable, but a longer session can expose shader compilation, thermal throttling, streaming or memory behavior that a short run misses. Recheck the memory displays while driving in the areas where you notice stutter.
This procedure measures your particular CPU, GPU, driver, cooling and background-task combination. It is not a substitute for an official preset or a guarantee that another computer with the same model names will behave identically.

Diagnosing low frame rates, stutter and crashes
Confirm that the system is actually supported
Begin with the operating-system build, 64-bit status, DirectX 12 support, 16 GB of RAM, SSD capacity and the exact CPU/GPU model. Then check the GPU architecture. Playground Games says NVIDIA Turing is the minimum supported NVIDIA architecture and that AMD Polaris, Vega and older architectures do not work. A card below the published floor or an unsupported operating system can also account for crashes.
Update the graphics driver
Playground Games reported on May 22, 2026 that it was aware of PC frame-rate issues on AMD graphics cards and was working on fixes. Its advice at that time was to update graphics drivers. That status is date-specific; consult the latest official game update notes when troubleshooting because a later patch may change the situation.
Use the memory readouts to find pressure
If video-memory use approaches the card’s available capacity, reduce resolution, texture-related options or ray tracing and rerun the benchmark. If system-memory use is high, close unnecessary background tasks and repeat the test. The game exposes both values so you can identify pressure instead of guessing.

Playground Games states that performance varies with your setup, background tasks, graphics settings, ray tracing and upscaling technologies. The exact wording is: “Performance will vary based on your setup, background tasks, graphics settings, and the use of ray tracing or upscaling technologies.” Treat a result that changes after closing a background application as a workload difference, not as a change in the published requirements.

When a setting change does not help
If lowering a setting produces little improvement, the limiting factor may be the CPU, a frame-rate cap, memory pressure elsewhere, thermal throttling or a driver issue rather than that option. Return to the baseline, change one variable, and use the benchmark to isolate the bottleneck. Do not infer a universal FPS result from a single test run.
Controllers, wheels and Steam Deck
Steering wheels compatible with Forza Horizon 5 are supported in Forza Horizon 6, and controller support is retained from the previous game. These are optional input devices; neither is required to meet the PC hardware specifications.
Playground Games’ May 22, 2026 update lists Windows 10/11 and Steam Deck as supported platforms. Linux is not supported. Steam Deck support does not change the Windows PC requirements table, so treat it as a platform-support statement rather than evidence that every minimum-tier desktop configuration will perform the same way.

Upgrade only the constraint that your checks identify. If the computer lacks an SSD or 167 GB of free SSD space, storage is a prerequisite. If the GPU is below the minimum or belongs to an unsupported architecture, a graphics-card change is the relevant category; if the processor is below the listed floor, a CPU/platform change may be necessary. If your hardware already meets the recommended row, tune resolution, ray tracing and upscaling with the benchmark before buying anything.
Product-specific upgrade advice requires the exact PC model, power supply, cooling, case clearance and display target. The published requirements alone cannot identify a safe replacement part or predict the performance gain from one.
Bottom line
Forza Horizon 6’s published PC floor is a 64-bit Windows 10 22H2-or-newer system with 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, broadband, 167 GB of SSD space and the listed i5-8400/Ryzen 5 1600 plus GTX 1650/RX 6500 XT/Arc A380 class hardware. The recommended row moves to the i5-12400F/Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX 3060 Ti/RX 6700 XT/Arc A580 class. Because no resolution or FPS target is attached to either row, use the in-game previews, memory meters and benchmark to establish a settings combination your own machine can sustain.
