Fortitude has not completed a $100 million purchase of Zcash miners. On October 5, 2026, the company said its subsidiary signed a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) with BITMAIN for priority access to next-generation equipment that had not yet been commercially released. The potential commitment is up to $100 million; final specifications and pricing, and a later binding purchase agreement, are still required.
What does Fortitude’s BITMAIN equipment deal cover?
The LOI is between Fortitude Mining, LLC and BITMAIN Technologies Delaware Limited. It provides Fortitude a priority supply allocation for BITMAIN’s next-generation Zcash mining equipment. The equipment was not commercially released when the companies announced the LOI, so its model, specifications and final price were not yet established. Fortitude’s October 5 announcement calls the amount an indicative, non-binding commitment of up to $100 million.

The parties would need to enter a binding purchase agreement after BITMAIN releases final specifications and pricing. Fortitude said it could scale the amount up, subject to equipment availability and BITMAIN’s consent, or down after the official announcement. That flexibility does not turn the LOI into a firm order.

No completed $100 million purchase is established by the announcement. The figure is the ceiling of a non-binding commitment, contingent on a later agreement once the equipment’s specifications and price are known. Fortitude also described a refundable deposit equal to 20% of the commitment, or $20 million, but its release said it planned to draw that amount during the week, receive funding in ZEC from DCG, and liquidate the ZEC to make the deposit. Those were planned actions, not confirmation that the draw, funding or deposit had occurred.

When could the new equipment arrive?
Fortitude said it expected shipments to start in Q2 2027. This is the company’s forward-looking expectation, not a confirmed delivery date. The release did not provide a delivery schedule tied to individual units or a final binding order.
How does the LOI fit Fortitude’s existing mining operation?
Fortitude reported an operating base of approximately 4.7 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate and more than 60 MW of contracted power capacity across seven sites in South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas and New York. These are company-reported figures, not independent measures of the Zcash mining market. The Block’s October 6, 2026 coverage also reported the LOI and company operating and financing figures.

The new LOI is separate from Fortitude’s earlier order for 9,000 BITMAIN ANTMINER Z15 Pro units. Fortitude identifies the Z15 Pro as a purpose-built Equihash ASIC on its company website. It is the named model relevant to the earlier order; neither that order nor the available sources identify it as the unreleased next-generation equipment covered by this LOI. Until BITMAIN or Fortitude publishes specifications for the new equipment, there is no sound basis to compare its unit count or hashrate with the Z15 Pro order.
How is Fortitude financing the planned deposit?
Fortitude said it increased its credit-facility commitment from $50 million to $70 million and had approximately $42.7 million of borrowing capacity remaining after the amendment, subject to the facility’s terms. The company linked its planned $20 million draw to the refundable deposit and said it expected DCG to fund it in ZEC, which Fortitude planned to liquidate. The announcement does not establish that those planned transactions were completed.

What remains uncertain?
- Equipment identity and performance: BITMAIN had not commercially released the next-generation machines, and final model details and hashrate were not given.
- Final cost and quantity: specifications and pricing were pending, and the LOI’s indicative amount is not a final purchase price or confirmed unit count.
- Binding commitment and delivery: a later purchase agreement is required; Q2 2027 shipments are Fortitude’s expectation rather than a guaranteed schedule.
Fortitude CEO Jaime Leverton described the company’s aim as becoming “the largest vertically-integrated Zcash mining platform.” That is the company’s stated ambition, not an independently established ranking.
