1. Open the live quest tracker
Before dropping from the Battle Bus, open the current quest, event, or Fortnitemares panel and read every line of the objective. Do not rely on the title alone. Look for the progress counter and verify that the objective is active rather than merely listed in a general event page. If the tracker says a different number or names different places, use those live requirements.
2. Confirm that the objective is available for this match
Start a match only while the objective is available in the tracker. If it is greyed out, locked, completed, expired, or missing from the active list, smashing pumpkins will not necessarily create progress. The guide’s instruction to start a match while the objective is available is important because event availability can be time-limited.
Take a screenshot of the wording and initial counter if you are already troubleshooting. That gives you a record of what the game actually asked for, rather than what a search result or social post remembered.

3. Travel to a qualifying location
For the objective described by the October 11 guide, land at Nightmare Neighborhood or Wonkeeland. The guide allows the five-pumpkin total to be split between the two locations, so you do not need to find all five in one place if the tracker accepts progress normally.
Use the name shown on the current map and tracker. Map labels, event decorations, and points of interest can change between seasons, and a nearby location with a similar name may not qualify. If the tracker has updated the qualifying locations, follow that update instead of the guide.
4. Smash the pumpkins
Interact with or attack the visible pumpkin objects using the normal actions available in the current match. The guide does not identify a required weapon, item, animation, or special control. The relevant distinction is that the pumpkin must be the in-game object associated with the quest, and the action must register as a smash.
After each attempt, look at the quest counter. A successful action should be reflected there eventually. If the counter moves from zero to one, keep going until it reaches five. Use a controlled test instead of guessing
When a quest appears stuck, test one variable at a time. First record the counter, then destroy one clearly visible pumpkin at a qualifying location while the tracker is open or easy to check. Note whether the object visibly breaks or disappears and whether the number changes. This gives you a clean result instead of mixing several locations, actions, and quest versions together.
If the first test produces no progress, repeat the same procedure at the other named location. The counter has not refreshed yet
Quest counters can take a moment to display a change. Wait briefly, open the tracker again, and check whether the number updated. If it remains unchanged after the match continues and several clearly qualifying pumpkins have been smashed, record the exact state rather than assuming a delayed update will eventually appear.
The event state changed between matches
