Epic’s October 1 announcement also confirms the event across Battle Royale, Horde Rush and Reload, with new weapons, cursed gameplay modifiers and horror collaborations arriving throughout October.
How Freddy Krueger appears in Fortnitemares
Freddy is an in-game opponent at Freaky Fields or the new Nightmare Neighborhood POI. Defeating him awards Freddy’s Nightmare, which lets its user teleport into range and slash an opponent. This is a gameplay reward, distinct from the Freddy Krueger outfit and other cosmetics sold in the Item Shop. Epic’s event announcement describes the encounter and item.

Modes, weapons and cursed modifiers
Epic says Fortnitemares spans Battle Royale, Horde Rush and Reload. Horde Rush returns as a limited-time mode, and an updated Nitemare Island is scheduled to arrive in Reload on October 8, according to Epic’s Communities post.

Cursed cartridge Overrides
Epic says cursed cartridge Overrides can grant one of several effects: invisibility while sprinting, increased damage at low health, or a disguise that makes the squad look like Halloween props. The announcement does not attach individual effects to specific Override names.

Confirmed October collaborations
Epic’s October 1 announcement names Five Nights at Freddy’s, Hazbin Hotel, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Beetlejuice and Obsession among the collaborations bringing new characters during October. It also says outfits and accessories from the following collaborations will arrive throughout the month:
- A Nightmare on Elm Street
- Black Clover
- Hollow Knight
- 99 Nights in the Forest
- Hazbin Hotel
- The Purge
- Obsession
- Slender Man

Epic has not assigned an individual release date to each collaboration in that announcement. Treat “throughout October” as the available timing, rather than assuming a specific shop date.

Freddy Krueger cosmetics and shop prices
The gameplay encounter does not grant the outfit bundle. At the time of checking on October 3, 2026, the Fortnite Item Shop displayed these A Nightmare on Elm Street listings; Epic’s offer page separately confirms the bundle listing. Prices and availability can change, so check the live shop before deciding what to buy.

Can a gift card pay for the cosmetics?
Yes. A Fortnite gift card or V-Bucks gift card can fund V-Bucks used for cosmetics. Epic says V-Bucks can be used to buy Outfits, Pickaxes, Emotes, Wraps and Passes. The card is a way to fund an account purchase; it is not physical Freddy merchandise. See Epic’s V-Bucks card information.
Epic announced in June 2025 that new Fortnite gift cards would be sold through retailers and could fund V-Bucks, Crew and Packs. The new cards are replacing V-Bucks cards over time, with rollout varying by region. Before buying, check the country, card type and platform, as well as the retailer’s current listing. Epic says some cards are restricted to accounts in the matching region and that Nintendo balances have different sharing limitations from supported shared-wallet platforms. See Epic’s gift-card announcement and card information.
