Start by following the Festival wristband progression, but do not treat racing as the only route forward. Forza Horizon 6 also advances your rank when you explore Japan and record discoveries in the Collection Journal. Credits come from varied activities, and your garage grows through purchases, exploration-linked opportunities, Barn Finds, Treasure Cars, Car Meets and other rewards. There is no officially established “best” starter car or universally fastest beginner credit method, so the sensible approach is to match a car and activity to the event you want to play.
This guide explains the systems a new or returning player needs first: what to do after starting, how rank progression works, where credits come from, how cars enter the garage, what the optional editions add and which accessibility tools are available.

What should I do first in Forza Horizon 6?
- Begin the Festival progression. The wristband system remains the campaign’s main rank structure. As your Festival rank rises, better cars and higher-caliber races become available.
- Complete the early activities rather than waiting for a single “correct” car. Use the vehicles and events the game presents, then adjust difficulty, assists and car choice to your comfort.
- Explore between events. Points of interest, collectibles and other discoveries are recorded in the Collection Journal. Those records contribute to Festival rank and your broader progression in Japan.
- Spend credits only when a purchase solves a current problem. Buy a car that suits an event or driving style you actually want to use; do not assume an expensive or cover-featured car is mandatory.
- Return to the Journal regularly. Its stamps can reveal Barn Find clues and its discoveries provide another reason to travel away from the race route.
The game is set across Japanese environments that include Tokyo districts such as Shibuya Crossing, Ginko Avenue and Tokyo Tower, as well as rural and other regional areas. Treat the map as part of the progression system, not merely a backdrop.
How does Festival progression work?
Festival wristbands and rank
Festival wristbands are the main campaign rank system. Rising through the ranks unlocks better cars and more advanced races. The available material does not publish a complete numeric formula or exact rank thresholds, so any guide promising a precise fastest route is going beyond the established information.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The Collection Journal is a second progression route
The Collection Journal records discoveries such as points of interest and mementos. These entries generate progression toward your Horizon Festival rank and your general progression in Japan. Design Director Torben Ellert explained it this way in an Xbox Wire interview published January 22, 2026: “When you discover points of interest, that goes into your Journal, and it generates progression towards your rank in the Horizon Festival and your general progression in Japan.”
That means a player who enjoys sightseeing, finding collectibles or completing Journal entries is still moving the campaign forward. You do not have to win every available race before exploration becomes worthwhile.
A practical progression loop
- Choose an available Festival event and note the type of car it favors.
- Run the event with a car you can control comfortably.
- On the drive to your next activity, detour to nearby points of interest and collectibles.
- Check Journal stamps for new records or clues.
- Use the credits and unlocks from your activities to try a suitable car or event, then repeat the loop.
This is a flexible routine rather than a guaranteed optimal route. The official information does not establish exact thresholds, completion times or a fastest combination of races and discoveries.

How do I get more credits in Forza Horizon 6?
Activities that award credits
Playground Games describes credits as coming from varied activities, including winning races, delivering tofu and exploring the world. The evidence does not rank these activities by profit, and it does not establish a beginner credits-per-hour figure, an average time to a first purchase or a universally best credit farm.
| Activity | What is established | How to use it as a beginner |
|---|---|---|
| Race wins | Winning races can award credits. | Use events that match your current car and driving confidence. |
| Tofu deliveries | Tofu delivery is named as a credit-earning activity. | Try it when you want a break from conventional racing. |
| Exploration | Exploring the world can earn credits and advances Journal progression. | Combine travel with points of interest, collectibles and Journal stamps. |
| Other activities | The developer says credits come from varied activities without publishing a complete rate table. | Choose activities you enjoy instead of chasing an unverified hourly estimate. |
Estate spending is reversible
The Estate is a larger buildable area where you place build items using credits. The developer says you receive the credits back when you delete an item. That makes experimenting with the Estate less risky than a permanent purchase: you can test a layout, remove an item and recover the stated in-game cost.

Keep enough credits available for cars and other activities you want to try, but there is no published beginner budget that you must preserve. Decide purchases around your next intended event rather than an invented target balance.
Is VIP required for progression?
No. VIP Membership is optional paid content, not a requirement for Festival rank or ordinary progression. Official material lists a 2x credit boost to race rewards, three VIP-exclusive Forza Edition cars, a weekly bonus Super Wheelspin and other benefits. The 2x boost applies to the optional VIP package; it is not the baseline reward rate for every player.

How do I unlock more cars?
Official material describes approximately 550 cars at launch. That is an approximate launch figure, not a guaranteed live-roster total, because the garage can change with later additions. More importantly for a beginner, cars arrive through several different routes.
| Route | How it works | What to remember |
|---|---|---|
| Regular purchases | Buy cars through the normal in-game purchasing options. | Compare the car with the event and your preferred driving style before spending. |
| Aftermarket Cars | Exploration can surface cheaper Aftermarket Cars. | They are suggestions to try a machine in a relevant context, not mandatory upgrades. |
| Treasure Cars | Treasure Cars are another way to add vehicles. | Watch for exploration-linked opportunities rather than relying only on the showroom. |
| Barn Finds | Barn Find clues are given as Journal stamps are collected. | Keep checking the Journal as you discover points of interest and other records. |
| Forza Edition cars | Modified Forza Edition cars are available through the game’s acquisition systems; VIP also lists three VIP-exclusive examples. | Special editions are optional choices, not a universal beginner requirement. |
| Car Meets | At a Car Meet, you can inspect displayed cars and purchase a stock version of a displayed car through the Autoshow. | Use Meets to see cars and designs before deciding whether the stock version fits your plans. |
Why exploration can lead to a cheaper car
Aftermarket Cars are deliberately placed in the open world. Ellert described this as a subtle suggestion to “try this car out, take this car to this event,” with the cars placed in the world and made cheaper to purchase. The intent is to connect a discovery with an event, not to declare that every surfaced car is the strongest option.

There is no official best starter car
The available official material does not compare beginner-car performance across events or identify one universally best starter. A sensible selection uses three questions:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- What event are you entering? A car suitable for one discipline may be an awkward choice elsewhere.
- How do you like to drive? Stable handling, acceleration, braking feel and the amount of assistance you use can matter more than headline price.
- Do you already own it? A serviceable car in your garage may be the better immediate choice than spending credits on a small theoretical advantage.
Try cars surfaced for relevant events, use Car Meets to inspect designs, and change vehicles when the event or your driving preference changes. Do not treat a premium-priced, cover-featured or VIP car as a mandatory purchase.
How should I use exploration, houses and Car Meets?
Exploration and collectibles
Collectibles are placed around areas of Japan and grant a small reward. The exact reward value is not stated, so think of them as incremental benefits attached to exploration rather than a guaranteed superior earning method. Discoveries also help fill the Journal and contribute to progression.
Player houses
The world includes eight player houses. They act as fast-travel points and customization spaces. They are useful conveniences when unlocked, but the available information does not make every house a required early objective.
The Estate
The Estate is a larger buildable area for placing items with credits. Because deleting an item returns its credits, you can experiment with layouts without treating the first arrangement as permanent.

Car Meet locations
Three permanent Car Meet locations are described: the Festival, the Okuibuki parking area and Daikoku. Meets are social spaces where you can inspect cars and designs and buy a stock version of a displayed car through the Autoshow. They are optional world activities, not prerequisites for Festival rank.
Which edition or platform should a beginner choose?
The launch announcement identified Xbox Series X|S and PC versions, with Premium Edition Early Access beginning May 15, 2026 and general launch on May 19, 2026. The official FAQ says Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members can play on May 19 and that Premium Upgrade provides early access. A PlayStation 5 release was described as coming later in 2026; check the current official listing before assuming availability, timing or format.
| Option | Established contents or access | Decision point |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Base-game edition; the reviewed material does not state a complete current contents or price list. | Suitable when you want the game without optional add-ons. |
| Deluxe | Includes the Car Pass. | Consider it if the additional cars are valuable to you. |
| Premium | Includes the Car Pass, VIP and additional content; Premium Edition Early Access was announced for May 15, 2026. | Useful only if early access and optional extras justify the higher cost. |
| Premium Upgrade | Provides early access and includes VIP and additional content; confirm the current package contents before buying. | Relevant to someone who already has a qualifying base-game or Game Pass route. |
Car Pass cars are described as a one-time free addition to the garage, saving the in-game credits those cars would otherwise cost. Edition contents, local prices, platform availability and whether a listing is a physical disc or digital code can change, so verify the current official page before purchase. No add-on is needed to understand or begin the core progression systems.

Forza says Horizon 6 carries forward accessibility features from earlier Horizon games, including American Sign Language and British Sign Language. It also adds Car Proximity Radar, AutoDrive and a customizable High Contrast mode.
- Car Proximity Radar: helps communicate nearby vehicles while you drive.
- AutoDrive: can handle driving when you want to focus on another part of the experience.
- High Contrast: lets you customize visual contrast for clearer interface and world elements.
- ASL and BSL: sign-language support is included among the carried-forward features.
Open the current in-game accessibility settings to review the exact controls and customize them for your needs. Feature labels and availability can vary by platform or later updates, so use the live settings menu rather than relying on a remembered button path.

A low-stress first-session checklist
- Play the opening Festival activities and learn which wristband or rank objectives are currently available.
- Choose a race or activity you can complete consistently instead of buying a car before you know what you enjoy.
- Drive through nearby points of interest and collectibles so the Journal begins recording discoveries.
- Read new Journal stamps for Barn Find clues and other exploration leads.
- Try an Aftermarket Car if one appears near an event you intend to run, checking its price before committing credits.
- Visit a Car Meet when you want to inspect cars and designs in a social setting.
- Use houses as they become available for fast travel and customization, but do not delay Festival activities waiting for every optional facility.
- Experiment with the Estate knowing that deleting a build item returns its stated credit cost.
- Review accessibility options before increasing difficulty or removing driving assists.
- Reassess your garage after each rank increase: the best next car is the one that fits your next event and your control preferences.
Common beginner mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming only race wins count
Race wins are one credit source, but exploration and Journal discoveries also contribute to progression. Alternate activities when you want a change of pace.
Chasing an unverified credit-per-hour number
No official figure establishes a fastest beginner farm, average first-purchase time or universal hourly rate. Choose activities you can enjoy and complete reliably rather than trusting an unsupported estimate.
Buying a car because it is expensive
Price does not establish suitability for your event or driving style. Use the event, handling preference and whether you already own a workable car as your decision criteria.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Treating VIP or Premium as required
VIP’s 2x race-reward boost and exclusive cars are optional paid benefits. Premium content and Early Access can be worthwhile for some buyers, but neither is presented as necessary for Festival progression.
Ignoring the Journal
Journal records do more than catalogue sightseeing. They generate progression and can provide Barn Find clues, so review stamps after exploration.
Assuming launch information is a permanent roster or platform promise
The approximately 550-car figure is a launch estimate, and the PlayStation 5 timing was described as later in 2026. Check current official listings and in-game content if you are playing after launch.
Bottom line for a new player
Follow the Festival wristbands, but keep moving through Japan. Race when you want competition, explore when you want discovery, and let the Collection Journal turn both into progression. Earn credits from the activities you enjoy, spend them on cars that suit a specific event or driving style, and use the Estate’s refundable building spend to experiment. The game offers many acquisition routes and optional paid extras, but neither a single starter car nor a Premium purchase is required to begin building a garage and advancing through the Festival.
