That report does not establish that the wider Disney–Fortnite collaboration is delayed or canceled, and it gives no revised release date.
What was delayed—and what wasn’t announced
The reported delay concerns an upcoming, unannounced game within the Disney–Epic relationship. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the project, reported the delay and the direction to use more AI tools; the account was relayed through a Yahoo Finance mirror. Epic communications director Jake Jones told Bloomberg: “We’re embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do.”

This is reporting about a specific project, not an official announcement that the entire Disney–Fortnite collaboration has been postponed. The available information does not identify the game, explain its planned gameplay, or provide a new release window. It also does not establish that AI will make the game, or that Epic’s approach is exclusively AI-driven. “More AI tools” and “AI-accelerated development” are the reported direction; “AI-first” would overstate what has been confirmed.

Epic and Disney’s February 2024 announcement described a broad ambition: an “all-new open, persistent and social universe” connected to Fortnite. The companies said it would bring together stories and characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and other properties, and that Unreal Engine would power the environment. Disney also said it would invest $1.5 billion to acquire an equity stake in Epic Games alongside the multiyear project.

That announcement set out a partnership and a shared universe; it did not name a single game or set a release date for one. The October report, by contrast, concerns one game described as part of that collaboration. Keeping those scopes separate matters: a reported schedule change for an unnamed title cannot, by itself, establish a change to every project or creator initiative connected to the partnership.
| Question | Broader Disney–Epic partnership | Game in the October report |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | A planned open, persistent, social universe connected to Fortnite | One upcoming, unannounced game within the relationship |
| Source status | Official 2024 announcement by Epic and Disney | Bloomberg report, attributed to people familiar with the project and carried by Yahoo Finance |
| Schedule | No single game release date was set in the 2024 announcement | Reported as delayed; no revised date is established |
| AI evidence | Epic has separately described an AI feature for Fortnite creators | Bloomberg reported developers were told to use more AI tools; specific tools and production details are not established |
Does Epic’s AI direction explain the delay?
Not on the evidence available. Bloomberg reported both the delay and the request for more AI use, but the report does not establish that AI adoption caused the schedule change. It also does not name the tools, say how they will be used, or describe a final production method.
Epic’s March 24, 2026 employee memo is relevant context, but it is not an explanation of this project’s schedule. In that memo, Epic said the layoffs it announced were not related to AI: “Since it’s a thing now, I should note that the layoffs aren’t related to AI.” The company described reduced Fortnite engagement beginning in 2025, spending exceeding revenue, and broader industry challenges, while identifying Fortnite experiences and developer tools as priorities. That statement addressed the March layoffs; it neither confirms nor refutes Bloomberg’s later account of the game’s development direction.

Other Disney activity in Fortnite continued in 2026
Disney announced in June 2026 that The Simpsons would join Fortnite’s IP Partner Program, with an official toolkit for Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) planned for later in the year. That is a creator-program announcement, not a schedule update for the unannounced game.
Disney also reported that nearly 8 million players entered community-built Star Wars islands during the first 72 hours after the Star Wars toolkit launched. The company reported 6.53 million plays for Galactic Siege and 3.37 million for Escape Vader in their first six days. These are Disney’s figures, not independently verified measurements. They show that creator activity continued; they do not determine the delayed game’s status or release timing.

In April 2026, Epic described Conversations as an experimental feature for AI-powered Fortnite characters. At that time, Epic said islands using Conversations could not yet be published. The company said Google Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite processed audio inputs and generated text, while ElevenLabs converted responses to speech.

Those details concern a creator-facing Fortnite feature. They are not evidence that the reported Disney game uses Conversations, Gemini, ElevenLabs, or the same systems. Treating the public feature as a window into the game’s production would go beyond what either account establishes.
What players can conclude now
The narrow conclusion is that Bloomberg reported a delay for one unnamed Disney-related game and a request for more AI use by its developers. The available information does not establish cancellation, a revised release date, the reason for the delay, or which AI tools—if any—will be used in the finished title. Disney’s continuing Fortnite creator initiatives and Epic’s experimental AI feature are separate developments, not confirmation of the game’s schedule or production plan.
