Fortitude converted borrowed Zcash into approximately $8.3 million of cash by drawing 5,790.4798 ZEC from a credit facility provided by its parent, Digital Currency Group (DCG), and selling the coins. The proceeds are earmarked for Zcash mining equipment, sites, construction and infrastructure—not reported as mining revenue.
How Fortitude turned borrowed Zcash into cash
The transaction uses a crypto-funded loan with a conventional-dollar repayment obligation. Under the amended DCG facility, DCG can advance ZEC instead of U.S. dollars. Fortitude receives the coins, sells them in one or more market transactions, and uses the resulting dollars for capital spending. The amount Fortitude owes is still denominated and repayable in U.S. dollars, with the ZEC valued when it is transferred under the facility terms.

Because the debt is fixed in dollars while the proceeds depend on selling a volatile asset, Fortitude remains exposed to execution and market risks. The cash realized can differ from the transfer value, and the company must ultimately repay dollars rather than return the same quantity of ZEC.

How the DCG facility expanded
Fortitude disclosed two stages of facility expansion in 2026. The earlier SEC-filed release said an amendment raised the aggregate commitment from $26 million to $50 million, with approximately $31 million of remaining borrowing capacity expected to be funded in ZEC. The October release then described a broader $70 million amended commitment intended in part to support a potential investment in next-generation equipment.

What the proceeds are intended to buy
9,000 Zcash ASIC miners
The named equipment order is for 9,000 BITMAIN Antminer Z15 Pro units. The Z15 Pro is an Equihash application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) designed for Zcash mining. Fortitude presented the order as an anchor for its expansion rather than as evidence that all units have already been installed or energized.
Sites, power and infrastructure
Fortitude said the proceeds would also support acquisitions of mining facilities, greenfield construction and infrastructure expansion. The company describes its operating model as vertically integrated, combining owned sites and power resources with in-house maintenance.

On its company website, Fortitude reports approximately 5.0 GSol/s of operating ZEC-mining hashrate and more than 60 megawatts across seven U.S. sites. Those figures describe the company’s stated operating footprint; they do not by themselves establish how much additional capacity the new spending will deliver.
The separate next-generation BITMAIN proposal
Fortitude also announced priority allocation for BITMAIN’s next-generation Zcash equipment, expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of 2027. The proposed transaction covers up to $100 million of equipment, but it is not binding.

Final specifications, pricing and a definitive purchase agreement still have to be completed. Until those conditions are met, the potential order does not guarantee a final dollar amount, shipment schedule or delivered hashrate. Fortitude’s chief executive, Jaime Leverton, said the company’s vision is to become “the largest vertically-integrated Zcash mining platform.” A BITMAIN executive described the relationship as combining its mining-technology and engineering capabilities with Fortitude’s power, infrastructure and operating resources.

Key risks behind the strategy
- ZEC price volatility: The value realized from selling the coins can move before or during liquidation, while the debt remains a dollar obligation.
- Market execution: Multiple sales may produce different prices and fees, so proceeds need not equal the draw’s stated transfer value.
- Equipment certainty: The next-generation commitment is non-binding, and specifications, pricing and delivery timing were not fixed in the October announcement.
- Construction and operating risk: Acquiring sites, building greenfield facilities and connecting power can take longer or cost more than planned.
- Financing conditions: Borrowing capacity and the planned additional draw depend on the facility and prevailing transaction conditions.
- Corporate transaction risk: Fortitude has said a proposed business combination with HeartSciences could provide public-market access, but the transaction may be delayed or may not be completed.
Why this financing structure matters
Crypto-funded borrowing lets Fortitude obtain dollars for expansion without first selling equity to raise the same cash, but it also separates the asset it receives from the currency it must repay. The company gets immediate exposure to equipment and infrastructure spending while retaining the risks of dollar debt, ZEC market movements and mining economics.

For readers assessing the expansion, the most important checkpoints are whether the 9,000-unit order is delivered and energized, whether additional ZEC advances occur under the enlarged facility, how much power and hashrate new sites add, and whether the proposed next-generation equipment agreement becomes definitive. Until those events occur, the announced figures describe an expansion plan and financing capacity, not a completed build-out.
