To buy them safely, use Epic Games’ official purchase or redemption flow, check that a card matches your region and the account you intend to use, and secure that account with multi-factor authentication (MFA). A Fortnite gift card is different from a legacy V-Bucks card: it adds Epic account balance that can fund a wider range of eligible purchases.
What can you buy with V-Bucks?
Epic says V-Bucks can be used to buy Fortnite Outfits, Pickaxes, Emotes, Wraps and Fortnite Passes. They are Fortnite currency, not a general-purpose balance for purchases outside the game. See Epic’s V-Bucks card and redemption information for its current description of eligible uses.

Fortnite gift card or V-Bucks card: what is the difference?
| Card type | What it adds or buys | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy V-Bucks card | V-Bucks for Fortnite, subject to the card and platform rules. | Confirm that the card is still sold in your region and that its territory matches your account. Epic says these cards may remain available at retailers during the gift-card transition. |
| Fortnite gift card | Epic account balance that can fund V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew and Packs, Epic Games Store games and add-ons, and creator content on fab.com. | Check the card’s regional availability and eligible uses before buying. Epic announced U.S. denominations of $15, $30, $50, $100, or a custom amount from $15 to $150 on June 4, 2025; those amounts are not a guarantee of current availability elsewhere or today. |
Epic announced the broader Fortnite gift card on June 4, 2025, with regional rollout planned over the months ahead. The announcement does not establish current stock at a particular retailer. Check Epic’s gift-card announcement and the retailer’s current listing for availability in your location.
How to buy and redeem a card safely
- Choose the right product. Decide whether you need V-Bucks specifically or Epic account balance for a broader set of purchases. Buy through Epic’s official routes or from a retailer confirmed for your region.
- Check the region and destination account. Epic says region-locked cards require a matching Epic or platform account region. Make sure you are signed in to the account that should receive the value before redeeming; V-Bucks cannot be transferred later.
- Redeem a Fortnite gift card. Scan its QR code and follow the link, or visit epicgames.com/redeem and apply the card value to your Epic account balance. An Epic account is required.
- Redeem a legacy V-Bucks card. Use the separate redemption flow on Epic’s V-Bucks card page, following the prompts for the device or platform where you play. An Epic account is required.
- Keep the card details private. Do not share a redemption code or account password with someone promising free currency or help. Use only Epic’s official redemption pages.
Check the platform rules before redeeming
Fortnite Shared Wallet support affects where card-derived V-Bucks can be spent. Epic lists PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile and cloud gaming services as supporting Shared Wallet. V-Bucks obtained by redeeming a V-Bucks card on a Nintendo device can only be used on Nintendo devices. Check Epic’s current platform terms if you play across devices, especially before applying a card on a console you do not usually use.

Know the card and balance limits
- V-Bucks do not transfer between accounts. Select the right account before redemption.
- Unused V-Bucks are not refundable under Epic’s stated policy. Do not buy more than you intend to use on that account.
- Territory matters. A region-flagged card is locked to that territory and requires a matching Epic or platform account region.
- Legacy card terms: Epic says the full face value is deducted at redemption and linked to one account for the selected device. The V-Bucks card page says there are no use fees or expiration date, but cards that are lost, stolen, destroyed or used without authorization will not be replaced. Verify the current terms on the card page before purchase.
- Disputed payments can affect the account. Epic says a chargeback can lead to removal of items associated with the disputed payment and prevent the related card from being used in Epic products. After two or more chargebacks, an account may be blocked from purchases across Epic products for up to one year. See Epic’s chargeback policy.
Protect your Epic account from V-Bucks scams
Epic recommends enabling MFA, using a password unique to your Epic account and keeping it secret. Epic’s account security guidance says, “Epic Games will never ask for your password.” With MFA enabled, you may be asked for a one-time security code on your first login after enabling it, when signing in on a new device, after 30 days without a sign-in, or after clearing browser cookies. Follow Epic’s account security guidance to secure your account.
Be wary of offers promising free V-Bucks or gift cards in exchange for credentials, survey completion, downloads or access through unofficial redemption pages. Epic has specifically warned about Creative islands that promise free V-Bucks gift cards; do not treat an in-game promise as official unless Epic verifies it. See Epic’s Support-A-Creator update.
