The artwork was also changed on Spotify and Apple Music. Epic said the image had been supplied by the artist and that it updated Fortnite’s version after the artist changed it.
What changed in Fortnite?
The cover in question belongs to Ironmouse’s “Meow” Jam Track, which arrived in Fortnite on 19 September 2026. It used artwork from her album Club Ironmouse, released in January 2026. Fans noticed a small white, star-shaped Gemini watermark in the image’s bottom-right corner. Because similar stars were part of the border design, the mark was easy to miss.

By 5 October, Fortnite had replaced the original cover with a version without the visible watermark. The same artwork change appeared on Spotify and Apple Music. Epic did not make a public announcement about the swap.

How the issue unfolded
- January 2026: Ironmouse’s album Club Ironmouse was released.
- 19 September 2026: “Meow” became available as a Fortnite Jam Track, using the album artwork.
- 2 October 2026: After a fan tagged Ironmouse, she said she had not known about the AI-related mark and that her team had demanded changes from those responsible.
- 3 October 2026: Label Trap Nation said it was working with Ironmouse to replace the artwork across platforms. It described the image as a non-final placeholder, said Ironmouse did not know AI had been used, and apologized.
- 5 October 2026: The watermark-free replacement appeared in Fortnite, Spotify and Apple Music.
Who supplied the art—and what Epic said
The reporting points to the album cover’s creation and distribution, rather than to Fortnite adding the watermark. Epic told Dexerto that the image came from the artist and was the same artwork used across demand-side platforms. The company said it changed the Fortnite art after the artist made the change elsewhere.

One artist who worked on the album said they used Procreate and Adobe Illustrator, but were not involved in designing the cover. The available reporting therefore does not establish who created the original cover or exactly how the Gemini watermark got into it. Trap Nation’s description of the cover as a placeholder and its apology indicate that the label was involved in addressing the problem, but do not by themselves settle who made the image.
Why the watermark drew attention
Ironmouse is known for opposing generative AI, so her reported lack of awareness of the watermark became part of the story. The episode also landed amid broader debate about AI in Fortnite: players had previously questioned a poster whose character appeared to have nine toes, and Epic later published a developer video showing AI experiments in the concept phase. Those controversies are related context, but they do not show that Epic generated this particular cover.

Reactions to Ironmouse’s response were divided, including criticism about consistency. But the key distinction is between the image’s provenance and the platform where it appeared: Epic said the cover came from the artist and was used across platforms, while the label said it was replacing the art and apologized. The replacement removed the visible watermark; the public statements summarized in the reporting do not identify the original cover designer or explain the precise process that introduced it.

What the update does—and does not—confirm
The visible cover has been changed across Fortnite, Spotify and Apple Music. That confirms a replacement, not a complete account of the image’s creation. Epic did not publicly announce the Fortnite change, and the statements reported so far do not establish who used Gemini, whether the entire cover was AI-generated, or whether AI was used only in part of the artwork.
